Does fracking cause this, or do poor people with already statistically bad health outcomes live near fracking sites? It's not as if Millionaires with nice health insurance live on top of fracking sites.
You must not be very old if you truly believe that, or you haven't gone through the usual process: 1) savior sells everyone on sacrifice to ensure future good 2) savior is found to be cheating everyone, or large scale economic parasitism is attached to savior's program 3) Populace becomes jaded and rejects savior 4) New savior announces future good is now possible, if only you follow HIS suggestions and sacrifice....
Then you do the next best. You get it in writing from your immediate supervisor, playing as if you're verifying facts of the request. Someone that is used to receiving such requests from you. He/she, in turn, realizes what you are doing, and does the same with His/her immediate supervisor. This continues up the chain until it eventually reaches the upper management who requested it. If someone along the line doesn't do this, they become the scapegoat, not you. It's a complete CYA action.
It was a prime example of escalation. Teacher calls it in, next person in line thinks "Hey, if I don't DO SOMETHING, and something bad happens, I'm screwed. So for CYA's sake, I'm going to be serious about it." And each person along the chain then escalated the issue trying to cover their own ass, with images of every school tragedy floating in their head.
I used to work with a guy who was indispensable, and broke all the rules with impunity. Then, suddenly, one day he wasn't indispensable, and he was gone. Poof. And you know what? We figured it out, replaced him, and got along fine.
C'mon, it's a joke, I laughed, you should laugh too. BTW I once saw a show in Australia called "The Root Police". it was NOT what you think it should be...
I used to work at a Credit Union financing a Taxi Medallion purchase in New York. This was a few years ago, and If I remember correctly, it was around US$1,000,000.
The real question is: How would you feel if , in whatever job you do for income, someone showed up to work for $0 hour for fun on the project, and they let you go?
Funny you should mention Nien Nunb, as I have a Filipino friend whose newborn baby had that same sorta look. I never mentioned it, but I did laugh inside at it. I was secretly hoping he'd have another kid and name him lando.
You know, the whole Fat Albert cartoon was conceived by Bill Cosby, who while a terrible role model the anti molestation movement, certainly was/is black.
I STILL, two years later, receive calls form India for the loser who had my cell number previously, telling me I qualify for loans I applied for, or from debt collectors. I've even received a few calls from car dealers, telling me the car he was looking at was available. I spent some time educating them as to the reliability of "Chris".
I've always felt that, as punishment, large corporations should be obligated to add a 5 second spot to their advertisement saying something embarrassing about themselves, such as "we're time warner, and we cheat our customers"
They're the kind that you can run up and down. They're great, as long as: 1) you have a soft surface ( padded matt, etc) to stand on. 2) you have the ability to change it up, so you can sit for maybe an hour spaced throughout the day.
bah, I run VISTA, of all things. I know how to do maintenance, repairs, speed it up, defrag, turn off unnecessary programs, etc. But you know what? If I wanted to do this, I'd go to work and get paid for it. I figure, load the system up with extra memory and faster drives, and not worry about it. As of this writing, my system is something like 8 years old and ungodly slow. fifteen minute boot time. I could take the time to clean it and carefully reinstall all the oddball programs I run on the thing, optimize it, etc. But if I'm going to take the time to do that, I'll just get a new system anyway, it needs updating.
Is not that we're all being spied on. ( Which, I should note, I think is evil and should stop) It's that every country that's moaning about being spied upon, given the exact same resources, would do it themselves in a heartbeat.
I would argue further. Marriage is now the domain of NON-STATE/FEDERAL entities, and let it exist as such, since there are obviously various definitions of it coming into existence. Wanna get married? Fine, do it. Your Church/social club/culture believes in marriage between (insert some definition of marriage here)? Fine, go ahead. Want the state to grant tax rights, parental rights, etc? Nope, sorry, fill out the form establishing these things if you want them. If you want to marry your (insert definition of partner/s here), then fill out the appropriate paperwork for them to visit you in the hospital, whatever: file it, you're good to go.
The issue is not so much that everyone wants their thing. It's that everyone wants their things and wants the state to back them up on it and for everyone to pat them on the back and agree with them.
Would this kill the concept of marriage? almost certainly, over time.

it's not offshoring that's killing jobs. It's automation. Look up the stats, it's just where it's going.
"free smoothies in the cafeteria only goes so far", Says someone with a cafeteria AND free smoothies.
I'm not sure about football fields, but I believe they all could fit in the library of congress.
That's an upgrade. I remember when it was all DOS on their terminals.

Wow, you beat me to pointing out the most ear gratingly bad quote of the piece.

So they don't open the diplomatic bag, they just "hold" it for a few weeks because of a security issue. Anyone inside, not so lucky.
