  4. Nice, but not enough on World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Opens Off Northwest England (reuters.com) · · Score: 2

Nice to have as a supplement, to coal, water, nuclear, but, wind/solar is just an ADDED resource, not a REPLACEMENT resource. You have to have some place to STORE the energy created by wind/solar, which is a finite amount of energy. If there is a PEAK demand, and you don't have the SUPPLY capacity, then you have to cut back. With coal/nuclear, you can spin up the generators, to GENERATE more energy on demand. I don't have a problem with wind/solar, but, they cannot be a REPLACEMENT for coal/nuclear.

  8. Grew up in the 60's through 80's era of music. Once tek-no-pop and (c)rap came along, it all turned to crap. I already have either my LP albums, or MP3's of everything I want to listen to, plus we have a 24/7 NO ADS blues/jazz station that is in our area that also streams, so I don't even bother listening to the "radio" anymore for music.

THAT'S your fault. Life isn't easy, and it's even easier the quicker you figure that out. Perhaps you'll have to live in (for you shudder) a non hip trendy place that doesn't even have a starbucks for a few years until you get on your feet. Guess what! Unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you have to climb the ladder of success. But, I'm sure if you Generation M types cry about it long enough, the mommy/daddy federal government will come along, pat you on the head, say there there now, don't you worry about it. We'll forgive those loans and put them on the back of the rest of America. You go and have a good time at starbucks & the trendy night spots.

Granted, Fakebook, twitter et al, are technically a private business, and they can have a TOS as they see fit, but they better watch out banning this or that, or the long arm of the federal government will come down on them and destroy their profitable business. Because, we all know when government gets involved, it turns into a cluster f*ck!

  14. Personally, I do away with ANY electronic ballot. Yeah, paper ones are a PITA, but, can't really be hacked unless someone dumps a ton of them into an election polling place. Also, the purple ink you see some 3rd world countries would be a good idea as well, and if "the fashionable" types wouldn't like that, go with a slightly invisible ink.

  21. They will be sorry on California Moves To Require 100% Clean Electricity by 2045 (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

Wind does not always blow, and I know it is California, and the song says it never rains in California, but sometimes the sun does not shine, like at NIGHT. The problem, even with ramping up storage capacity, is that if the demand, outstrips what people "normally" use, they can't just make the sun shine longer, or the wind to blow harder. With coal, gas, nuclear, hydro power, you can "gen up" to put more power into the grid, when capacity, goes beyond what is available. Here is what may happen to California users. Say it's an unusually hot period of weather, or lots of rain with little wind. The battery storage goes down and the demand for electricity goes up. The utilities of California will have to purchase power from some other location to meet the demand. The cost associated with that, will be passed onto consumers with HIGHER bills. You can hope "clean" all you want, but unless you have storage capacity the size of texas, don't count on it. Placing all your eggs in one basket, could hurt California.

  23. Maybe they are going the Apple route. Hoping a closed off, walled off ecosystem is the best way. Sorry, I've had 3 of their phones. Excellent phones, great battery life. I've never felt the "need" to root any of their phones, but, I had the OPTION. Them taking away the OPTION is not good. Their biggest issue with me is lack of patch updates. I'm not so much concerned about which version of Android is on my device, but I would like to have the monthly security updates. With Huawei, even those can get bogged down unless you live in the Asia area. Now that the USA has pretty much kicked them out, I've moved on to the Essential PH-1 for now, given how dirt cheap it was. Great little phone, got Android 9 the minute I powered it up.

Plus, they build this out in the middle of nowhere, to escape the RFI from towns, and now they are building up the area, and it will screw up the radio receiver. Good thinking!
