Evidence?!? They've caught them all! What more evidence do you need? Every time a criminal tries to steal from them, they snatch them off the streets and hurl them into PMITA prison.
Meh... I'm not really this bitter, just posting from work on a bad day...
Heehee... I'm still laughing at your grasp of statistics.
I suppose you based that "statistically... far better chance of being caught" on the number of people caught and prosecuted VERSUS the number of people that get away with it??? Do I need to point out the flaw in this reasoning???
I guess that means the number of DUIs prosecuted is 100%!!!
I would have to be part of the scam to be caught, so I'll assume the "you" thrown in there is directed at someone standing behind me.
Let's assume, for a moment, that these criminals are even in the United States. You know what, nevermind. I feel stupid even acting like that's the case... Good luck putting all those Russian mobsters in American jail for fraud.
you may think you're getting away with these types of crimes, but rest assured, it's only a matter of time before you are caught and placed in jail.
Puh-leeze... They'd have to legalize pot and kick all the "peaceful" felons out to make room for all the new prisoners. There are so many scams going from so many different countries, the Man will never crack down on even a small percentage of them.
However, don't let a little thing like reality keep you from believing that the Cops always get their man...
WAITED?!? I'm 29 and the wife is 30, and we're still not mature enough to handle it. Maybe we never will be...
I figure every extra day my child goes un-conceived, the better off that child will be when the time comes. I'm hoping that I will be changed, as opposed to the much-more-difficult "I am going to change" pledge...
You misunderstood my point. I'm saying that someone will take the time to figure out HOW it does damage, neutralize the damaging part, and then release it with their 1337 name all over it. Then "Everyone" knows to get the h075h17 version of the program because it won't do damage, dig?
Perhaps it will slow pirates (yarrr) down, but it won't stop anything.
If pirated programs often cause damage, then people won't pirate the software. End of story.
Nooooooooo, it means that people would DL releases from Groups they "trust" to put out quality cracks instead of just running whatever comes down the ol' Kazaa-pipeline... Piracy (yarrr) will find a way. It's like the Little Fuggin Engine That Could (rip you off). People have WAY more time to waste than money with which they are willing to part.
I believe this is a case where building a better mousetrap only serves to make smarter mice...
/and the midnight basketball program taught them to function without sleep
Assuming I would actually go to The Police instead of Paulie and the boys, I would tell them I was mugged for $100 (the value of my phat sack o' Buddha). Of course, this doesn't have anything to do with Piracy (yarrr), but neither does your analogy...
If it is good enough to be stolen, then it is good enough to be paid for...
Like Windows???;)
Seriously, though... That's pushing reality a bit too far. I understand what you mean and I may be inclined to agree in theory, but even a 2-bit sneak-thief knows your statement is NOT true. I would be willing to bet most pirated software is "tasted" and then deleted (probably all within the same 3 days).
I'm sure you are above reproach and have never applied a crack or "copied that floppy", but it happens all the time, and not all of those pirated apps are used more than once. I would even say "most", but I would be basing that on a gut feeling instead of facts...
The same idea got me through High School and half of college. Then it made me look like an ass for a few years until I got my chit together. I still find, however, I am my most creative and productive under a tight deadline.
You should see how well I drive when I'm running late... My crappy little Hyundai somehow becomes on par with a Formula 1 racer!
Thanks for the advice! I've had my eye on a PVR250 (or 2) for several months, but I can't justify the purchase on my current budget (that's french for "I'm fuggin broke").
I like this idea. I pick my RAM, HD and case to go with the "Processor" (which handles audio, video, CPU functions, et al). It would start to justify a $300 - $500 price tag then!
Definitely! It would also make me more inclined to spend more money on a video card. I can't see spending $300 on a top-of-the-line card for an imperceptible increase in FPS, but it becomes an important piece if it makes my whole PC run faster.
Yep! Bank of America's online system is awesome. My lunchtime purchases are usually already shown by the time I get back to my desk. It makes keeping and balancing a checkbook almost unnecessary.
Still keep the old mental calculator going to be safe, as sometimes the charges will drop off after initially posting, only to return after a business day. I used to be able to explain why, but I've lost interest...
I cut my teeth answering phones for a mortgage company and would have to hear people crying all the time about how they can BARELY afford to make their payments. I felt bad for them for a while, then came to a realization:
I'm paying rent.
Soon after came the realization that they bought a house they can't afford and there's only 1 solution. Not many people like to hear that, but parts is parts...
The other side of that coin is a group of people that USED TO be able to afford it and now they can't. . . Things change. Time to call U-Haul!

Have fun with that image for the rest of your life. It's like herpes. You'll NEVER get rid of it...

I liked creating swamps outside of all of the enemy's houses and wait for them to try to walk around outside...
