    I dunno, it might be in that whole section where the supreme court is allowed to like....decide....cases, and build a body of law, thus changing and improving (patching almost)the regulations we all live under. but i dunno, i didn't actually read the whole thing either, I did have a better highschool american history class apparently...

    This is a pretty common argument heard in these types of debate. The thing is, we ALREADY have laws governing these types of things. They are called Libel, Child Pornography and Conspiracy. They are already illegal, and doing them provides Probable Cause to the Lawful Search and Siezure of property (search implying the loss of privacy).

    I would say that in this situation that the precedent could be very dangerous. Imagine that all of a sudden the e-mail charge becomes common. Of course the government is going to need to tax it. Then our heroes come up with the 'TOTALLY DIFFERENT' solution. The problem is that this solution pretty much sends e-mail. Do you really think that these large corps and the gov are gonna give up that cash?? NOT A CHANCE IN HELL! They are going to cover it under 'e-mail' and take the charges regardless of the fact that it runs on some fancy new protocol.

    Who are you to tell me how I can use the internet I pay for.

    guess what, he DOES have that right, and it is NOT free.

    I truly believe that anybody who thinks government or corporate regulation is a good way to fix a problem on the internet is smoking crack! I mean cripes, we all know how good a job the FCC is doing at "regulating" the airwaves (read regulate as making it too expensive for anybody to actually use)

    A couple of informative responses so far, thought I would add my .02....

    I got the Creative one because it was $150 cheaper than the ipod with the same size HD (30 gb). The whole thing that prompted me to do this was getting all of my CD's stolen out of my car. I absolutley love being able to just unplug my adaptor and be able to take my whole music collection with me in a 3x5 container. The fact that your entire music collection can fit in your shirt pocket is a definite advantage.

    I had the misfortune of being born in a country whose beliefs and mine just dont seem to be compatible. That is fine, apparently most Americans actually like this country, or the laws, or whatever.

    What you have to remember is that you can not ever truly change people. So save up a little money, find a place you want to live, and go there. Remember that that is how most people got here in the first place.

    I would say that the problem with outsourcing is not that higly experienced programmers can't find work any more, but that inexperienced programmers can't find work any more. You were obviously lucky and started your career path before the bubble burst. You had one of the monkey jobs at some point to gain the experience that makes you valuable. This sort of starting point is becoming less availible. And that is a problem for two reasons. The first is that there are less jobs, and the second is that all of the people in the field will eventually die and there will be no one to take their place, which is when the high experience jobs will begin to move to India as well.

    a lot of people have already mentioned Canada already, but the differnce is truly suprising. I live in Seattle and have friends in Vancouver that I go up to visit. Seattle is a pretty diverse place, but Vancouver truly is the most diverse city I have ever been in. I have done a good amount of traveling throughout Europe, Mexico and the US, and I have never seen more different cultures represented in such a small place

    Note to recent grads: PINAL(parent is not a lawyer), there are certain "right to work" states that allow businesses to hire people below minimum wage. Waitresses, for example, can be paid below minimum wage. Also, minors can be hired for less than minimum wage in certain circumstances.

    There needs to be a middle ground between no profits and obscene profits that provides the maximum benefit for the society at large.

    well, we were talking about both. I guess I misinterpreted what you were talking about though. A lot of people do think that aluminum is not very conductive though, mostly because it oxidizes so much. That was discussed a little farther down the thread, I should have read a little further to not make a redundant statement.

    Aluminium is used because it's one of the best metals for absorbing heat, it's a crap conductor though

    informative my ass. I work in a wire drawing mill as the enviro and IT nerd. you know what they make power lines out of....wait for it.....aluminum! There is a steel core to make it strong, but the conductor is aluminum. We actually make the steel core and then it is sold to an ACSR producer. ACSR: Aluminum Coated Steel Reinforced, it is a bigass 19 strand wire with the 7 inside lines made from galvanized steel.

    if an action was acceptable in the past then it is still acceptable today

    that is the statement at hand.

    (x is acceptable in past) ==> (x is acceptable today)

    by this rule slavery was acceptable in the past therefore it is acceptable today, which is obviously false (in the US). Now maybe that was not what you meant, but the actual logical premise is obviously false.

    a libertarian president would have to deal with THIS government. Once again proving that a libertarian president would be devestating to the country because they would want to immediatly apply there libertarian philosophy.

    just because they are a libertarian does not make them stupid or a bad politician. Working within this system implies that there could be no drastic change toward "libertarian philosophy". Afterall, when was the last time you heard of something in the government happening fast.
