A similiar, already about 30 year old concept is already in testing in germany. The project is called "CargoCap" and initiated by the "Ruhr University".

Its 2010 and Nasa still utilizes technology which is basicly advanced WW2 technology. All still derived, and in a lot of cases badly derived from Wernher van Brauns efforts to bring man into space. Actually van Brauns concepts had been bold in comparison to what NASA did put up afther they exiled van Braun from working in the US space programm. Competing concepts, like "SpaceShipOne" from Scaled Composites, and NASA`s space Shuttle, have their root in technology at least 50 years old! Whereas NASA's Space-Shuttle is a lame excuese for "Dr Eugen Saenger" System http://www.phoxim.de/alexander_tomas_saenger/alexander_tomas_saenger.html (Sorry german only) Scaled Composites is doing well. Concerning the US Government putting money into NASA and outdated technology: You bet that everys governments nightmare is private corps beeing able to go to space. The DONT WANT US THERE. THEY want to control who is able to reach orbit and beyond.

    > All the billions of dollars going towards getting men to the Moon will be spent on next generation rocket tech and many other exciting fields.

This "billions of dollars" will again be spent on heaps of paperwork and then the project will be closed down.

Compared to what the NASA accomplished while "Wernher von Braun" did lead the US space programm there hadnt been any real improvements on manned space flight since. NASA is a Bureaucracy and therefore most of the money will support this bureaucracy and NOT R&D for (manned) spaceflights n exploration.

Have a look, its 2000 fucking 10 and NASA is basicly still using 1943 technology. The shuttle is a lame-ass attempt on creating a resuable vehicle. There had been better and far more advanced concepts around for resuable space-vehicles since the early 60's. See the work of Dr. Eugen Saenger for example.

Bottom Line: You rely on NASA for space exploration youre fucked.

So the first thing ive done with linux was compiling it and then using it as news and mail server. I am actually still doing this today.

The Sipura SIP/VOIP adapters allow crypting a call via TLS. You should be able to setup a crypted VOIP conversation using any of the SIP-Proxy based services like Vonage if both client devices are configured for a compatible encryption.

Other than this you can always tunnel voip calls through SSH or any other crypto tunnel (IPSEC) and then just dial the ip number of the other client within your network.

Right, ist no real problem to setup an SIP Proxy serving several thousand people, but it IS a problem to get a decent accounting/billing and customer support going! In addition to this you need all systems, including the PSTN Gateways and the in/outgoing T1 Lines redundant which adds quite some $$$ to the budget. And Asterisk is a system designed for beeing used as a company size PBX, NOT as large scale SIP-Proxy. If you really wanna start your own telco you better use the Sip Express Router (SER) from the "Frauenhofer Institut" germany. See http://wwww.ser.org .

But IMO a company has responsebilities that go beyond just "making money" like creating long term employments for within their home country. I mean, if a business owner/top manager makes like >= 1 million USD a year and can improve his income by, lets say 15% if he uses "offshoring" for certain jobs i think its not a moral thing to do. You should support your country unless its absolutely neccessary to take jobs offshore and you should not take jobs offshore just to add some money to your bank you dont "really need" anyways.

Still, off-shoring is commonly used to maximize profit and not for saving local jobs or reducing retail prices.

Origin made lots of my most favourite games starting with the early ultima series and ends with Ultima Online. Richard Garriot and Warren Spector are some of the best game designers ever in my opinion.

Maybe Garriot buys the company back and makes a new Epic RPG series for off and online playing.

Its unreasonable to put the burden onto ISPs. ISPs are not responsible for bad OS design and its unrealistic to demand port filtering from an ISP. Installing port filtering at a certain time could easily interupt paying customers services. Even if you send a notice to ALL customers. Instead of asking your ISPs for port filterung you should ask your OS supplier to secure his network protocols. It would be sufficient if Microsoft would just turn off access to service ports like 135-139 per default and one would require the user to explicitly enable access to this services. MS based products are messing up the internet for over 10 years now. Its MS responsebility to clean this mess up, not that of the ISPs. -- NetHead
