  1. Big Problem on Clock Watching For Improved Gameplay? · · Score: 1
This would be a fine feature if I could "set the time" in game to be on a different schedule from real life. The problem arises when the user has other more important obligations, such as school...that would prevent them from doing key things in the game. Or maybe they would miss school to do it, also a bad thing. God, I remember back when people would be paid to "babysit" Tamagotchi's......god what a dull job that must have been.

  2. Credit Card required? on Kazaa Backs Plan To Bill P2P Music Transfers · · Score: 2, Insightful
    From the article:
"Initially payments would be by credit card, but in the future downloads would be automatically detected and a charge added to the monthly internet service provider bill."

Those idiots over at Sharman realize that the majority of their userbase doesn't have credit cards don't they? Also, this is not something parents are likely to just hand over their card for. "Sure Jimmy, you can download all you want and charge it to my card, AND open us up to potential lawsuits!" Nope, I can't picture that one happening any time soon.

The one thing I would be interested in seeing is if by paying....if you were to download a copywrited file illegally, and then get busted...would they indemnify you?

Would they be held responsible because they would be profiting from the distribution of copywrited material?

  3. Thus ends the age of Kazaa on Kazaa Backs Plan To Bill P2P Music Transfers · · Score: 1
In the beginning, there was Napster, and all was good.
Then Napster got shut down and Kazaa rose like a brilliant phoenix from its ashes and all was good once more.
Then Kazaa decided to start charging its users, and the future became very bleak indeed.
Until a new savior approached, destined to bring free content to the masses without any spyware.

You see, I hope Kazaa realizes that while people may be using them because they are the easiest to use now....that the convenience is certainly NOT worth paying for. The only reason the service is used as much as it is is because it IS free.

Not to mention the fact that they don't exactly have a massive bandwidth bill to pay because of the nature of P2P.

I wonder if Kazaa Lite and its ilk will be able to bypass this. I also wonder if this will spur the masses to move to other P2P platforms, thus giving a much needed boost to the userbases of alternative P2P programs.

  4. Graphics, but so what? on Red Orchestra, UT2003 Mod, Released · · Score: 1
So this mod has pretty graphics thanks to the UT engine. BF1942 isn't that bad at all in terms of graphics. However, the big deal here is that right now I think the majority of gamers aren't AS concerned about graphics as they used to be. Everything looks really damn pretty. What they WANT however is some new and exciting gameplay, cuz everything seems to be clones. Thats why its important to make a mod thats DIFFERENT than other things. For example, the Pirates mod for bf1942. Jesus, if that's not one of the most creative things I've ever seen I don't know what is.

I'm not saying its possible to make.....but it would be interesting, especially if there were different servers with different "world rules". Such as a world where you could do whatever you wanted. I'd LOVE to do things in real life that I can't.....now I could in the game, and it would be realistic.

Also, it would be a game where you could mimick other games if you want. Want to play a "fantasy" MMORPG? Grab a computer in the Matrix game and load it up.

If you lived nearby, you wouldn't be nearly as shocked at the stupidity of this as I'm sure some of you are right now. This kind of stuff happens all the time there, it just doesn't normally happen with geek related things.

Actually, part of the appeal to Apple's target market is the exclusivity of their products. They are playing their small market share to their advantage by pushing their product as quality, uncommon, and unique.

I wish I could try this out. I really do. I have a brand new 3G 10GB iPod. Unfortunately I can't get it to work on windows, even after scouring the boards for hours. I run 98se and don't have firewire or USB2, just ol' USB1.1.

If Apple would just release some bloody DRIVERS to let my computer load the iPod as a mass storage device, I would have no problems at all. Unfortunately, since I can't get the iPod to mount as a drive, Ephpod isn't able to see it. Oh well, that's one potential customer gone......unless of course anybody has any idea what to do when my comp tries to add the new hardware and asks for drivers.

I really feel no sympathy for this company. Boohoo, you made a product which DOESN'T WORK and someone points that out, and now your stock price drops as people realize your product DOESN'T WORK AS CLAIMED.

So of course the appropriate response is to go back to the drawing board and create a new DRM product which does work. Oh, I'm sorry, my keyboard seems to be buggy today, that previous sentence had a typo, I MEANT to say they should just sue him under the DMCA.
