  1. Is it 1988 again? on Tech Firms Oppose Union Organizing · · Score: 4, Insightful

Jeez I've been listening to this for 20 years. IT workers resist unionization. Why? I don't know but I suspect it has something to do with believing that each of you is more capable and special than anyone else. Even in companies like IBM who in the early 90's laid off a quarter million people, still, the remaining workers resist unionization.

  2. Synology boxes are a GREAT on SoHo NAS With Good Network Throughput? · · Score: 2, Informative

They are a little on the high end, cost wise for consumer boxes but they are very reliable, the firmware actually works WELL, they support NTFS and their network interfaces function up to spec. And they support Mac.

They make units from 1 bay SATA up to 4 bay 1U hot swappable dual 1Gb dual power supply rackmounts.

Or it feels like it. I think it's GOT to be something approaching 50%. Every 4 minutes there's a 4 minute commercial break. It's unwatchable.

SciFi network is just as bad, so is TBS. Comedy Central is getting to that point. When they start running interludes DURING a stream of commercials to remind you what channel you're on, because you probably zoned out around commercial #20, it's all going in the crapper, isn't it?

  5. Most buyers won't go for it on Vista To XP Upgrade Triples In Price, Now $150 · · Score: 1

Why? Because most buyers don't know what's good or bad about either of them. And they probably don't care. They should, but they don't. And if you tried to explain it to them they'd glaze over in 15 seconds and tell you it doesn't matter either way. The sad fact is that most buyers are happily stupid and if their PC doesn't work at all 50% of the time, or worse, it crashes completely and won't function at all, a goodly number of them would take weeks if not months to get it corrected.

Today with USB 2.0 you can get adapters that are "USB 2.0" and yet get only a tiny fraction of the spec's throughput. The basic problem with the USB spec is that there's no provision for ensuring that meeting the spec is achieved or even meaningful.
