  2. It is the ECONOMY on Ask Slashdot: Best Incentives For IT Workers? · · Score: 2

I've been working full time since I was 15. I'm in my 50's now, and have been through down & up economies. I find, that a lot of times, in a down economy, most employers will treat their workers like crap, knowing that if they don't like it, they will probably stay, because it is harder to find a job, but, when the economy is up, some employers will "sweeten the pot" to keep good workers, knowing that they could go somewhere else. Depending on how rough they treat you in a down economy, should help make the decision to leave in an up economy.

Heck, I can't even get techs to read the service manuals sometimes, how are you going to get end users to read them? All of our equipment use to have a place on the back, that held the manuals. I use to say I could slit the plastic wrapper that came on the manuals & drivers, slip a 10 dollar bill into the book, come back a year later & would have a better than 70% chance of finding the 10 dollar bill exactly where I left it! Now, our manuals come on PDF included with the drivers disk, plus a small "basic" book, and they still don't read them, even though with a PDF it is searchable.

Until the entire world stands up to the thugs that have hijacked a religion, to further their own twisted reality of how the world should be. Time & time again, throughout history, thugs have hijacked religions, to try to control how the world lives. This is nothing different. We have a choice. We can bend over, drop our pants and take it up the rear, or, you can stand up to these clowns and push them back into the caves. Until you hurt them to the point they make nice, this kind of garbage will continue. They will continue to take and take and take til their goals are achieved, which would be world subjugation to their idea of religion, and the destruction of Israel. It is up to the world to stand up, or be a slave to them. Thanks to the politically correct movement, it has made their job easier.

  11. let them teach on Chicago Teachers Rip 'Big Money Interest Groups' · · Score: 0

I feel for teachers, I really do. They have to put up with all the red tape, helicopter parents, disrespectful students. But, that being said, no one held a gun to their heads to force them to teach. If someone offered me a 16% raise in THIS economy, I'd take it. Most unions are nothing more than a money funneling scheme to political parties. You don't have a choice where your dues go, other than to line the pockets of the union bosses. Keep going Chicago teachers unions. You'll keep demanding the sky and it will eventually fall on your head. If they want more money, then they should be EVALUATED just like any other employee who wants a raise. Let's see...50% of Chicago students NEVER graduate, and even those that do, some can't even read or write. How about fixing that, then come back and ask for a raise.

  12. It is an EMPLOYERS market on Ask Slashdot: When Does Time Tracking at Work Go Too Far? · · Score: 0

I've been "working" since I was 14. I'm 52 now, and I've been through ups and downs in the economy multiple times. When the economy is in good shape, most companies & small employers will treat their employees somewhat better than they do in a down economy. In a down economy, especially this one, there are MORE available employees, than jobs to assign them to. In other words, you have a glut of employees. When that is the case, like it or not, a business is in business to MAKE MONEY. Labor is a tremendous part of that profit. If you can shed higher paying employees for less, you do it to keep the profit margins higher. In and up economy, the more business you do allows you to keep the higher paying employees. It's "not fair", but, that is how business works. I've seen stories all over the web where people get ticked off how their employers treat them, quit, and start their OWN business. If you think you are shafted, you can go somewhere else. One thing I do is I have a LONG memory. If an employer treats me poorly in a down economy, when the economy comes back, I ask for more money, if I don't get it, I go somewhere else to work.

For the fashion conscience, make it a UV ink that would only show up under that type of light, therefore it wouldn't be seen. In the middle east, and other countries, they use a purple ink.

Waving a magic wand and mandating an entire industry to achieve a certain fuel standard is a good way to kill off an entire industry. 80-100 is about right. You live long enough to see your children (if you have any), grow up and have children of their own. You get to experience a whole LOT of things in your lifetime. I remember when my grandfather passed away at the age of 99 in 1991. Towards the end, he would get mad if someone said "hey you are almost 100 years old". He didn't want to live to 100...he didn't know anyone other than our immediate family. Still as alert as ever, he still walked about 1/2 mile a day from "the old folks home" to "the beer joint" (as he called it) to have a cold beer. I saw him last on Christmas in 1990. Took him back to his place, never thinking that in less than 30 days he would be gone. He willed himself to go. He had seen it all. The turn of the century, airplanes, cars, ww1, ww2, radio, television, man on the moon all within his lifetime. So, using my grandfathers experience, I'd say 80-100 is a hell of a lifetime.

Instead of focusing on 80 year old grandmothers, they should be PROFILING those that want to kill us. But, in our politically correct world, that isn't possible. Two, flying use to be an experience, people would dress up, people would be friendly, kind, but now the seats are so jammed together, it isn't anything more than a bunch of cattle jammed together. Sorry, I don't want to show up at least an hour or more early, strip down, take off my shoes, be groped, fondled etc....just for a 2-3 hour trip. I'll just DRIVE and save the money.
