This would be a great way to do what all those song swappers are talking about - give money right to the artist. Imagine if iTunes or something let people donate DIRECTLY to the artists, instead of labels. Not just Metallica, but little bands too. Anyone who can put a recording online.
People would finally have to forget the rhetoric that poor artists don't see the money and admit No I *DON'T* intend to pay for this music.
Ha! Compare the distractions of kids in the back watching SpongeBob to kids in the back who are *NOT* watching SpongeBob.
You should get a tinge of fear every time you get close to a mini-van and realize how much the driver may be distracted in a car people can stand up and walk around in. I never used to until I owned one. I'm back to a station wagon now where people stay where you put them.
Having clearly marked opponents gives them something to aim for and exert their energy upon.
Now your talking like R. Daneel Olivaw from the Foundation series. That's how he re-designed human societies to get those people with such tendencies into a place where they can't do much harm.
Windriver systems is supplying the OS for the current mission. Lets see how long it takes them to work this one out:).. and the Microsoft links I thought of it as "Win Driver" systems. Some strange form of CE or something. That's it - rover's gone.
I know lots of people will get lost on the fact that they are decribing yet another thing in terms of computers or computation. Yes it's happened before, yes it will happen again. Telephones, Telegraph, Radio, Internet, etc.
People used to describe atoms in terms of billiard balls, and light in terms of waves or particles. While ultimately not correct, each new model allows you to discover more about the thing your investigating.
The models are useful until they break down. Even then they are sometimes more useful because you realize that there is something else going on and things are not quite waves, not quite particles, yet each is correct at times.
Hopefully this will allow a better understanding of how plants work, or even allow us to build better computers by translating the biological model into new computers. Ok, not talking sky-net here, but the sarcasm is a bit high.
The Indians/Russians/Chinese did it! They reprogrammed it and now it's transmitting in cantonese or something. Why launch your own rovers when you can take over someone elses? See what happens when you subcontract out your software designs?
The Gate suffix implies wrong doing. Bush and such are too in control of the media for this to get much attention. For instance there is no mention on CNN yet, and only 2 sites on news.google.com list the story.
I'm sure if it was the other way around it would be interupting your regularly scheduled program to inform you of it.
In jail? Come on. He just needs to ride it out until November. Assuming (HOPING!) Bush gets his ass out of office there will be a huge amount of Presidential Pardons issued. Seems to be standard practice.
Now THAT is something that need to be changed. They should be up for review or balanced out by congress.
Lets see, I was about 7 years old, playing in the field behind our house setting ants on fire with a magnifying glass. It was a dry summer and at some point the field itself caught fire. All the neighborhood came from all around to put out the fire with hoses and shovels and blankets. It burned about 2 acres before we finally got it all out.
Lots of angry people marched me to my door and told me to go inside and tell my mother what I had done. It turns out that even though she was sitting by the window, she was on the phone with the TV on and never noticed. When I tried to tell her she laughed and to this day doesn't believe it ever happened.
I *SO* hope my son ends up doing stuff like this when he gets older. At least this project produced some cool arguably scientific evidence. We only ended up with messes or trying to figure out good alibis.

Come on. Do you really think a guy who supports so many open source projects, and has his own online will to take care of those project would have a slashdot ID of 739458?
I really don't care what you say, it's even a bit funny, but quit pretending to be someone your not.
Are you serious? Abusing the Timeline is the ultimate cop-out. Forget good writing or stories. If the whole SHOW is based on an alternate reality the it deserves to day, because what's the point?
It's ok when it's interesting or thows up some ideas, but too many times it's used as a convenient way to fix things when you've painted yourself into a corner with the plot (or lack thereof).
I suppose it's better to kill it now then try and figure out how to transfer command to Captain Kirk a few years down the road.
The contest website doesn't mention a $1M prize, but from the "details" pdf, it looks like you can earn the $1M prize by solving 19 smaller problems, each with their own bounty. $30k for an "infeasable" problem seems a little low to me... I imagine the mob may pay more;-)
I'm guessing that's something I won't be seeing on the next season of the Sopranos.
"Hey Tony - some geek here says he wants to talk to you. Somethin 'bout a code?"
"What's he want?" "Says he's cracked the lip tic curve something er other. Says you'd be intrested"
We're starting to post the 20 or 10 year anniversaries to all sorts of computer history. At the rate computers advanced, these anniversaries are going to come up pretty quick. I hope we have enough time to be nostalgic for one before the next one comes along.:)
And the reason for Lack of games is lack of standard game development system. OpenGL is a good library, but to get a generic or high end 3D video card working smoothly on Linux is still something of a black art with drivers and X-Windows configurations from hell.
Redhat, Debian, Gentoo? Which distribution to support? What pacakage manager? The market is too small, and the support costs too high. I've worked on video games where we've had to evaluate these things.
Making a Bootable Linux Gaming CD was an option I've read before, but that just puts more of the setup and configuration steps into auto-detection where people can't get the full use of their hardware.
Linux is wonderful for porting apps with source, but porting binaries can be a pain compared with making a single windows EXE.
Rush Limbaugh reporting Live from Rehab. Then later on direct from Prison! I'm all for Compassionate Conservatism you know - it's time to learn his lesson.:o)
Umm, yes good point, but this "one-way" mission means the visitor is going to die there. If anything that wiped on the earth and made that guy the last living human, it would be a very short lived honor.

I'm so relieved.

He mentions that offshore outsourcing is hurting the technology sector.
Does anyone know if SCO is offshoring themselves?
Go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/
and find out.
Of course IP addresses are rather pointless without a date and time. I switched from a 208.*.*.* to a 66.*.*.* address just this morning.
Linus just happens to go on vacation in Australia and shortly there after a major lawsuit against SCO occurs. Coincidence?
"Self-appointed activists"
Like that's a bad thing. People who feel strongly enough to get off their but and try to make something happen, without even being paid to do it.
What other kind of activist is there? Democratically Elected Lobbyists?

We could guess what gets cracked after that.
I use Lynx. Lets see them get a pop-up on that.
They want to make the most realistic levels ever made.
