thats just not possible for many many people, hence the rise of trailer trash. why do people live in trailers? because they can't afford anywhere else.
admittedly i can't use myself as an example, i have jumped from job to job for the last 7 years. i now work for myself, so i can control my own work load.
but i have worked for places that don't give a damn about the pressure they put on their employees. the worst attitude i've seen is "if you can't get the work done you don't go home" which is total bullshit (and i told them so). they honestly thought they could pile unlimited amounts of work on people and they would do it as if there was no increase.
that particular business i worked for them for 1 day, went home and started looking for a new job like crazy. however it still took me 3 months to find something.

are you some kind of fucking college kid living off mum and dad? because thats the only way you could have come up with this crap about not needing a job.
without a job how do you intend on putting a roof over your head and food in your stomach?
the over simplified notion that "if you don't like it don't buy it" is invalid. your forgeting the huge vendor lock in microsoft has on the world. so many apps that personal and business use are windows only. often you have no choice but to buy it or stop using a computer altogether.
the thing that MS are banking on is that it will always be so much pain involved in porting and app to another platform that people will put up with just about anything they do.
the needs to come where the cost of defending your rights in court isn't trumpted by the fact you can't afford it. you can bet your ass if the RIAA found a multi millionare on limewire swapping music the won't proceed, since he won't just fold.
nothing about this is good.
DRM takes all the rights away from the purchaser. thats what it's all about pure and simple. what this kind of thing heralds is a future where unless you pay through the nose to MS they won't allow you to run your software on windows, due to it not having a DRM license.
they will no doubt claim it's to protect you. fuck where have i heard that shit before?
no, what bittorrent needs to implement is some kind of encrypted protection or key for trackers so that any attempt to subvert them is a DMCA violation. turn their own weapon against them.
the idea that if you throw enough money at something you can solve anything is a typically stupid american idea. you don't think companies aren't already throwing billions into the first to have an aids cure and cancer treatments? sick people are big business.
what your susgesting is that if i had all the money in the world i could live forever in a bubble gum house with my umpalomahs carryinging out assinations on world leaders i don't like while i fly around in my rocket car like santa clause.
i beg to differ good sir.
what about then this thing is another 100,000 feet in the air and it's freezing cold and the weight of the cable causes it to stretch. 1000 feet climb is NOTHING. hell there are plenty of existing cable cars that do exactly this same thing. it's a non achievement.
america really is on a slow boat to hell. lets take a look at the stats shall we?
1. the world hates you
2. your government is setting up gestapo style agencies
3. you RE ELECTED BUSH
this is what sun wants of of course it's going to be how they are going to predict the future. sun sells sever hardware, so if everyone ditched desktop pc's tommrow sun wouldn't give a damn. of course they aren't going to do anything but predict things that will help their business. unfortunately for sun their predictions are getting furthur and furthur from reality. i would say a much much more likely future is one where most corperate users take home lap tops and use them to remote connect to work, but hardly a desktop webbased future.
my my you ARE looking at it through rose coloured lenses aren't you. i can't think of any instance where a country sends operatives into another nations borders without pure self intrest. if a US corperation steals the tech of some business in a poor country who is going to go to bat for them in the USA? fuck all is the answer. these operatives are going in in order to try sway local officals infavour of US companys pure and simple.
and you wonder why everyone hates america's guts...
space junk my arse. i suppose you think some governing body should get to say who sends things into space, and i'd be right if i guessed it'd be american dominated, wouldn't i.
named the last time anyone or anything was damaged by this rain of death of you seem to fear from space junk.
your just pissed you don't have the talent to do the same.
besides the fact that the PROCESS of building and using the satellite is a great learning tool, by your logic we only need to ever build one of everything, since we already have ONE why build another.
totally rediculous and i can't believe you got modded informative.
this is where private ventures come in. let them take the risks and develope the tech.
i'm dubious about space evelvators, but hell it's at least possible in theory if you can find materials that will last
it seems every fuckwit out there thinks they can sue and go for the settlment jackpot.
does the authors guild own these copyrights? "massive infringment"? sounds a lot like the vage claims SCO made.
besides, i'm no expert but i do believe partal reproduction IS legal. or am i infringing on something just by using "a" i mean surely it's part of some copyrighted work! while we are at it, if amazon DARE to show a picture of a book they are selling, LETS SUE THEM ITS INFRINGMENT!!!
lets look at this arguements. they sound like they came straight from a MS public relations breif.
innovation - something MS deludes itself as having constantly.
IP - hey have already attempted to attack OSS in a sneaky way by financing SCO.
integrity - obvious that have no idea how an OSS is run, which fits with MS's other clueless statements about OSS over the years.
while i'm sure software giants wet dream is to have the government grant them a state sanctioned monoply "for the good of the nation" style, it's just wishful thinking. after all the antitrust action the states have brought to them, they are hardly in any position to claim that people don't have the right to make something then give it away.
how many of this stupid beos advernews stories do we need. this rubbish about beos being raised from the ashes by zeta has been on twice before. in fact i think maybe they used the same words almost
anyone expecting it to get faster through service packs must have rocks in their head.services pack always (on windows) introduce bloat.
besides, what kind of logic is it to buy something which under performs then hope it gets better with service packs.
absolute power corrupts absolutly. allowing one single entity this level of power over the entire populace is madness.note to self: never move to holland.
it's the ability to turn these devices up so far that it damages the tiny hair like bones that allow us to hear. long term exposure to such high volumes WILL cause hearing damage. it's a fact. responsible companys should but a warning on the display of things like the ipod, stating the volume being selected will cause perminate hearing loss if listened to for x amount of time. it's not alarmist, it's practicle and i think people would listen to it.
people should able to work when and where they want, attempting to prevent us doing so, is slavery essentially.
i certainly agree that you can't allow employee's to steal clients or go to the competition with trade secrets and business intelligence. but a blanket ban on being able to work for anyone else? get real.corperations don't own us, they OWE us.
suggesting a professional forensics team can wipe your hd beyond anyones ability to read it is very poor. if they ARE pro's then they will just say, no, it can't be done. the only safe method of hd disposle is a blow thorch.period.no if's or buts.
people can't sue because i quoted them $100 for a repair and it turns into $200. they can either pay or refuse to pay, simple as that.quotes are subject to change, they aren't a legally binding document. and both of you missed my point. grounding yourself isn't bullshit, grounding STRAPS are bullshit. because to open the case in the first place you have to touch it, and if you can generate enough static to zap a chip in the time between opening the case and touching the card, then i'm very very impressed.
if i were on the other hand handling IC's in a very dry environment prone to static build up, i might be more inclinded to ground myself some how. but those wrist straps that connect to the pc case? give me a break.
