  1. Mediachest Napsterizes Blockbuster on Orkut Goes Dark, At Least For A Bit · · Score: 3, Interesting

Mediachest is another social software / friendster type site that allows you to create real-life P2P borrowing networks out of the physical items that you own. It supports integration into existing online and offline communities through its group system, and doubles as an inventory tracking site with public lists of what you own so that you can show them off to your friends or members of web forums you frequent.

  5. Same Microbes Make You And Your Food Healthy on Microbes for Bioremediation · · Score: 3, Insightful

There is a total revolution going on in all food production worldwide through the use of a class of microogranisms known as Purple Non-Sulfur Bacterias (PNSB's). The work was pioneered by a Japanese scientist who did research for 20 years to perfect a synergistic formula of different microogranisms that work together, including the PNSB's, lactic acid bacteria, and yeasts.

Almost all organic farms are now spraying soil with this solution. Additionally, people who raise animals are feeding it to their animals. Not just organic farmers, but even traditional mass production farms in the US because it lets them *totally eliminate anti-biotics and hormones* due the increased nutrition the microbes afford creates who consume them.

Human beings are actually supplementing with these as well. It is very popular in Japan and South Korea, and is becoming popular in America.

The PNSB's act as reducing agents, ie, antioxidants. So, the break things down by creating antioxidants that eliminate the material over time, as opposed to oxidizing bacteria that makes things putrify and rot. The reduction ability of the PNSB's is why the US military uses the same exact solution as the farmers and humans do, to break down toxic waste from weapons and nuclear power plants.

There's a site called mediachest.com which lets you keep track of what dvds, games, cds, and books you own, then see what your friends own and it lets you create sharing networks between yourself and friends and people you know.
The relevancy here is that because your collection is in the site's database, you have the ability to find other people with similiar interests and those can be narrowed down to people local to you (close to a certain postal code). It even lets you find like minded people based on what school you go to.

  9. RS232 Is EVERYWHERE on Convincing Colleges to Upgrade Their Classes? · · Score: 4, Insightful

I don't know about Token Ring, but RS232 is all over the place in industrial hardware like barcode scanners and other non-PC hardware. I think it is much simpler to program both for the programmers and the hardware designers. Also, remember that Intel came up with USB to sell processors because USB is a total CPU hog as compared to FireWire. So, while your PC does not have a problem with this now, certainly industrial hardware does not have the infrastructure on board to deal with USB. So, I think the appropriate thing is to talk about RS232, USB, IrA, BlueTooth, and WAP. You want BlueTooth because it is going to be in all cellphones, hence proliferate into everything else. You want WAP because for things where BlueTooth is too slow, you will want a higher-speed wireless system. For instance, you could have a WAP enabled Digital Video Camcorder that automatically pops up a recording window when you start recording, all without any wires!

  10. Why should they pay to teach you? on Internships in the Post-DotCom Era? · · Score: 1

The point of an intership is that you don't have experience and are learning as a student so you work there and get experience and it is ok you are learning because the resources they put into teaching you is in lieu of salary. Not to troll, but why exactly do you feel someone should pay you to be an intern? If you were good enough to be paid, why would it be an internship?

  11. Oil Curreny War To Blame For Problems on Venezuela Falling Behind · · Score: 5, Informative

The link below discusses not just the Iraq war, but the how oil is tied to the world economies at a very low level and how Venezuela is in some sense at the heart of the matter with their use of oil as a fiat currency in lieu of the US dollar among their latin american trading partners. http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/RRiraqWar.html Although completely suppressed by the U.S. media and government, the answer to the Iraq enigma is simple yet shocking -- it is an oil currency war. The real reason for this upcoming war is this administration's goal of preventing further Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) momentum towards the euro as an oil transaction currency standard. However, in order to pre-empt OPEC, they need to gain geo-strategic control of Iraq along with its 2nd largest proven oil reserves. This essay will discuss the macroeconomics of the `petro-dollar' and the unpublicized but real threat to U.S. economic hegemony from the euro as an alternative oil transaction currency. The author advocates reform of the global monetary system including a dollar/euro currency 'trading band' with reserve status parity, and a dual OPEC oil transaction standard. These reforms could potentially reduce future oil currency warfare.
