I dont know your exact experience, but from what ive seen (now im on the outside, and hire) is that average starting for web coders, is about $12/hr, for the same job i was getting $30/hr four years ago.
Im thinking that many of the estimates on this, so far, are more what people wish they were making, or, in many cases w//., what they think they will make when they get out of college (after they get out of HS).
Im not saying that many people here arnt making good $$, im just thinking that a big part, like usualy on/., is BS.
Depending on your area, you may be able to live good on $30K. If your parents are supporting you, keep looking, but if not, aim for $15/hr.
I used to work as a tech at my old college, and one student's comp just wouldnt turn on. After talking, i realized why, since when he hit his computer's power button, it wouldnt go off, just asleep, he assumed that the power was else-where. He had been flipping the 110/220 switch to cycle power.
This computer died after a week into his first semerster. This would be the quarter we were voted onto y! top 10 most wired campuses.
For the SSN, there was an article in the latest 2600 about how to live w/o your ssn.
Living in Chicago, i have the joy of being in a place where the County accessor's office is online(Where the blues bros ended up at the end of the movie, before jail), so you can see photos, and values of any property in the city. They were driving around in unmarked vans photographing your house!!!
Worse than this, the cops have small laptops hooked to a centralized db w/ all available info on you(regardless of if you have commited a crime). So when you get pulled over, they know the color of your house, how much in taxes you pay, and your mother's eye color. ( They demonstrate these so often, it isnt even novel anymore )
But there are benefits, for instance, you can see how bad the crime is in an area before you move there.
I believe a balance can be struck, it just requires thought, something that is in short supply.
That no one creates a standard for ink carts. If you want to make a cart for someones printer, fine, go for it, they all use the same exact cart, just ink quality will be different.
REmember when computer-parts were proprietary, did it help anyone? Did it make them 'better' no, it made them more expensive, and more of a pain in the ass.
But this will never happen, most inkjet companies make most of their $$ off of the ink, not the printer (think the gilette razor blade scheme, or xBox, but w/o the bonus secondary use)
Thats funny, SCO screwed by their biggest contrib.
I know this feature of word has let me find out some interesting things before. You would not believe some of the things people write in their resumes.

50% is still better than Yahoo's filtering scheme.
The problem w/ spam filters is that they are in reaction to spam, so spammers will always have the upper hand.
Like CAN-SPAM, spammers found loop-holes before it even went into effect.
America isnt blameless here either, we keep our rates artificially high, it is better for many businesses.
As much as i dislike Bush(hate really), he has little to w/ the exchange rate, he can ask for it to be changed, but Greenspan is really the one responciple for this.
Even if this was adjusted for, 'they' would still be cheaper, they have cheaper cost of living, and arnt expecting to make $50k. Most software is actually outsourced to Ireland, but 'we' dont complain.../me stopping rant
Most people dont realize that the whole point of those cards is not to save you money, it is for data warhousing. You dont save anything if you have it, your just panalized if you dont.
XP is not a total rewrite, there is still some code in there from win 3.1 and nt 3.51
Longhorn is a rewrite.
You must consider the source when reading articles. This is not a credible source, just some person's site. Im sure they have pondered this, but they supply no sources for their information.
Adding to this, unfortunatly, we have been pushed down onto the list of violators of human rights by the UN.
We have about 175 or so 'enemy combatents' detained in this manner, some US citizens w/ no political affiliations at all that are being detained like this.
Id like to say this is going to end soon, but i think this will become the 'norm' unless we can get a good switch of power (not just bush), if they dont get labeled enemy combatants themselves. (Nothing stops Bush from labeling Dean, and Clark enemy Combatants other than it being a bad PR move).
Unfortunatly spam is VERY profitable, otherwise people wouldnt do it.
I dont know where it was from but there was a stat that something like 15% of people clicked on spams, and 7% bought the stuff in them. These nums probably arnt right, but still.....
The only way to stop spam, it to make it not profitable.
actually those keys + option all do stuff. You have to have admin permission for some though.
I believe they all bring up either control panels, or the ctrl+ key messes w/ sound (for key boards w/o the sound stuff).
Ctrl + open-apple plus those do things like eject, i think, been a while since ive used a mac
CTRL + SHIFT + OPEN-APPLE shuts down or restarts your comp.
sorting 22,000 lesbian porn pics... writing a program to do that is part of my full time job.
(Not kidding, i had to help create a content management system to hold about 50K porn pics, about half of which are lesbian)
I love my job
trackit is an horrible product!!!
I used it at my last job, and it seemed to make more work for us. We ended up going back to paper and white board.
The db is very poorly designed, and the modules to enter it automatically into trackIt is horrible, and rerely if ever works.
Actually we could telnet from our rooms, use vi, and compile on that.
It compiled faster on the Ultra5 than on my p75. I also used it to run our perl, Java, and Assembly stuff.
Sorry about my spelling, sleep deprivation makes my horrible command of the English language even worse.
Actually, I've NEVER heard Aphex Twin on the radio; I'm referring to seeing videos on MTV [2]. I don't consider him really mainstream, but he isn't obscure either. I was only mentioning him because of the references to ugly people.
from Pondexter (yes the evil big brother guy) where he said "in a lot of ways we have the worst of both worlds: no security and no privacy".

yes i realize i am a dumbass and said ./ instead of /.
this server is close to dead, and only 10 min after posting.
Hope they arnt paying for bandwidth.
Worst posting, ever!
Seriously, since when are the stories suposed to be as craptacular as the comments?
Im drunk enough to find the dancing bager-shroom crap funny, yet this does nothing for me.
And worse off, they promised LINUX IN THE TITLE, and all we got was crappy OSX.
If they would have mini-goatsied it to run a cat5 or power cord, that would have been funny as hell.
But nothing... im disapointed...

Maybe im just not getting the point of this. This is generally understood concept when planning a rewrite....

I think i may be the only person who got that... If they were only Naquadah powered....
I think it is funny how 'modern' keyboards are now getting keys like i had on my sun keyboard.

didnt use many of them, but thought it would have been cool if i could have
