    I have to agree, a MBA along with a technical bachelor's is pretty potent.

    Possibly a Software Engineering degree, but something that covers topics outside of just the technical areas.

    Employers like well rounded employees.

    I run linux and have a legitimate copy of Office. I do like Open Office, however, I am also going to grad school at night and some classes require that I use Excel for certain tasks, and Calc can't do everything I need to do in Excel. I do find Writer to be an acceptable substitute to Word, however I usually use Word anyway.

    Just kidding, overall I really like the sound of that hypothetical metapackaging system, Ive had so mayproblems on my Mandrake Laptop due to dependencys being in different repositories and one of the severs being out of date. I wish the policy you stated above was adhered to.

    No kidding, I was a big fan of Quake TF, so when Quake II came out I ran out and bought it waiting for TFII to come out. Then it was announced that it would be a HL mod, so I ran out and bought HL, now HL2 is about to come out (in theory) and they're saying that TFII will be an add on for HL2.

    At this point I've stopped caring, but still, I'll beleive it when I see it.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC the shoe bomber made it onto the plane and it was another passenger that noticed something was wrong, not any of the new security measures in place. And the dirty bomb scare was never verrified to be a legitimate threat.

    It seems to me that the shoe bomb is a stunning example of how the new security measures failed (as compared to the preexisting security), and for all that I still have to get to the airport at least an hour earlier than I used to.

    NEOGEOman, I just wanted to say gret job on the signal primer. I had always been a bit curious about video signals, though I had never looked into the subject. So I just wanted to to thank you for making an easy to understand document that covered everything I wanted to know (and more).

    Uhh, when you call the support line of an US company, for a product that you bought and use in the US, and you paid UD dollars for a support contract, I don't think it's too much to ask that the person who answeres the phone speaks such that an average American (whatever that is) can understand them. Plus one of the complaints mentioned was scripted responses so:

    in all probability is academically qualified, speaks English well and is technically sound

    was obviously not the prevailing case.

    Bunch of whingers...

    Of course from that statement I take it I may just be feeding a well moded troll, oh well. That's what I get for being an illerate American from Texas.

    Fair use might be construed into protecting you from having just one copy (timeshift or something?).

    Your Honor, I was just time shifting the movie a few months ahead, I'm aware that it hasn't been released yet, but I wont be available to watch it when it comes out.

    Wow, I'm ver impressed, he really seemed to care about the questions, and took the time to give good responses.

    Gaiman has been at the top of my favorite authors list for a while now. This makes me respect the person as well as the works. I always like to find out something about who the author behind good books is.

    Actually I've been thinking aboutit, my expereince has been different, in the corporate world I had really good managers who didn't care for office politics and had a real the buck stops here attitude, so problems didn't bleed down, and if you made a mistake you just fixed it and everyone moved on. I wish more people had that attitude, I think we were more productive because of it, and I didn't have to put up with what seems to be the typical BS in corporte america. Several friends of mine have had quite different expereinces.

    Lucky me.

    Well, Ive worked in evil corporate environments and government writing software. I've never felt like I needed to watch my back as such. Not all MBAs and managers are PHB types and generally everyone knows who the bad people are (wheather they're management ot tech workers), they may get away with a few things at first, but it doesn't take long for them to be found out.

    This has been my expereince, and I've been in the whole range of environments, from small companys to mega corporations and government. I've actually found the large corporations to value hard work, and less on backstabbing and politics, government being the worst for politics and finger pointing.

    But, maybe my expereince has been different from the norm.

    Instead I get to work in a common area, with no windows, with people coming in and out and having meetings all day. Not even my own workstation, though since I work at this machine all day, no one else really uses it.

    Reading this article just made me wish I had my own cubicle. I'm supposed to be dreaming of having my own office, instead I dream of having my own workstation and my own cubicle, and wondering what it's like outside right now.

    My previous employeers had great perks and working conditions, I didn't realize how good I had it, I left one for a better opportunity, that better opportunity went bankrupt, and now I'm here. Oh well, at least I have a job.

    Well, I'm currently running Mdk 9.1 on a Compaq Presario 906US (Athlon 1500+, ATI Radeon Mobility, Built-in DVD/CD-RW). Waired ethernet, no problem, Linksys Wireless (11g) is sort of working (I'm still working on the config) using linux-wlan.

    I can speak as to the firewire support, but my TV out worked for DVD, and I'm using an HP printer attached to a Windows 2000 machine using Samba and CUPS drivers.

    Also I couldn't get any other distro to install on my laptop, it had to do with the 2.4.21 Kernel Mandrake's using (other distro's still on 2.4.20). This is fine by me I've been using Mandrake since 5.X (don't remember exactly, I just threw out some old install disks, that took me back, what was that '97 '98? Linux has come a long way in the few years)

    Anyway hope that helps.

    The company [Color Kinetics] holds 19 patents related to the control of LED lighting systems, and has filed for more than 100 additional patents. "We spend about a million dollars a year filing patents," says chief executive George Mueller. The company has two full-time patent lawyers in-house, and also works with the Boston firm of Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks.

    Great!! I'm not against the concepts of patents, but this just seems crazy, this can only hinder innovation not promote it.

    overly broad patents + full time patent lawers != good business
