From the NY Times article "I don't want it in my fishing grounds," said Mr. Martinson, 40, who docks his 74-foot boat, Libra, here at Yaquina Bay, about 90 miles southwest of Portland. "I don't want to be worried about driving around someone else's million-dollar buoy."
Mr Martinson, don't you realize we don't need your 74-footer named Libra. That kind has ruined the fishing grounds long since. Please read an article about that, here: http://www.ehponline.org/members/2004/112-5/focus.html
Btw, are you worried about the buoys ruining the fishing grounds or any potential damages you may make to the buoy? Where are the worst case liabilities?
Zhirinovsky is playing the clown, taking the crap in order to neutralize the really dangerous forces he allegedly represents. He is hot air, nothing more.
Some years ago the Russian torpedo VA-111 using supercavitating technology managed to reach speeds of more than 200 knots (370 km/h), multiple times the speed of any NATO torpedo. That, too, was a yellow shower.
Ok, the machine has two states, each of which can be three colors, and can perform any computation. But, how many states are needed for a machine with only two colors? That is, an "x,2 machine" where you should fill in the x.
The first correct proof of that here at Slashdot, will receive a congratulatory message, from G3ckoG33k!
We were 450 people working at my previous job. More than 400 used computers. The elevators of that building used more than 10 times the current of the computers.
Suddenly, I like Ballmer a little less. Possibly, the Linux foundation's www.patentscommon.org will harness those feelings; it is after all supported by HP, Ericsson, Nokia, Novell, IBM, RedHat, and... Microsoft... WTF?!
It will go open source, GPL, in two days (if as promised) and promises native gui on whatever platform you like! Ok, at least the widgets, if I got that right.
Still, I understand that that should have only marginally to do with the planning you now have. Whatever you do, please try to use a (an "an" for some parts of the world) "hybrid" between MacOS and Vista apps. That would make the large, global, user base easier to entice!!! While evaluating the proposals, remember that the less hassle in the transition from Windows/MacOS for the uninitiated to free operating systems the better!
"Linus has never supported the idea that the freedoms to help yourself and to cooperate with others are valuable."
Why do you lie?!
He wrote less than six months after the first published version (http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/Historic/old-versions/RELNOTES-0.12):

The Linux copyright will change: I've had a couple of requests to make it compatible with the GNU copyleft, removing the "you may not distribute it for money" condition. I agree. I propose that the copyright be changed so that it confirms to GNU - pending approval of the persons who have helped write code. I assume this is going to be no problem for anybody: If you have grievances ("I wrote that code assuming the copyright would stay the same") mail me. Otherwise The GNU copyleft takes effect as of the first of February. If you do not know the gist of the GNU copyright - read it."
That is proof alone that he supports "the idea that the freedoms to help yourself and to cooperate with others are valuable".
One thing that has struck me is that Joanthan Schwartz appears to be a friendly guy. Why would a company that big need friends?! Poor economy? Lack of direction and ideas? Or, even larger enemies? Or the threat from Linux? Hmmm... Wonder if a dinner with Linus Torvalds would have made a difference here.
Playing around with Google Earth I note these telescopes are on nearly a straight line! With two more, one in Somalia and one in Alaska one would have the telescopes in a near perfect cross! Please Somalia and the US, join!
nVidia or ATI/AMD? Wee, considering that ATI/AMD still doesn't have 3D support for their R600-series 3D cards (in Linux, of course), my short term bet is on nVidia.
I went on the inaugural non-stop KLM flight between Amsterdam and Manila some two years ago. They had some serious issues with their RedHat set-up back then, and I felt embarrassed as it was very much like the BSOD:s seen in many airports. Hope they managed to improve on stability.
While it has been said before, I believe 3D is the path. Please, please, provide support on par with Windows for any 3D graphics hardware, whether inside a computer or a console.
That is the path to success on the desktop. Today, I cannot even run OpenGL apps or any 3D apps on the lastest and greatest 3D graphics hardware from AMD (formerly ATI), the Radeon 2900XT. Why? There are no drivers. They have focused entirely on Windows, and consider Linux a niche market not worth the effort. Because of that, my family do not have a Linux only machine, which is also why I dual boot. The Radeon 2900XT support may well come to Linux, "when it is ready".
Please, take 3D support in Linux more seriously, whether you are hardware manufacturer or a software developer.

Was it Microsoft introducing 125 remarks on behalf of the US?
Why "unlikely sources"?! The Russians were the first in space after all.
My guess is that Ahmadinjad has never threatened USA.
when did he do that?!

Well, as Kasparov was born "Garri Weinstein" you might be correct. It might be that name the Russian's shun; history tells us so.

"50 Years Ago, Sputnik Was an Improvised Triumph"
You mean as opposed to the Apollo program which was a well thought out deliberate success?
Ha-ha-ha!
Sir, Mr Usmanov, I challenge you on a duel. Counterstrike 1.6. You may choose your mouse.
And if you win, please visit DreamHack Winter 07 as can't use my ticket then (http://web.dreamhack.se/index.php?page=what_is_dreamhack)
That's all fine and dandy, but where is the prnum64.asm? ;)

Two things.
First, why not?!
Second, it should have been "We don't point o MS and laugh in the typical 34 y.o. slashdottish way"
What about us libertines? Don't we have a place in this scheme too?

Why not make 64 of these on a single chip? 64W + some additional overhead shouldn't be bad.
