My only experience w/ USB audio is Griffin iMics, which are a little flakey at times, and sound a little tiny on good headphones(compared to either the Live, or my Acoustic Edge).

I do agree that for the most part, dealing w/ osX is easier than linux, but it is terribly buggy, and i think that OS 10 is a misnomer, i would put it closer to ~2.

From my experience, there are alot of small bugs, for instance, w/ setting up permissions, if you set up a users 'capabilities', then go back, it resets them all, so you have to recheck all of the progs that they can use.

There are also issues w/ many printers, for instance fierys have to be setup, then re-setup to run off of 10.2.6. The linux install was pretty straight forward on redhat, and im sure on mandrake a 5yr old could do it.

If i get a mac, it would be multi-boot w/ mandrake and OSX. I will trust OSX in about two more years, if apple survives.(this is to be funny, apple is, and always will be doing crappy financially)

Everybody is saying that nvidia cheats.... Does anyone else remember ATI doing this for years? And the opinions on image quality.. My only experience w/ ATI is the Fire cards, and they suck, the images arnt sharp, not everything renders out(grass in most games), and they have had a burnout rate of 7/50 over the first six months. And from what ive seen from the 9700s, my Geforce2 Ti looks better, granted at a much lower frame rate.

  17. Missed Point on SBC Fights RIAA Over DMCA Subpoenas · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think that many of you are missing one important point, regardless of SBC, or Verizon winning, they are causing enough of a disruption to the RIAA that they will slow down, and it also wastes their money. The more money that they spend in court is less money they have to go after individuals.

If all universities (like in Boston) make it hard for the RIAA to get what they want, they will be a little less likely to go after them.

Unfortunately, that means people may go to some of the larger ISPs like SBC just because of this, and SBC will just gain more market share.

Also remember that SBC is a Texas based corp. They more-likely-than-not have greater political ties to the White House, above and beyond lobbying.

Although I'm not a big fan of SBC's near monopoly over the phone system in much of the country, I think that the RIAA's monopoly over the music industry is far worse.

The best part of Solaris 9 is that it will run all progs for Linux natively w/o recompile. So if you run Solaris x86, you can take progs for x86 Linux distros, and run them.

Many people don't like Solaris because of it not being free, and they don't understand it. Remember, it is probably the most developed *nix. It is far more stable than Linux.

The reason they switched to GNOME is because they wanted to have a common look and feel to the *nix family, and now that they are using it, will probably help develop it to a point where it is as easy to configure as some of the other ones.

I agree with you about M$ windows being good w/ app availability, but you have to consider its purpose, hard-core data processing, and the web. I personally run winXP pro (striped down) and Mandrake 9. I have played w/ Solaris quite a bit, and when I get money, will get a Blade 150 or Blade 2k.
