According the book "The Difference Engine" by Swade she didn't contribute all that much. She was more of a hanger-on who enjoyed listening to Babbage's lectures and then writing about them. She was more of a promoter than anything else. She could definitely make a list of the Top Twenty Hardware Reviewers.
There's got to be more to it besides your browser. If you're getting 80-160 pieces of spyware you must be visiting some pretty sketchy sites and have your security settings set to minimal. I use IE almost exclusively and the worst I get is a couple of tracking cookies when I run AdAware.
...it's that people hate to be converted and they hate to be preached to. If your friends aren't looking to change their OS then just forget your little crusade because all you're going to do is piss people off.
Nervous about what exactly? How does owning a large percentage of the browser market make money when the browsers are given away free? All they have to lose here is bragging rights.
And after Google announced plans for Gmail, a free e-mail service touting massive amounts of memory, Microsoft said it would boost free memory on its Hotmail accounts.
This guy doesn't even know the difference between memory and storage so why should I listen to him?
What are you on about? He's asking if anyone else has had similar problems. No where in the article does it claim it is a widespread problem.
For what it's worth: it crashes at least once a day for me. Or when I click on Downloads from the Tools menu. Oh, and Slashdot doesn't render properly at all: the text bleeds off to the right hand side. I'm sticking with it though because I love tabbed browsing.
Total ammount of techsupport needed.. Way down from before.
Doesn't that statement sort of contradict the entire Linux business model of give away the OS for free but sell the support? If Linux is so easy to use that it needs little support then how does RedHat or Mandrake make money? Can't have it both ways.
Yes, because soccer moms who are going to take their kids to this are fiercly loyal to Pixar and their management team. lol. I figure, no one is going to notice that it isn't Pixar and will attend and enjoy Toy Story 3.
Exactly. Why is it so hard to believe that there was an ancient city that was destroyed by a natural disaster? Everyone thought Troy was a myth too until they found it.
Why does it seem that RFID stories are automatically posted under My Rights Online?

Uh, except that Google hasn't indexed all of the publicly available WWW. It's only indexed a small fraction of it. And the WWW isn't the Internet. They're different. Secondly, the Internet Archive alone has archived 1 petabyte of data so the figure of 230 terabytes of data on the Internet is obviously wrong.
Oh, and one other thing. Conversations are not a good way to organize e-mail. If you're looking for an e-mail you must know which conversation it was in. It's difficult if you have a few conversations with the same person. If you don't know which conversation it was in you must check each, expand it so you can see each e-mail and manually read through them. Sure the search feature might find it but 1. It only finds the conversation, not the e-mail so you'd still end up reading the entire thread and 2. What search terms would you use to find an e-mail like the following:
I've had Gmail since June and it's far from perfect. The Gmail search function needs a lot of work. Sometimes even searching by recipient won't find particular emails in the Sent folder.
For all the talk about labels vs. folders, I find labels are counter-intuitive. Here in my filing cabinet I sort documents into folders; I don't stick 3 or 4 different labels on documents and throw them all into the same drawer. It's crazy!
There are missing options like how about being able to permanently turn on Display External Images or turn off Auto Add to Contacts? Yeah, yeah it's Beta but that's actually my point. It's a little early to declare a Beta product the winner. How about we wait until Gmail allows signups before handing them the trophy? Because after all is said and done it isn't any better than Yahoo! mail except for the storage capacity.
I think you may be confusing Yahoo! the web portal with Yahoo! the search engine.. As you can see, Yahoo!'s search page is as clean if not cleaner than Google's.
And don't even get me started about the menus with chevrons! Assuming for the sake of argument we are talking about the current version of WORD, have YOU ever tried to walk someone through this kind of stuff over the phone? With MS' genius implementation of self-modifying menus, you could "claim" something is in a menu when trying to help someone when in fact because of their use menus, their menu is completely different from yours.
Without knowing where it was beforehand it took me about 5 seconds to find the following:
Right click on any Toolbar, Customize, Options, and check "Always show full menus."
Every search engine--not web portal--I can remember consisted of a search field surrounded by a couple of options. Alta Vista, Ask Jeeves, HotBot, Google. There's not much difference between any of them. What about the UI exactly do you mean?

Probably a good idea to read the forums before buying the product.
You're obviously being sarcastic but are OCR and handwriting recognition new and exciting ideas to you?
A x86 computer that runs OS X natively? Sign me up.
No, the electricity in your batteries most likely came from burning coal. But I'd rather burn American coal than buy Arab oil.
Check thebroken.org for a video explaining how to load software onto the GC using the optional ethernet port. It's Episode III.

So you sign first and then they figure out what the consequences are for non-compliance? Who in their right mind would sign such a treaty?
Smells like someone got pretty upset when Spock flipped him the bird.

Jim, Meet me at 6pm Tuesday.
Later.
When it's the time and date you want to find out.

I remember it being described as "sleek."

Didn't they already do this?
