Then stop buying stuff for more than just 1 day. That's as bad as the great gas out, where people were gonna stop buying gas for 1 day in the hopes of putting a dent in the oil companies pockets so they'd lower prices. If you're gonna do anything, you have to do it for more than one day for it to make any difference.
The blacks that boycotted the buses back in the day did it for more than just one day. That's why they were successful. That and the majority of bus riders at the time were black is what changed things then. Sorry if this analogy seems a bit off, it's the first one that came to mind and it seems to fit perfectly.
So what he's saying is that the Bond films have to become more like Star Trek. In order to get out of those tight jams, if they want to be AHEAD of the times, instead of using fake things like pellets to breathe underwater, they have to start using teleporters to beam out.
Heh, that should keep the movies ahead of technology for the next century or so:)
"There is no real-world counterpart to a car that shoots with machine guns."
Didn't some country over in the middle-east build a car that could shoot a machine gun or a missile or something? I know they have one (in the middle-east) that had flame throwers that would fire if someone tried to carjack you.
I agree with you. I'll wait for the 3rd party benchmarks as well. I leave that up to the readers to figure out for themselves though. Unlike some other posters, I've never had a problem with any of Nvidia's products. Yes, that includes their Linux drivers. They've always worked flawlessly for me. Their NT drivers seem to not work well, but I blame that on NT since the same driver version worked just fine on 98,98SE, and Win2k. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence should know not to trust the vendors benchmarks without some 3rd party results to back them up.
OMG! Hahaha! I can't believe I got modded as overrated on this! Especially since IT WASN'T EVEN MODDED UP! Stupid moderators! Use your points to move posts up, not down! Of course, I know this is off-topic and now this post shall be modded as such.
All AGP slots that I've ever seen are just under the PS (looking at the computer from the side with the case off). There is usually one PCI slot right under it that anyone who knows anything about video cards leaves free for cooling and because of the IRQ sharing issues. If yours is on the other end of the motherboard, I would say you have a non standard motherboard. The fan on this card will take up the opening where the PCI slot is sitting.
I can't see how many of you think nothing of paying $300+ for the latest and greatest video card, but apparently I'm in the minority (and cheap).
We don't think nothing of it. We're getting a kick ass 3D card that will run for a few years. I've had my GeForce 2 32 MB since about mid 2000 and it still works great. Sure I can't play with all the details turned up, but who cares? The games all still play just fine. We also have a lot of money:)
Regarding finding a cheap card, you should be able to find a GeForce 2 or GeForce 2 MX today for well under $100. Heck, I think you can even find them for under $30. I understand Fry's had them for $29.99 last week (GeForce 2 MX).
That's a sick joke and all the water cooling and liquid nitrogen cooling setups are just the coolest thing in the world?! Give me a break! People want a fast kick ass card in the middle of hell (the inside of your computer case). You're gonna have to cool that screaming card somehow and putting a little heat sink and fan on it is just not gonna do it anymore.
Just like all the fools running water cooling setups so they can overclock their 1.5 GHz machines to 3+ GHz.
If you go to the garage for an oil change, but don't ask how much it costs, you don't get it for free.
I don't know what garage you go to, but every business garage I've been to presents you with the cost up front and has you sign an agreement that you will pay all fees once the job has been completed.
Not only how are you gonna get them to that hole, but how are you gonna dig that hole? I'm sure there's gonna be some fuel expended there too (assuming you're not hiring some kinda cheap labor to do it).
Maybe she should just outright buy any DVD that looks interesting to her then. A friend of mine use to run up $30-50 in late fees due to rentals. Now, he just buys any DVD that he's interested in figuring that it's going to cost him over $20 in late fees anyway.
The "modern myth" is about the only thing that George has been consistent about with the entire trilogy. That, and borrowing a lot from Campbell, at least in the original trilogy.
If you've ever been to the "Star Wars: Magic of Myth" exhibit, it's very plain that the myth portion was pretty much inspired by Campbell. Practically everything in the original trilogy came down to "and like Campbell..." It's the only thing that was consistent throughout the entire original trilogy.
While there is no retaking of the Shire (what we saw in Fellowship is all we'll probably see of it), it has not been confirmed whether Saruman dies at the end of TTT or sometime in ROTK. If you'll remember from the books, the Ents let Saruman leave Orthanc because he didn't seem like he could cause any trouble at that point. There's no reason why PJ couldn't have the Ents kill him as he is, perhaps, trying to escape Orthanc.
From all the news I've been reading on theonering.net, even Christopher Lee doesn't know Saruman's fate at the end of TTT. He has however mentioned a couple of times that "Saruman will be back for ROTK". He has also mentioned that several (as many as 9 I believe) different scenes have been filmed for his death.
In any case, no one will know for sure until December 18th. Unless of course TTT is leaked to the internet before that date (that should keep this post OT).
An intermission was considered but decided against. It was thought that a break in the movie would hurt the flow and pacing of the film. Coincedently, with the cuts, the movie seems to flow much better. Though, from reading the comments around here, that might only be true if you already know the story.
He has 4 electric cars, runs his server on solar power, and then flies around in a GAS POWERED helicopter?! What the heck kind of environmentalist wacko is he?! Doesn't anyone think he should be using something more "environmentally friendly"?
Just last week we were complaining that CEOs are getting paid to much and now slashdot is saying that it's a good thing that they get to give out $25 million worth of bonuses after filing Chapter 11? Like some other posters have already said, we know who's going to get the big bucks out of this bonus, the same executives that drove the company into the ground in the first place.
They must have changed the way they work. I've had my DSL modem plugged into my Linux box since I got the service. Plugged it in to see if it would just work like my cable modem did and it did. Thankfully I didn't have to go through all the mess of setting up the PPPoE software on linux.
So the airport guidance control tower should also be turned off when a plane lands for refueling since it's spewing out RF and bombarding all the planes in the area with it, right? Yeah, I didn't think so.
What I heard, from a Marine a few years ago, was that it's set by the base commander. He followed that up by saying that they usually set it to 18. The point still is: You can fight for your country at 18, but we're not gonna let you drink a beer?!

I heard about this guy on a talk radio show. One of the things this article doesn't tell you is that he was REQUIRED to take those private jets by his health insurance. He had become such an influential man that the health insurance company didn't want to take any risks of him dying in a plane crash/terrorist strike.
Also, from the article:
During his two decades as GE's leader, the company expanded from a $13 billion maker of appliances and light bulbs into a $480 billion industrial conglomerate. It has 313,000 employees in more than 100 countries.
In fact, the article doesn't even suggest that he got more than his fair share. All it says is that it might be PERCEIVED in todays business climate that his 6 year old contract might be excessive. He probably deserved whatever perks he was getting, but at least he's now VOLUNTARILY giving up those perks. How many other CEOs out there could say the same thing?
I lined up with him for Ep1 and Ep2. He's a pretty nice guy. Yes, he made a stupid mistake and he should pay for it. I love Star Wars as much as the next fan, but I would think having a picture of you in your Boba Fett costume with George Lucas would be enough for any huge fan of Star Wars. I guess that wasn't the case. Heck, now that I think about it, that's probably why he didn't get credited in the movie (we were looking for his name in the credits after the movie ended on opening night). It looks like he won't be coming with us to see the Two Towers premiere in December. And now he probably won't be able to line up with us for Episode 3 either. That's a real shame. It was going to be our best line up, especially since it's the last Star Wars movie ever. Oh well, if you're going to break the law, you best be prepared to deal with the consequences.
Because the major corporate customers know that proprietary products screw consumers in the long and possibly short run.
And that's why they're all switching to Linux or *BSD!
Oh, wait.

Apparently he hasn't been to many movies lately.

Actually, Anandtech has a benchmark that was provided by Nvidia showing a 40% increase over ATIs 9700.

Now the prequels are another thing altogether.

I doubt that this will do anything to the interrupts within your computer :)
