I'm guessing your voice has changed a lot in the last few years.

  2. tantra on Does Having Fun Make IT More Enjoyable? · · Score: 5, Funny
I practice Tantric IT, wherein you purposely try to postpone job enjoyment as long as possible.

They say it fosters a more special bond between you and your employer.

Microsoft will be adopting the RSS icon's look-and-feel but they plan to store it in the new OIC (Office Image Container) format which they plan to introduce in Office Vista.

You will need IE8 service pack 1a to view the icon.

Would that be some sort of twisted 5th amendment violation (if it were a criminal suit against Google staff)?

If you plan to rely on graceful restarts, be sure to set MaxChildren appropriately low, proportional to your server request rate, otherwise your config changes will never get picked up.

  13. Re:Can you hear me... Can you hear me now... on Driving Away Teens With High Frequency Noise · · Score: 1
Re-read the part where the article mentions that the sounds would only be played in front of stores.

Combined with the fact that high frequency sounds are very directional, this isn't going to bother patrons once indoors, hearing aided or not.

I hope this gets proven because then Tempest will go down in history not as a video game but rather an interactive documentary on gravity.

  15. Re:uh, no on Can Anthrax Be Controlled? · · Score: 1
    Anthrax is still producing records.
It's true. For example, they recently seized the record for most consecutive album releases with zero consumer interest, besting long-time tied recordholders Kris Kross and solo John Oates (recording as "Here's Oates in Your Eye").

What I'd like, I guess, is a language that is very similar to JavaScript, but has a real object-oriented system and better support for things like loading code dynamically.
Perhaps they'll invent it someday. Like in 1991.

No offense, but if your magnum opus is a 200-line MFC app that pretties up "netstat", I am not sure you are qualified to judge what's "hard". Actually, I'm sure you're not.

Not every mouseover need be a trigger. Passing through a zone (e.g. the browser tab you mention) might just reveal a "handle" which would then require a secondary mouseover to fire what we think of as the "click" event.
