All relative to your income dude, if you earn six figures you won't blink at buying a $600 vid card every 12 months.
A fool?! ahh no hardly, just has a high income.
Of course it is sustainable, there will always be those that will buy the latest and greatest. $600 for a videocard is not a big deal, it's all relative to your income, lots of people will get one.
PC Gaming in a sorry state??? lol Pick any game genre and the best example of that genre will be on the PC.
Your arguments hold no water.
The gameplay is exactly the same as an old ZX Spectrum game called Jetpac (I believe it was by Ultimate)
You had to get grab the bits of the rocket and then drop in the fuel and then you could get in a go to next level, of course you had a jetpac on instead of the water pack. Exactly the same game with different graphics.
So not only are the graphics ripped of the gameplay is a complete rip off to.
I have to confess I thought the very same thing.
And to all the blokes who say "ahhh but I feel nauseous when I play FPS games to!" well I hate to break it to you but your big girls too. Mwuahahahahaa
The cost argument doesn't hold up, people will always be willing to pay top dollar to have the best gaming experience. I paid $700 for my last videocard and their are many out there that did likewise.
There is a demographic that have been playing computer games at home for 20 odd years and they have no problem forking out money for the best kit and the best kit will always be on the PC long before it makes it onto a console.
There are a few arguments that could be used for an argument about the demise of PC gaming, but the most popular one "Cost!" doesn't stand up.
I can buy a cutting edge console for $300
Consoles are hardly cutting edge they have always lagged behind the PC when it comes to technology and as long as people are willing to pay $1000 for a new videocard for their PC they always will.
The $300 argument is not enough to kill off the PC gaming scene, consoles would have to surpass what the PC can do on the latest videocards to kill off the PC gaming scene and it isn't gonna happen. Thats just a basic fact based on the cost point the consoles have to reach.
PC Games have been the biggest driver of technology that eventually ends up in the consoles.
When the PS3 comes out it will still not hold a candle to graphics that will be possible on the fastest PC of that time, the consoles will always be chasing behind the technology available on the PC.
I have been hearing the "PC is dead" cry for the last ten years and I confidently predict that people will still be yelling it when the PS5 or PS6 comes out.
There will always be those that will pay $1000 for a videocard so the PC will always be the cutting edge game platform.
I feel that if I have an album on vinyl I have every right to record it onto a cassete, from there I have every to burn it onto a CD, and from there I have every right to put it on my MP3 player, or any combination of the above.
I purchased the right to listen to that particular configuration of sound waves going into my ears, what machine or media delivers those sound waves is irrelevant and I certainly shouldn't have to repay everytime they bring out a new format or means of delivering it.
I download DRM coded tracks when that is the only way to get a track I want but the first thing I do is convert them to unprotected MP3's.
MS do not need to care about profit, they just want to increase their share in this sector.
It is a foregone conclusion the XBox2 will be a huge financial loss for MS.
The big question is will their rush to market get them a big slice of the pie or will people wait to see the other offerings leaving the XBox 2 cluttering up store shelves and fan boys living rooms.
Australia has a TAFE qualification called the ICDL (International Computer Driving License) as with the ECDL it is very basic covering things like making folders, storing files using explorer etc...
I have probably played most FPS games on both PC and Consoles and as much as many refuse to see it, Halo wasn't actually that great, if it was the first FPS I played I may have got excited like so many console FPS noobs did.
But I have been playing games for 25 years and it didn't do anything new or for that matter anything better than what was already out there.
*shakes head* I just don't see why so many XBox dudes seem to think it was the bees knees, in the whole FPS scheme of things it was a slightly above average effort with plenty of room for improvement, it is a shame they screwed up the great opportunity that Halo 2 could have been.
With a gig of 1066mhz ram and a 6800 ultra my PC will kick all three of the next gen consoles without breaking a sweat so I am sweet for a while, I'll just sit back and laugh at the pathetic "next gen" console specs.
Mwuhahahahahaaaa Mwuuuuuhahahahahahaa
Please the XBox was hardly an exercise in profit, and lets face it if they have up'd the spec of the XBox2 to anywhere even near that of a current PC they will lose money hand over fist with the XBox2 as well.
It is about buying market share, nothing more. If they get enough then they will squeeze the market, pay attention that is how Microsoft has always worked.
I work in an IT store and stare at new CRT and LCD screens most of the day, without a shadow of a doubt the CRT has a far clearer and crisper image. (to my eyes anyway)
I agree most people just get LCD because they think it is the latest technology so it must be the best. If someone comes in wanting to do serious graphic work I alway direct them to the top end CRT screens.

They should be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.
No time to read everything, I just downloaded it and went huh! I played this game on my spectrum when I was like ten!

Duh - the PC gaming industry is not trying to compete in that market. It is its own market.
Of course console games are immune from bugs! lol At least on the PC you can easily patch it.

It's gonna be designed so you can wear it like a backpack, kinda like the ghostbusters pack. Gonna be a great leg work out.
MS have rethought their console strategy and after a 360 degree turn are heading off in completely the same direction - lets try to buy market share.

Kudos to Hitachi, that was cool.
*shuffles off humming*
Get perpendicular... yeah baby
Yay give Halo 3 a gravity gun. woooohooooo And I agree, Halo and Halo 2 are very overrated.
I for one am looking forward to Zelda getting the realistic treatment.
The last Cell shaded effort, although fun to play was kiddied up too much for me. I prefered the ocarina over the windwalker.
Bring it on I say.
Damn he is a grumpy gamer, get over it Ron.
Of course M$ tried to buy Nintendo before and the Nintendo board told them "Thanks but NO Thanks!"

Haha your hilarious dude, pay attention. The tech edge slipping away from the US? they have yet to get the tech edge so how could it be slipping away.
