I think iRiver design is pretty slick, and I'd prefer to use that over something that's already too mainstream or too widely used.
It's almost the same case as phpBB, I don't like to use it because almost every phpBB forums out there uses the same look and colors (the subsilver), and I'm tired of it:P.

Give them a chance to work through their ideas, and judge their finished product. I have a lot of faith in Weta Workshop (partly because I know some of the people who work there), and I'm sure they'll have something spectacular by the end.
I have faith in Weta Worshop that they'll make really nice eye candy. But I doubt the movie is going to be good, aside from being an eye-candy movie (story-wise, acting-wise, etc). Most game/comic book adaptation aren't done good.
Anyone has any info who's going to write the story and direct the live action movie?
I'm taking a business/technical writing class at the moment, and after viewing the link in the news, I noticed that it's not presented that well for people who don't really wanna read the whole thing but wants to get the comparisons only (lazy people like me). Something what my instructor will frown upon if we write something like this in his class.
I think if the article has tables for comparison between the 3 services, people will be able to compare them better and faster, dont you think?
I wasn't looking for opinions, just looking for the hard facts like: cost, number of songs available, etc.
I think the real question/statement is not "Man Vs Machine In Chess", but "Engineers vs Chess Players", by Engineers i meant coders, chess analysts, and everybody else that has significant role in the process of creating the AI.
Anyone can hack together a linked list inverter. A lot of programmers can put out something more elegant, given unlimited time and resources. Some can even solve complex problems under pressure. But only a handful of coders crank out brilliant code when faced with a mind-bending challenge and a looming deadline. For them, impossible demands are the ones that begin to get just a bit interesting.
We have some serious problems and we'd like to share them with people who are motivated by that kind of challenge. So, you're invited to take part in the Google Code Jam 2003, a programming competition that will be worthy of your time, your skills and your interest.
There are rewards up to $10,000. Check the link above for more info.
Just saw the videos of the robot climbing the stairs and walking backwards. It's awesome, didn't think something like this can be accomplished in the current time.
You're right! It must be the internet rebels who shuts down the power plant. They must've used the nmap program to scan a vulnerable SSH server in the power plant, exploited it and shut down the power plant. So they can go inside a highly-secured building in order to meet some Architech dude. I believe they are known as the children of zion hacker group.
Have I also mention that they wear black and cool shades?
This site has some samples of movies in widescreen format and the result that one will get in the full screen format. widescreen.org. The full screen version of LoTR is really bad because of its original screen ratio.

Just install Norton Antivirus, and you'll be fine... well if you don't want the 30-day trial, you can use AVG =P

How big is Slashdot's database?
I'm gonna close my account there :(

Don't you just hate it when news sites change their article urls? They ought to make a proper redirection so search engines will be effective...
If in the future this technology is made into 3d and implemented for games, for example: a 3d shooter game, people can walk through the walls.
VR technology might be more appropriate for games.
this needs to be added to the news ;)
thanks for the clickable link, yes i'm too lazy to highlight, copy and paste
Here's a pretty good article comparing MySQL and Postgres.
I've noticed another interesting detail in the Asimo development path - didn't he used to be a lot taller? Like, 6 feet instead of 4?
Check this page. It contains the timelines of the robots tehnology up to ASIMO.

When will they start making C3PO?

Well, one of the main purposes of Slashdot is to link websites so that the mutant clicking zombies can DDOS them.
it's all because of IBPhoenix :(
i wouldn't say no to Faye Valentine, Cowboy Neal can have Spike or Jet for himself... :P
