I'm sure this is quite cut and dry to users of Linux but to laymen like myself and the judge in this case SCO has enough to go forward. That doesn't mean they'll win but I'd personally like to hear more. In every history of Linux I've read including The Cathedral and the Bazaar it's been explained to me that Linux came out of Unix. That alone leads me to believe that there is some Unix source in the Linux kernel. Please do not mod me down; I'm simply trying to answer the parent's question by explaining it from an outsider's view.

That means you could fit every man, woman and child on earth in Texas while giving EACH of them 127.272727 square meters of land. It's going to be tough for anyone to take away Google's share of the search engine market.

Tough but not impossible. Remember when you thought the same about Altavista? Yahoo!? Hotbot? Webcrawler? etc. etc. Do you seriously think that Google is the last word in search engines? I'm not saying that A9 is The One but I've been on the web long enough to know that Google will be replaced one day. As it stands now, it'll most likely be Microsoft's offering.

Which is exactly why Google fought to keep itself out of the dictionary. Once googling becomes a generic term that means "to perform a web search" your friend will not have to say that he A9d for it. He'll say that he googled for it despite the fact that he used a different engine. I'd say we're almost at that point now.

Install Admuncher for IE and you can configure it right down to whether or not the cow in the system tray is wearing shades or not. It blocks Google text ads, popups, banners, background music, and everything else with ease. And it replaces them not with large white squares but with nothing. This means little to most slashdotters. We dont use Yahoo, we all switched to google ages ago.

Why do people still consider Yahoo! a search engine when it's clearly a web portal and a popular one at that. Can you play Fantasy Football at Google.com? Can you play chess online? Can you watch trailers, listen to music, shop, check your calendar...etc. etc. Google is a great search engine but that's all it is. Yahoo! is a web portal that features a search engine. They're not even in the same game as Google.
