* I'm running an iBook at 1024x768 and I'd rather see more content that I'm trying to read than ads. * I use a CSS file in my Safari settings to block all manners of ads. * Most of the time the ads are not for Canadian products and I couldn't care less. * I prefer not having things blinking and flashing at me while I try to read text.
Well, if it's going to be AO rated, then hell, I want to be able to buy the copy WITH the Hot Coffee code enabled. Why remove it now that the rating allows pretty much anything they want.
Also, I don't see how changing the rating is going to fix that parents are STILL buying games that are inappropriate for young children!
I'm confused. GTA has been a Mature rated game, meaning 18 and older for a long time. How about we educate the parents, to take an interest in what their children are doing, and stop buying inappropriate games for them.
Sit down and play the games that your kid is playing, who cares if you're not interested, at least you won't be blind sided by your ignorance, when something like this comes out of left field.
Take an interest in your kids activities, and you won't have 12 year olds, playing games with organized crime, prostitution, assassinations and sex.
I just converted my old Dell P3-800 to a MythTV backend server. There are two components to the MythTV setup. You can run the backend, which handles all the scheduling, recording and media management, requiring you to setup a frontend system somewhere, that can be a Mac (works great on my ibook, streamed live television on my 802.11g) or PC, or even XBox (xbmcmythv project on SF.net).
I setup the box purely as a backend system recording with a Hauppauge PVR-150MCE capture card, and then use my XBox running XBox Media Center as the viewing end.
I particularly like the feature of auto-skipping commercials. After MythTV is done recording, it scans the recording and flags all the commercials, allowing you to skip right by them with out ever picking up the remote. I didn't have that on my last PVR. Plus, now I'm not bound by how I get my television (Antenna, Cable, Digital Cable, Sat) since the MythTV setup will work with any of those.
There is a nice packaged install out there for Fedora Core 3 users. Plus this handy walkthrough, for installing FC3 and MythTV http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/
I just gave a lecture to my Aunt for letting my 13 year old cousin rent GTA. It is the PARENTS who need to enforce, along with the stores. Take an interest in what your kids are doing with their time on their video games, and enforce the ratings.
I'm fairly sure that the kids playing GTA are not being supplied with smokes, booze, and porn.. or maybe they are.
In turns out that an alien message designed to last millenia should be 'inside a large number of self-replicating, self-repairing microscopic machines programmed to multiply and adapt to changing conditions', otherwise known as living cells. Are we the message?
Doesn't any one else remember this Star Trek TNG episode?
I recently refunded my Annual renewal. And I was reading on the XBox support page, their calculation for determining your refund level. You can refund any remaining portion of your Annual subscription. At any time. It's simply a prorated refund. The easiest thing to do is call 1-800-4MY-XBOX (North America) and get them to process the remainder back to your card.
There is an associated cost with swipe cards, plus you have to manage who has what card, and replace lost cards. I'm constantly forgetting my card in my car when I head up to the office. It's a lot harder to forget your hand, or loose it!
I guess while I'm out picking up an M rated game for my Kid, I should probably grab him a carton of smokes, some really nasty porn and some Jack Daniels.
Really, if your a parent, and you have a kid that plays games, you may want to take an interest in the rating system, and use it as a guideline, the same way you would for movies. Entertainment Rating Board
The article says that he "fired a single gunshot to the gaming system disabling it" it then goes on to say that the "gunshot did not penetrate the system" and "Kersey has been charged with... destruction of property"
My question is if he didn't penetrate the case of the XBox, yet he still disabled it and is being charged with destruction of property, what did he hit?
Fancy shooting that took out the controller, or shot out the power cord. Maybe he aimed at the XBox and hit the TV. That would disable my ability to Game.
The reason why I go console over PC every time is the cost. I can spend the same amount of money for the PC or Console version of a game, BUT I don't have to spend more money on hardware with my Console.
I have KOTOR for my XBox and love it, my perfectly respectable P3 833 won't play the PC version.
I'm guaranteed that every game out there for my XBox is going to play beautifully on my XBox, the same can not be said about the PC games.
My thoughts, are that there are a lot of people out there running their own sites be it for blogs or business or whatnot. I've been using Apache for years. With highspeed lines becoming more prevalent it's even easier now to serve up your site from home. Apache makes it easy and free! It would be interesting to see the breakdown of Apache from the perspective of Private or Corporate usage.
I agree. If the level of piracy was as high as the Gaming companies lead us to believe, there wouldn't be enough money out there to produce all these fabulous games.
It's hard to feel sorry for a company that's making hundreds of millions and they complain that they missed out on a few extra mill.
Impressed that the Hints are not just for newbies

I flipped through his book and was impressed to see that the hints where not just aimed at newbies. There where some nice back-end changes that you could make (the kind I like to make) if you have some experience with BSD already and are not afraid of terminal.
I don't know if I'd buy it though, since I do have enough skill to find all the hints on the site, without the pretty screen shots and all. It is a great book if you're on the cusp of getting deeper into how OS X works and getting the most out of your Mac.
I enjoy seeing the whole movie. Not just start to finish but left, right and everything intended to be in the frame.
I don't have a wide TV, but I greatly prefer letterbox over pan and scan. I wish the movie channels would get on board with the trend in DVD and broadcast in letterbox too.
I picked mine up yesterday. I havn't bought a GB since the original back when I was 13.
Screen: Looks good. Nice colors, no streaking when scrolling, with the backlight on it looks good in any light. With the light off, you need some direct light to see it really, sunlight or a bright room.
Battery: I charged it up yesterday and like they advertise, I got about 10 hours of play with the backlight on!
Comfort: It fits nicely in my pocket when folded up and is comfortable in the hands when playing. I particularily like the flat buttons. I remember the directional pad became uncomfortable on the thumb after extended play. Not this one. I played Phantasy Star for 4 hours straight and no gamer's thub:)
Drawbacks: It's a bit dissapointing that you need to buy an adapter to plugin headphones. I also appear to be missing a cable to play with my friends. I've been out of the GB world for a while, however, my original did ship with the cable to play head to head games.
Overall: I can't put it down. I especially love the compact size.
Hmm.. looks like it's all charged up again. Back to Phantasy Star (yes, you can use it while it is plugged in, but I was hungry too)

I think it's called parenting.

Helped me out a lot, and made life really easy.

Hmm, creatures able to withstand powerful acids, maybe using it for, say blood.... I can't place my finger on it... sounds familiar.

That's the one, Virtual Boy. I couldn't remember the exact name. I think it had a total of 5 or so games made for it. Most notably tennis. Too funny.
This smells a lot like Gameboy 3D. I don't think it's going to do too well.
