Why doesn't TFA at least mention that Apple supports an open format that's also lossless, and also supported widely? Its a shame they don't sell it, but they do support it. Implying that they simply don't support lossless audio compression doesn't help sell FLAC as an option, it just makes you look like a liar.

I'm "part of the Slashdot crowd" and I think the iPad is fucking great. Oh, you mean the overly-vocal whiney douchebags that have infected this site in the past five years? Oh yeah, it's not for them. But then again, said crowd will be spewing off about whatever the easiest hate target is regardless, so really...who gives a rat's ass what they think? I mean, except them. They really really really care about what they think. We get it.

You know, when the iPad was released a year ago, one of these mindless idiots loudly proclaimed, on this very site, that it was a pointless and doomed product. I responded by asking if, in a year's time, the iPad was actually a huge success, would they at least admit how completely and utterly wrong they were? That dumbass probably has an iPad now.

Get over yourselves people. If you're really nerds, you have way better things to do than bellyaching about consumer products that you think it's "cool to hate on".

He's talking about the knee-jerk Slashtards that twist every discussion into an opportunity to bash whatever company they currently think is uncool. At it's best, /. *can* be a source for reasoned technical discussion and information. At it's worst, /. is a bunch of loser dorks stroking each other about how geeky and elite they are, and how everyone else are sheep and fashion victims. In a sea of that, it's always refreshing to see a calm, well-reasoned post.
