Smaller than who? If you mean the Wii or PS3 you are smoking some serious crack. The 360 has unified memory so it can actually dedicate more memory to textures than either of the other consoles.

  2. I can't stop laughing on Blu-ray BD+ Cracked · · Score: 1

The worst thing you can ever do is tell the world how uncrackable your encryption is. Also, I am still bitter at Sony and crew for releasing an unfinished format and using their media muscle to push that premature format so hard that it killed HD-DVD. Every time I watch my HD-DVDs with real PiP extras it irks me.

  3. Re:Cost Justification of PS3 on HD-DVD and the Early Adopter Premium · · Score: 1

It's still $399. It can play some video formats, but not all and you can't load your own CODECs on it. It's not really a fully functional HTPC. As a console it's fine as long as the games are what you want. Some people do not want a strangely shaped game console in their home theater systems. As a BR player it's one of the best options, but it's still $400. If all I want to do it play HD movies I have to pay a minimum of $400 for a future proof player and that sucks no matter how you slice it.

  4. Re:Cost Justification of PS3 on HD-DVD and the Early Adopter Premium · · Score: 1

Okay, I think that was English, but it made no sense at all. What are you talking about? Where can you get a $133 BR player or HTPC or new gaming console?

  5. Also, BR buyers get the shaft as well. on HD-DVD and the Early Adopter Premium · · Score: 1

Because BR was rushed to the shelves to compete with HD-DVD they shipped an incomplete spec. They like to call it 1.0, but really for a next generation media format the only think it did better was the video and audio resolution. HD-DVD at least shipped with a complete next gen experience. So, people that bought and will buy stand alone BR players are going to get screwed if they want to play with all the new features on discs unless they buy a PS3 and not everyone wants a curved surface game player with no standard infrared remote in their home theater rack. Not to mention the confusion that will eventually arise as BonusView and BD Live discs start hitting the shelves and people return them because they can't play all the features because they have a 1.0 or 1.1 player. Lastly, prices of BR players are going to stay high for a long while now. Got used to that sub $200 HD-DVD player idea? Not going to happen with BR until next year because apparently they won't license the tech to Chinese companies that could mass produce cheaper BR units. They want to keep it inflated to maximize profit regardless of how it affects the market because there is no competition. As much as I dislike downloading movies because of the lack of extras and decrease in quality, I am hoping digital distribution catches on. This is a format war that was won by the studios because I really don't think the consumer won.

  6. Re:Is it really that good? on Apple Updates iPhone and iPod Touch · · Score: 1

Style is a preference thing. I've always thought the iPods looked good, but they didn't really knock my socks off. Their interface was pretty slick, but other manufacturers are catching up and passing them in some areas, and integration is fine if you use iTunes which I can't stand because it's a bloated ungainly piece of crap, especially on Windows which is where the majority of their market is.

These types of articles are as useful as "Top Ten" lists. Every console has it's good and bad points and once you throw in preference this all becomes a completely moot point. 11. Re:Superior marketing wins on HD DVD Player Sales Grind To a Halt · · Score: 1

If all you want to do is watch the movie then yes it's useless to you. I loved how they did the PiP on the HD-DVD version of 300 showing before and after shots. I love the idea that commentary can now have video to go with it. Also, the menuing system is faster on current HD-DVD players than BR players, even the PS3. The BD Java is a piece of slow crap.

  12. Re:Superior marketing wins on HD DVD Player Sales Grind To a Halt · · Score: 1

I am a special features addict which is why I chose HD-DVD. I can imagine some people are going to be pissed when they can't play a "BonusView" or "BD Live" disc down the road. Either way this is kind of a tempest in a teapot when you compare HD disc sales to DVD.

  13. Superior marketing wins on HD DVD Player Sales Grind To a Halt · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Once again, an inferior product wins by superior marketing. My HD-DVD player, like all HD-DVD players, supports things like PiP and internet connectivity out of the box. People that own BR players other than the PS3 are hooped because the first generation BR spec was lacking things like secondary decoders. Now with profile 1.1 being out and 2.0 on the way there are going to be consumers that buy movies where they can't actually use some of the special features. The only real technical advantage BR had was storage. Also, Blu Ray already had built in help by the fact the Sony also produces and distributes movies. Doesn't hurt that they put BR in the PS3 and it looks like that paid off for them. I also lay the blame with the HD-DVD group who did an absolutely horrible job of marketing. Since day one if a movie was on Blu Ray it was mentioned in the commercial. BR also seemed to have more in store kiosks.

Hate to be a quibbler, but GarageBand is a toy, not a music studio. Sure you can do basic things with it, but if you are serious why aren't you using Logic all the time? Also, I don't get this fascination with a super portable recording rig if you have to make all kinds of compromises. Maybe if you are the guy in the ads that composes on the beach this is right up your alley, but I use my rack gear and like to listen on decent monitors when I work on audio.

No, it's not. You just haven't heard good digital if you think this. I work in audio and there is no way I'd go back to analog. I use analog for effects at times, but that's about it. Properly recorded digital audio is vastly superior to analog recordings and I can't wait for this myth to die out.

  19. Not this crap again. on Vinyl Gets Its Groove Back · · Score: 2, Informative

No, vinyl records are not better, they are just different. I grew up on the crux of the changeover from records to CDs. I've heard it all. I work in audio professionally. There is an entire spectrum of audio quality regardless of the format. If there is any issue at all it's that people are getting used to and are willing to forgive crappy compression on audio. Properly recorded digital still has warmth, depth, and has a far more "nuanced" sound because it isn't buried under a freaking mechanical noise floor. This resurgence is just another trend that will fade as quick as it started.
