  2. The psychology of movie ownership on Why Microsoft Won't Have Blu-ray on the Xbox · · Score: 1

Just speaking for myself, I like downloading t.v. shows on my DVR. However, Microsoft's alternate fails to see how business is actually done and will at best only be attractive to people who want to buy television shows in HD. As far as films go, how do you think movies make money after the first weekend? They sell physical media once twice or more with continuous "Director's Cuts," "Special Editions," "Fifth Anniversary," etc. that capture the buyer's impulse in a bricks and mortar store for the next couple of decades. Sure, you can have this as downloadable too, but I suspect that the compulsion to buy another version of "Hellboy" will be reduced when you and your spouse can see the other two versions floating in a 52" screen right next to each other.

This is anecdotal. You will find Libertarians in all walks of life. The same goes for Rightists. The same goes for Leftists. Stop thinking about this so much and do what you think is right. Keep an open mind and talk to people. Be informed and that's all that anybody expects of you in a democracy.

  9. Re:Can it record while you play online? on Sony to Add TV Tuner, DVR to PS3 · · Score: 1

In the U.S. there is the practical problem for competing with Tivo in the satellite receiver market. The folks on cable will never get any non-cable approved/third party recorder to work properly. Going to Europe makes sense from this standpoint.

  10. Re:no clear direction on Sony to Add TV Tuner, DVR to PS3 · · Score: 1

An observation: The Wii has a shortage of games and isn't even a DVD player. It's good for getting gamers off their ass, but not exactly a breakthrough technologically except that its capture the spirit of the moment well and is riding high b/c of the excellent price point. I have a PS3 and think the 360 has done well for itself and want it to do well, just like the Wii, because competition is good for the consumer. Give us choices, not fanboy nonsense.

One of the earliest non-fantasy roleplaying games was Chaosium's "Call of Cthulhu." This is a fantastic game that seems to always be under the radar. If you like horror and detective fiction, where you actually use mind and intuition more than your magic items, I highly recommend it. It's premise is based on the horror fiction of H.P. Lovecraft and presupposes alien "gods" and supernatural forces lie beneath the surface of reality. I highly recommend this to anybody out there!

  25. In Summary on The Urban Geek As A Mugger Magnet? · · Score: 1

Summarizing everything above that made sense: 1. Be aware of your surroundings. Notice people and don't look down. Be streetsmart and try to travel along routes in the safer times of the day and night. 2. Don't use an identifying bag that screams "I've got a laptop." Hide your laptop in a plain vanilla, cheap military style backpack or shoulder bag. As far as your iPod, don't use it walking around or fiddle with the buttons on the tube or anywhere else someone can see you. 3. Consider changing the image you project to the world. It's a big city and sometimes the look you wear screams "Mug me harder." Consider the shabby clothes, boots, and short hair suggestion if you travel alone. Consider studying a practical martial art like the Filipino Martial Arts (Eskrima/Arnis/Kali) or Jeet Kune Do. Check out: http://www.jkdlondon.co.uk/ . 4. Try not to carry all of your best gear with you. Consider investing in a cheap laptop for utility purposes, a low-end MP3 player, or a CD player with your own mix, etc. to tote in the worst parts of town. Good luck!
