This isn't the same thing as adsense. These are ads that will be shown in the search engine results on google.com, which they haven't ever done before.

Wow, actually using a slashdot poll for factual information, that takes balls.

No, they're saying that your copy of halo 1 & 2 for the orginal Xbox will run on the 360, only better - keeping you original investment, not buying a new version. Lets see your $500 computer run full screen antialiasing in 720P on your TV :P

Anyone remember the old Gary Larson cartoon? Man talking to dog, bubble above dogs head captioned, "what dogs hear."

This goes to show that all developers do is read slashdot. Now had the poster of this question copied some of the key phrases into google he would have found more answers than the book he was looking for.

  8. GPS Handheld on Measuring Acceleration/Speed for Small Vehicles? · · Score: 2, Informative

Most handheld GPS devices out these days offer this functionality. You can dump raw NMEA data to a PDA/LAPTOP as well if the built-in speed logging isn't sufficient. Take a look around Garmin and Magellan's web sites for a starting point.

Unfortunatly, you can also code to standards and make a completely unsuable site that doesn't scale on any screen and browser. Standards are great, but just because you use them wont make you a usability expert.

You must have *a lot* of drivers! Must be hard to keep those cds up to date. First thing that hits the trash when I buy a new device is the driver disc, followed by me downloading the latest version from the manufacturers website.

  12. allsop on CD Storage Advice? · · Score: 2, Informative

If i support 200 Windows PCs now - am I doing the work of a team who supports 1000-2000 Linux workstations? Seems like Cisco is starting to pinch pennies. The easiest way for a company to make a quick $50k+= is to lay someone off and not replace them. More power to 'em, but i feel sorry for the people who will lose their jobs.

  16. Re:Mac Mini + Firewire Enclosure on Ideas for a Home Grown Network Attached Storage? · · Score: 1

Unfortunatly the mac mini doesn't provide for much expansion. A single memory slot doesn't go very far. The small form factor starts to become a problem when you're attaching a ton of external drives - it makes it a mess. There is also something to be said for the value of hardware based RAID vs Software based. Although cute and cheap, it'll end up costing more later (read: external drives are more expensive).

I say buy a big ass case (its going in the basement afterall) install your favorite distro and have fun.
