I saw your gamer hell link. I have played relatively few games, especially compared to you, but have noticed rather excellent AI in Halo 2. Island Thunder is also decent.
Even though I've got an Xbox and am buying a 360 and probably won't ever buy a Nintendo, I always like their 'talk' best - "We are a gaming company making a gaming system."
When I get home from work and before going to bed, all I really want to do is load something up and get some thrills from killing people with a big noisy gun. Whoever delivers that best wins.
Given how Sony lied about the capabilities of the last PS even closer to launch than the PS2 launch and how the cell processor doesn't actually exist yet, I don't see how you can compare the two yet.
He says it's all ready to go. They just need to get production started. It sounds really good the way they are describing it - "An Itunes for Video Games - in your living room." "We are the world's largest video game store." Pricing it at $20 a month sub, two year contract gets you the console.
Interviewer did a poor job because he didn't ask the most important question - WHAT ABOUT THE GAMES!!!
In describing the controller, Reggie said that the new console will access the entire Nintendo Library history. He said if you looked at all the controllers going back to the original NES and lined them up, it would give you a hint about what the new controller would have to look like.
I am guessing it's some kind of dynamic surface that will have be able to create a raised and lit up surface depending on the needs of the game. Or maybe it won't have a the ability to raise itself, just the ability to display different interfaces.
Putting aside your libertarian troll in item #1, a more comprehensive response is that states normally do not address any of the issues listed, at least directly. Hunger/homelessnes is federal, and in some cases cities get involved, too. Some states do get involved with healthcare but it is largely a federal mandate.
But, yeah, IL is run by Democrats. The law is stupid and a good argument for limited government.
Actually, they did - they were included with the first issue of the Official Xbox Magazine and have since been included in every issue. I suspect that as release gets closer, you will see more 360 demos included in OXM disks for the original Xbox.
No, really, they are not. The lack the drama of the original series and the scope and grandour of the three prequels. Lucas wrote Star Wars. Timothy Zahn reads like cheap fan fiction.
I see too many of the posts here where people are dismissing the 'faster processor' as no great leap forward.
That faster processor-"s", mind you, are the biggest difference in terms of what the games will be able to deliver. Going from a 733MHZ pent to THREE 3.2 parallel processors? That is HUGE. That is the biggest difference between the original and the 360.
Wireless controllers? PLEASE.
And support for HDTV? DUde - the current Xbox supports HDTV!!! Developers can develop 720p and the Xbox will display it at such.
Funny how you're the only higly mod post to point this out and you're not even a 5.
I tuned in to see graphics of games. I saw precious little of that. Who cares how many CPUs it has or how some guys modded an original Xbox or how you can use it to run a model united nations?
I wanted to see what this thing is capable of. I saw nothing that impressed me except the Need for Speed game and the NFL game - and even that NFL game wasn't too terribly impressive. Everything else looked like it could run on a current Xbox or even a PS2.
It was quiet sad, really. If they had only just done a cinescape show (G4 show with nothing but in-game footage) I wouldn't have been so underwhelmed.
No, see, I am the target. I'm 27, male, and single with a good chunk of discretionary income. I owned an Xbox and 30 games. I ordered the original in advance as part of a bundle that had 2 controllers, 4 games, and the DVD remote. I received it on the morning of release. I'm likely to do the same with the next Xbox if I like what I see.
Sony knew the Apprentice demo overlapped their own and they paid to have their product featured as one of the projects on the show. I wish MS had done this or been as smart about this announcement.
There in lies the problem! Most people think the iPod is an mp3 player. The majority of the digital music player market is dominated by the iPod. They've effectively lied to the majority of the market.
Nah. They didn't lie to anyone. They state the following clearly on their site: Yahoo! Music Unlimited songs can
be transferred to Plays-for-Sure subscription-compatible devices including Zen, Rio, Sony, Phillips,
Dell and others as long as the subscription is valid. Learn more about Plays-for-Sure devices
I don't see Target brand cotton swab's calling themselves Target Q-Tips. It's not the same, and if I were Thompson I'd put an end to this now! Even Phillips went after the RIAA for selling DRM'd CD's with the Audio CD Logo, since they didn't conform to the redbook standard.
Again, the TRUTH is that every Ipod and Every Play-for-Sure device out there *will* play MP3s.
Further, the Yahoo! music site doesn't use the word "mp3" but instead refers to "digital players." So next time RTFA.
PArdon me, it's now time for me to sign up for one year of service with YaaaHOOOOoohoooooo!
Right, but you obviously need to read the fine print or at least have common sense to know that only Itunes works with Ipod. I don't think anyone out there is going to ignore all the warnings and sign up for this service thinking it will work with their Ipod - or even their non-Play For Sure capable MP3/WMA player.
It's not to lie to anyone - most folks don't know the difference and if it's not an Ipod, it will play WMA as easily as it will play MP3s. "MP3 player" is just the consumer name for a device - it's not even "MP3" as much as an "ehmpeethree" player. Like McNuggets, Q-Tips, Jello, etc.
I recall reading the same 'all about money' thing regarding the collectable card games of the last decade or so - MTG. Still, I've yet to see anything that can change the balance in the 'twitch' games that dominate Xbox Live. Perhaps this would occur in the sports games, though, where you can buy a better player to sub in. Still, I think most tournaments and most players would stick to straight vanilla games.
How can you live with this arrangement, of not actually owning the media you enjoy, knowing it could be gone the next day or after your drive crashes?
My 110GB of mp3s and mp4s is backed up, playable on any computer or portable music device in my house, and the music itself is not going anywhere. You cannot say the same.
If my hard-drive crashes, I DL it all again. I may have to let it run overnight, but it will be restored.
And with the portable kits, I can play my music on any device in my house, too, through the FM transmitter or by plugging it into the device or my computer. Even in the car.
Also, the price just dropped - $5 a month for a yearly sub with Yahoo or $7 a month on a month-to-month basis.
What are you going to do when your collection of CDs is stolen and your HDs get wiped out? Aren't there a limited number of times you can restore backups from stuff you bought from the iTMS?
I saw your gamer hell link. I have played relatively few games, especially compared to you, but have noticed rather excellent AI in Halo 2. Island Thunder is also decent.
OT, but I have a PC but not the $2k to keep it cutting edge every year and don't like the hassle of PC online versus the smooooooove XBL interface.
When I get home from work and before going to bed, all I really want to do is load something up and get some thrills from killing people with a big noisy gun. Whoever delivers that best wins.
Worse interviewer. On the last show before E3 the rest of the cast was laughing at him to his face. They wouldn't even let him go out to LA.
So the cell that is going into the PS3 does exist now? If so, I stand corrected.
Given how Sony lied about the capabilities of the last PS even closer to launch than the PS2 launch and how the cell processor doesn't actually exist yet, I don't see how you can compare the two yet.
I donno what folks are talking about re: Q3 being geared towards elite folks. It was about the same as UT. Please explain?
He says it's all ready to go. They just need to get production started. It sounds really good the way they are describing it - "An Itunes for Video Games - in your living room." "We are the world's largest video game store." Pricing it at $20 a month sub, two year contract gets you the console.

True. Nintendo will also be distributing their library off the net.
The efficient market theory at work.
I am guessing it's some kind of dynamic surface that will have be able to create a raised and lit up surface depending on the needs of the game. Or maybe it won't have a the ability to raise itself, just the ability to display different interfaces.
Any other theories?

Maybe size, price, and battery life. I'm guessing this thing will be about $50.
That faster processor-"s", mind you, are the biggest difference in terms of what the games will be able to deliver. Going from a 733MHZ pent to THREE 3.2 parallel processors? That is HUGE. That is the biggest difference between the original and the 360.

I guess the MS Rep was... wrong.
Sony knew the Apprentice demo overlapped their own and they paid to have their product featured as one of the projects on the show. I wish MS had done this or been as smart about this announcement.
Damn. I dunno what I'm going to watch. What a lousy time slot to choose!
