Not just mobile. Newer generations of HTPCs, Plug like devices are using 20W. The AppleTV2 has a 6W power supply. Assume they overspec'ed it by 20%, that's 5W at full tilt.
They took out a full page ad in my college's newspaper. With just the chrome logo and a "Give the gift of....." and then a link to google.com/chrome.
Daily newspaper for a college campus of ~50,000 students. I know Firefox did the one ad a long time ago and I've never seen an Ad for IE. (other than MS in general). So Google is definitely going at this 'war' full force.
AMD has the top 10 of CPU Value Benchmarks. of available CPUs. I've been looking at upgrading my AM2 system and my final choice came down to the top 2 CPUs before I even found that list.
I think Intel has 4 out of the top 30 on that list. Intel does not have parts similar to AMD performance wise for the same price.
It doesn't matter to the software companies. It matters to me, who has to deal with botnets, spam, etc all from Windows Machines, some of it coming from pirated software with malware attached.
Not that everyone pirating Avast and Photoshop could get by with linux. But I bet a huge majority of college kids that are pirating the latest Office, Photoshop, etc could get along perfectly fine with an apt repository.
Maybe that should be Ubuntu's next marketing campaign. Tell college geek-wannabees that there is a super secret way to pirate free software called "apt-get". It's not for everyone since it has a steep learning curve. But if they master it, they can get some sweet software for free. Maybe a wrapper that puts "market" prices on the software.
Office Suite - $400!. But not if you use apt-get. Sssh, don't tell ANYONE.
Before you know it every 'hacker' on campus will be l33t with apt-get. Once you convert the guys that think they know a lot about computers will come the girls as the guys will try and use their skills to impress the girls.
I would skim my girlfriend's Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) magazines occasionally and the studies people did in the same of science were appalling.
They'd make medical conclusions on best fit curves with regressions in the 0.5 range or populations of ~10-20 people. I understand the desire to move to a statistics based approach in medicine, but someone should teach medical researchers statistics. I've worked with engineers that have never had a stats course and they punch data into Excel. Get a curve fit with a ever no slight correlation and get all excited.
Compared to my boss who makes us explain every single outlier point, why it happened, and if possible collect new data if we can fix what went wrong.
Apps which will apparently require OpenGL to render, on servers which don't even have OpenGL drivers?
X11 forwarding actually uses the graphics processor of the host machine.
X11 tunnel (ssh -X) to a machine and do 'glxinfo'. (If you get an error, "export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1").
I'm using it to do some work on XBMC. The build process for OS X is a nightmare while the Linux process is easy.
VirtualBox AND VMWare both lack OpenGL acceleration (WTF guys). So instead I ssh to my internal machine, run the export command and then launch XBMC. It pops up in a window and runs rather fast. It won't do 1080p but plays normal movies just fine.
Could you explain 'come down like Apple'? Apple's been rather passive when it comes to the OSX86 and Jailbreaking community. They do patch the bugs that allow jailbreaking, but that's to be expected.
They did go hard after Pystar, but they were looking to turn a profit from it.

Other than maybe "it's already packaged".
Search Google for "Home Made CNC". People have been making these out of OSB & plywood for a while.
Here's a pretty nice one using an off the shelf router.
Hack a day has an article from 2008.
Another.
They do require some technical knowhow. But that's about it. I think the most basic use parallel ports for IO.
XKCD. They need to watch out who they troll though. It could backfire.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
What's this "hunting" of which you speak?
SickBeard
Does Torrents & NZB files. I've NEVER had it miss a show. It aggregates like 6 different search providers so there is a lot of overlap.

7W is a huge % of those numbers.
And google is definitely firing the first Salvos.

Maybe that should go for Slashdot headlines as well.
East Germany didn't have American Idol.
Depends if he has a known STD and didn't inform his partners.
Maybe I've just watched too much Law and Order, but I'm pretty sure someone's been convicted of something by knowingly giving people AIDS.
Even though it was "consensual sex wearing no condoms".
I tool AP Calculus my Junior year of HS.
I have a seedbox that I use to rehost popular stuff to Usenet.
I can literally max out my home connection with Usenet where as torrents never quite hit that speed, plus there is no uploading involved.

What's wrong with "Debian"?
So the solution is to have all Comcast users seed as many "Ubuntu Distributions" as possible. Equaling the bandwidth.
I'm not dead (yet))
Yes you are.

Sadly, the Airlines will be deemed 'too big to fail' and you'll end up paying for it anyway.
No. This is an episode of Futurama.
I just wonder how many feet below the last one this universe is.
