Just pick one, if you don't fit in try another. I enjoy Sailing.Since I am poor I can't have my own boat, but the local racing scene always need help. Since then I get to sail once a week from May to October. I also have met a number of great people where you can be invited to hang out and go around being sociable.
for anybody.
1) get your ass off of Slashdot 2) turn your computer off(or just the monitor) 3) pick one 4) go for it, 5) if 4 sucks goto 3 else goto 6 6) have fun. 7) unlearn basic programming from 2 decades ago. Yes it's been that long.
Damn I thought i was filled with miss information.
Apple get's $.10 from each sale. That's 11% for you math wiz's.
Record labels get the bulk of the rest, but that's what they do anyway. It's the Record labels that rip off the artists. independant artists, get the same rate as labels , but take home larger percentage due to the fact they don't pay labels.
Also modern Computers can duplicate recording studios for independant artists. I know of several that use a G4 tower to record and clean up their music, burn the original CD, and then use a cd duplicator to make their own CD's. They then due all the shipping themselves. Distribution via iTunes saves them time, as they don't have to duplicate the music.
Funny every job you said is a service job, not a manufactoring job like software programming. you Build and test software like a factory, not as a service and support.
Open Source would force you to become a service and support company though. So I must thank you for that part.
Also if Open Source sucks why is it that 90% of major internet shutdowns are due to Windows viruses? Open Source componets don't fail, like windows does. They aren't bug free, but serious probelms are taken care of in hours, instead of weeks or months.
Just remember CERT destroyed your arguement when the IIS/IE trojan came out that was stealing bank passwords.
The latest and greatest feature of Mozilla web browsers is that they keep a history of every website you visited. Guess what they are even sorted by day. That means your orignal google search is saved and you can try it again. 2 minutes on broadband to find what you just had.
The armor your refering to isn't electrical, Basically how it works is you put, compression explosives on the outside of the tank. An incoming shell hits the "armor" and explodes. to repair, you hang a new piece of explosive.
The trick is your explosive is desgined to fire away from your tank, Thus protecting the occupents.
The counter for this armor, is a two stage shell, that flies off in mid shell flight, but infront of the shell(think lance ) The early small shell sets off the charge early, letting the large shell to punch on through.

What's really funny is that my roommate has had 100's of viruses on his windows XP machines where I have none.
Just for the record, this is posted from Konqueror. The real internet machine. Linux for networking, winblows for gaming.
While useful it takes bandwidth. Home on an iPod is closer to what I desire, but not quite. I want(yea I know selfish bastard) is basically a removable hard drive, that contians all MY data and Settings. I can walk up to your home computer turn it off, swap drives in 30 seconds, turn it back on and your computer would work behave like, and have all my stuff. I could play my games, use my Software. When finished I power down, swap drives back and your stuff is fine. If I download a virus while using your computer, your stuff isn't effected.
Also if an Ipod like device is used(Firewire 1600?) You could listen to your music on your way home by plugging the unit into your vehicle. While walking around you could listen to your stuff. Think about it. Need a back-up? setup your system with two of these devices
I want to carry a small device(possibly like an iPod, I can listen to my music on it, but it is primarily a portable HD)
I walk up to ANY computer and insert the device. I press a button. The computer loads MY OS setup, and shows my files and settings.
I use the computer as I need to, press a button, and it ejects my device.
To make this work, it would require a new kind of hardware setups. The Hardware would have to have a basic OS setup, and an abstraction layer for hardware. for network settings, various video cards etc. It would then at the press of the button, setup an interface layer with the OS on the device, and boot that OS. It would give full hardware access to all local hardware(cd-roms, usb firewire ports, 3D cards etc.
Apple are you listening? Your the only one who could pull it off.

Really Xbox is a success?? have they turned a profit on it yet? last I knew MS was selling the Xbox for little to no profit and were technically losing money on every machine sold. They may be doing better now that the hardware is older, but the Xbox2 is supposed to be a dual powerPC, how is MS going to sell that for $300 bucks?
Well I did give an example Samba. Also at the time of the virus outbreak the only reason I heard was that it was breaking severs. As for Windows myself I only use ME when I have to. I can't touch WinXP. Of the three times I have used it the system needed to be completely reinstalled twice. Now Linux at perfect, and I can crash it. It just takes more than a few minutes of trying to reset a server.
I don't touch his XP systems and he doesn't touch my linux systems, Now I not an Admin either, neither is he other than our own personal stuff.
Also I almost never lie, I am no good at it, and it can be spotted very easily. So I simply don't. I have discovered well over the years that honesty is the best policy. It sometimes hurts, but it is easier to get out of a tough spot if people know your honest.
Some people can run Windows with out probelms. I can bring down any system with out trying to. Linux, Windows(all), Mac OS. I have yet to try AIX, Solaris or Mac OS X. But all in due time.
Sure just like the last major virus outbreak. The patch was there but you couldn't install it without breaking your non MS apps. Databases, servers, and desktop tools stopped working when the patch was apilied. To top it off it also redid MS networking password file so if you were smart and running Samba on a Linux box for your server, you couldn't apply the patch because you couldn't network any more with your servers.
Now Breaking the Network protcol is something MS can do, but it sucks when security is your priority so your servers are different than the desktops,(meaning a virus can attack one but not the other) Now you can't apply any patches without breaking something useful.
Jeez you know that sounds an awful lot like what oyu can do with the X-window system. You can run a program on a remote server using limited resources? I wonder what the performace of just an X server would be. use the PDA hardware to to load just enough to run the hardware including wireless networking and an X server. use remote login, have a couple of start up options for various screen sizes and input methods. Then if your working on a file ad your battery dies, you can either pick up and login with another unit, or walk over to a hardwired unit and finish up.
Every good idea needs it's own counter argument, the system would be limited to the building battery life may not be that good with wifi. X protocal would need to be better compressed.
Possible today yes. Needs work Yes. Possible 8 years ago yes, but wifi wasn't around.
Y windows isn't finished to a stable point yet. When it is X is gone. At least for me.
No if all your loading is one app across the network you don't need every KDE and X library just the ones needed to load that app. One can run konqueror under any WM. As long as the libraries are present for it. Meaning installed on the hard drive.
Yes OS X is better at almost every point execpt, it' not Network aware, And X windows on top of quartz is a hack. Hell a network aware quartz and Aqua would be every geeks wet dream.
As for installing KDE to run a KDE app well fine, don't use the KDE app. KDE is working on intergration, so is Gnome. It is to make the Distro's more user Friendly. If you don't like it don't use it. I run KDE 3.2 with 128mb and a dozen apps open. Performace does drag, but only barely noticable. I click it works.
XF86 isn't broken, it isn't slow when compiled right either(okay only gentoo does it right all the time). It has several advanced features that no other GUI system uses. Transparent network support at the top of the list. That's right you don't have to load a whole desktop to use one app you can just load the app.
Now XF86 does need updates for the 21 Century. it can use enhancements, and changes to fix the bugs that the developers wouldn't fix.
If anything the XFree86 team is afraid of change, and it cost them. Linux users don't mind change as a large percentage of them are willing to run beta software and help fix it. Change and Linux go hand in hand, most of the people who currently use Linux, can run multiple Kernenl's and mulitple UI's. Something most windows users can't even grasp.
