do you think that restaurants and many other establishments have permanent installations of soda fountains with MILES of hose running throughout the building if soda corroded it?
It's a great OS sure. So was OS/2. Doesn't mean that Linux users are ALL on a holy crusade.
Free = no money for development (for the most part) and no money = little or no time. Little or no time = "useless apps in various stages of development".
not only that do you think that people care at all about this? Will it affect the 85+% of people that just view the web and the images stored there and have nothing to do with the creation of those images?
Probably not. As long as they can click the porn link and have a picture come up it doesn't matter. Size especially is of little relevance anymore. Broadband = RAM.
Have you listened to Clear Channel stations? Here in MN we have 6 or 7 of the fuckers (basically the entire span of FM). Yesterday I can swear I heard the SAME list of songs in nearly the SAME order at the SAME time that they had just played the day before. I thought I was Bill Murray.
Now, I fucking can't stand Avril or Coldplay or that stupid fucking December 1969 song yet they play it constantly (no, I don't have a choice of stations, I work in a "secure" facility and I get one station.
Now. Clear Channel fucking sucks ass and forces some bullshit on me.
Amazon's clips are in a shit format and sound equally as bad. I am not into Name That Tune so those clips are worthless.
MTV isn't even in my scan. I could give to fucking shits about a studdering, doped out, drunkard. I hear it at the bar all night, I don't need to watch it on TV too.
yeah but that's a different genre of software. IE did very well because they sunk tons of development time and effort into it and because MS basically forced you to use it by including it in every version of Windows AND then "integrating" it into the OS itself.
IIS isn't something that EVERYONE is going to use. It also isn't something that should or could be "integrated" and thus forced on you.
NO. That's not the case. This is INTENTIONAL. They are FORCING you to buy a new upgrade. As far as I am concerned they are REQUIRED to fix what they fucked up in the first place.
MS *refuses* to fix a serious bug in NT4. They did this on purpose. They want you to upgrade and spend the money. This is a GOOD business model for them, not for the consumer.
They are FORCING their users to shell out the money.
I equate this to Ford finding a problem with an older car that causes it to crash. It refuses to fix the problem and wants you to buy a new car.
it's amazing that Slackware hasn't included some sort of automatic update like apt-get or RHN. I feel that it is not a wise descision to not allow users to keep w/the bleeding edge in this day and age of Linux.
I prefer that my system is running the latest and greatest.. Someday, when apt-get isn't broken, and you can easily use CVS X *and* automatically update programs it will be nice.
Please no comments from the Debian policy freaks. It's my system, I should be able to do what I want w/it whether Debian likes it or not.
Not only that, but you have a WIDE range of "reporters" that are giving you informative links, instant updates (from different media sources), and their personal comments.
I prefer the 5:Funny messages on this day (and I normally don't). Any humor is appreciated on a day of war and rain.
BTW, Marine's have crossed into Iraq.

Linksys is mainly (it seems to me) to be a home-use brand. Do you really think that Linksys competes in any way w/Cisco?
No.
Cisco will continue to sell it's business-side stuff AND now home-use stuff as well.
but it is definitly not 2006. I didn't get my PS2 until 12/2001 and I was already quite a bit behind...
2006 will put the PS2 *WAY* behind 2006 graphics and CPU capabilities... While I agree that the games might actually improve (as they did w/the PS1 as the programmers I guess got smarter with what they were able to do w/the machine) they might also degrade as people become uninterested.
A computer lasts about 2 years... Why would a console last 6?
there's another one that has house/offices located near Tontogany, Ohio and also in Toledo. He lives in a LARGE house located in a richer area in the country. Their house is full of expensive toys, computers, LCDs, and furniture. He looks something like Marilyn Manison having a good day. He chain smokes. He doesn't get up till 2 oe 3 in the afternoon. He claims he is completely for "mass mailings". He wants people to believe that his emails are making their day.
I wish I remembered his name.
He is a fucking asshole. Die you spamming fuck.
ok the UK has it, why not BW3 here in the States?

Yay, now just bring it to the States in OUR bars and I will be thrilled.
Ok, this is something I am really sick and tired of hearing... Are you a teacher?
I just spoke w/a group of professors who complained that students aren't willing to learn anymore...
1. School is forced (especially college, which has become a *necessary* extension of High School).
2. Teachers teach passively yet expect students to be active learners. Putting an overhead on the screen or a PPT presentation DOES NOT COUNT as active teaching. It causes people to become uninterested and bored.
Once teachers start teaching actively, students will probably learn actively. Until that time, it is just as much the fault of the educators.
I don't believe in it but I am siding w/the colleges. It's the STUDENT's choice on whether they should use only the SSN. It's not up to the school to decide.
Financial aid still needs SSNs and they are going to be generally stored in the same god damn database as the other information, what the fuck is the difference?
while I cannot *stand* any institution using SSNs for anything not money related (financial aid) it is a near necessity...
I went to BGSU and we had P00 numbers as our student ID (P001123344 for example). While I remember mine from BGSU the college I currently work for has "student IDs" as well but they are not as widely known (most of the foreign students w/o SSNs know theirs but not many others).
So if colleges didn't use them MANY people would have problems getting the info they needed b/c searching through 10000 Michael John Smith's is a pain in the ass.
why not? I find the games of "today" to be mostly boring and uninteresting (ie. GTA3 or FF(x))
Nothing can hold my attention like Ms. Pacman, Tetris, Insane Game, Scrabble, Karateka, Wizardry, random other titles from back in the day.
I have a PS2 but it is mostly good for games like GT1 and 3 (w/the wheel of course), Madden, or Tiger Woods 2k3.
I say try out some of those old games. They are actually entertaining and difficult. I don't find GTA3 particurarly difficult or attention grabbing (hopping from car to car, killing random people).
but plot and fun is what makes a game outlast time.
Wow, I still have my 21 year old Ms. Pacman machine. There's no plot. There's no graphics. Yet it somehow stands the test of time (also the fact that they recently re-released it in conjunction w/another arcade classic).
do you think that restaurants and many other establishments have permanent installations of soda fountains with MILES of hose running throughout the building if soda corroded it?

explain to be how mplayer isn't a "decent" movie player? I haven't had a single problem with it and it plays all the stuff I have thrown at it.
I actually prefer its UI over WMP (although I use WMP only because of the TV-out being easier with Windows)
