I'm interested to try out Camino. From the benchmarks, it did quite well, but Mozilla was still close behind it in performance. Add in the fact that Mozilla has virtually the same interface across all platforms it's ported to, and you have yourself one hell of a browser.
I feel like I'm beating the dead horse, but people's choice not to use IE is the reason we still have web standards. It's a good thing we have 7 choices for browsers on Mac.
now is to be able to play Battlefield 1942 on OS X/Motorolla. I really like the OS X window manager and the fact that I wouldn't have to patch my system every time a new worm came out for wintel.
Is there some sort of free product like Wine for running wintel software on OS X?
Shooter enthusiast, although I don't have the characteristic gut that was mentioned in the article. I almost got one, but that is because I spent a hot summer as a software engineer. The hot part is significant because it was too hot and humid to run/bike.
From my LAN party experience, shooter enthusiasts are tall and skinny.
My vice is Battlefield 1942, but I've been on the bandwagon since Doom 2...followed by Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Unreal/UT.
It is possible for gamers to have normal lives!! My girlfriend is sitting behind me, and we're off to play some late-night pool now.
I'm confused. Is the XDarwin considered the X11 emulator for OS X?
I'm trying to get my girlfriend to use OpenOffice on her IBook, but the XDarwin interface is annoying. I mean, when will she ever need the console windows that pop up?
I sincerely hope it takes less than two years for a native port!
As they download files, chunks of the files they have already downloaded become available to other users.
Yes, it sucks for users who don't have any content, but once they start downloading files, they have chunks to share with others.
As for getting their first files, they could go to special servers for people with no files. This could automatically be handled by eMule.
To most of us, it is common sense that Windows-based viruses and worms won't affect Macintoshes, but there are end users out there who think that viruses affect all platforms.
Unfortunately, none of those naive users browse this site.
At least clients/networks like eMule reward people for uploading and allowing incoming connections. During busy times, leechers on eMule have to wait about 4-5 times as long for files. I wish that eMule had an option to ban them all together, but when eMule servers get really busy, the leechers, or "LOW ID" people, can't get a single file.
You are totally right. Mod parent up please.
Windows machines are best used as gaming machines. The only way I ever hook mine up to the internet is if it is behind my trusty DSL router, which has protected me time and time again.
If I didn't play games, I would have bought an I-Book or a G-4 a couple years ago.
Well, if the plant were to reach meltdown, it would affect the US and Canada. I hope I never see the day when the Canadians come marching in to Michigan with their hockey sticks and whatnot.
But seriously, who would start a war over an unintentional nuclear disaster where the most damage was caused in the source country?
I'm not a Mac addict, but I could easily see myself becoming one. My primary machine is an Athlon 1700 w/512 MB of RAM and a sweet graphics card, your typical gaming machine. However, I do a lot of *nix-centric stuff, such as running PHP, Apache, MySQL, and Samba. These tools will all run on Windows, but nothing beats having a console at your fingertips. I know that windows XP has cmd.exe and cygwin, but they just aren't the same.
OS X has a nice console (terminal), all of my favorite standard unix tools (GCC, ssh, ftp, sftp, grep, etc..), and a GUI that doesn't make me angry. I will never be able to replace my gaming machine with a Mac or a *nix box, but I've seriously considered buying an OS X machine for my *nix activities. Apple really hit a grand slam with OS X, and I hope that we will see some web servers running OS X in the future.
They should spend some/all of that money to bring their poverty rate down from 25%! Check out other cool facts on Russia's economy: Click here.
Don't bother clicking the link if you're Russian: In Soviet Russia, link clicks you.
This may actually be good for the American IT worker when it comes to finding work. If the Chinese are using completely separate tools, they will not be able to work with American ones without a significant learning curve. If anybody has ever gone to a public college/university (the University of Minnesota comes to my mind), there are hundreds and hundreds of Chinese exchange students. If China develops their own line of products, they will have no reason to come here and learn American tools if they are going to return to their own homegrown products.
I for one welcome the decrease in competition for jobs. Who really knows though....:P
Honestly, I can't think of any off of the top of my head. I remember shopping for CDs in German music stores and seeing the label that had PC with a slash through it on the cases. Try google to find copyrighted CDs. I won't buy anything that won't work on my PC!!
So, do I even get to copy it between hard drives if one is FAT32 and the other one is NTFS?
Perhaps if the NTFS one is the destination?:P
On another topic: those European CDs are a real bitch to read/copy in a computer. If you ever want to kill one of those gumdrop Macs, just drop a European copyrighted music CD in the drive...hilarity ensues.
Precious!? Next time you're in Minneapolis, we'll go out and get you some good movies. All I can think of when I see that movie is Kevin Costner drinking his own pee.
I guess that will be the end of the cowbells.
Cowbells are pretty cool though. I spent some time in the Austrian Alps and met some farmers who could tell me which cow was nearby by the pitch of the bell.
I suppose the next thing to come along will be RFID tags for cows.
Smart cards aren't just used for credit cards. My bus card in Germany didn't even have a magnetic strip. It just had a smart card strip that stored my balance.
We had better come to some agreement before ebonics becomes another English dialect. We'll just have to go back to naming variables with single letters that represent the types of the variables.
On the lighter side, 'i' will be guaranteed to be of integer type!
Binaries and source code can still be found via Google. I just happened to grab a snapshot of it the night before the site got shut down. As the owner of almost every Blizzard title, I was saddened to see this project shut down.

"Shake it baby!"
"You wanna dance?"
Now THAT was acting. Am I the only person who hit spacebar for a half-hour?

I saved myself from failing a couple tests in college because my alarm didn't go off. Oh wait..I still failed them. Damn!

October 9th, 2003, John Connor scores with his future wife in the bunker, which was his plan all along.

It would be so nice if you could have your cake and eat it too, wouldn't it?
The coolest part about this (and scariest) is that we're controlling the exchange rates over EBay. I don't know whether to laugh or cry!
