Like most technologies that get books, Drupal does have great online documentation. I think the idea here is that the author can give some sort of expert advice/explanation/whatever that goes above and beyond the online docs.
How about feeding people? Starvation is the root cause of the top five causes of death, worldwide. It kills far, far more people than those two diseases. Combined.
But the problem with starvation isn't a lack of food. It's a lack of distribution. The people who need it the most can't get. There _is_ enough food is the world to properly feed every last human being.

Seriously.
What I would really like to see is national attention that generates the following (changes bolded):
Americans can't trust a rating system that doesn't even disclose how they come to a particular rating. The credit rating agencies and credit card companies should end this game of secrecy...
Or anything else of real importance. This think of the children bs is beginning to piss me off.
"Childhood" as we think of it today is a relatively new concept, brought about by the prosperity of western culture. In most societies, the children work just as the adults in order for survival. There weren't even any kids-style clothes until we were well into the 20th century -- the children used to be dressed just like adults after babyhood.
A good way for encouraging people to come to class is to make attendence required, and record attendence at every lecture. Make it part of the grade. Then, just release the podcast when it's ready. This way the podcast is a resource, and not really connected to people's motivation to attend class or not.
30 Million People live on minimum wage because they are too lazy to do anything else.
Because everyone knows all the minimum wage jobs are the easy ones... Strawberry picking, aspalt laying, etc aren't hard at all
If you want to make more money do better in High School
You should visit some public high schools in poor areas some day. Hard work won't change that drugs are rampant, gangs rule the hallways, and you can't get a real education.
Maybe you should go talk to real people that are poor. Two parents working two full time minimum wage jobs have trouble supporting a family. It may open your eyes that even though hard work can often result in success, for those in impovershied areas, or for those who are born with disadvantages or into a disadvantageous situation, hard work is necessary for survival, and that is often barely achieved.
You're the one that needs to get real and realize that not everyone is born with a bevy of opportunities, and it's not easy to succeed, even with hard work.
To everyone who seems to think this is useless, I think you've missed the point. The summary and headline are perhaps misleading. This seems to be more geared toward owning a copy of the clip or news segment, not a way to get the current news. THe usa today article says
CustomFlix, an Amazon division, allows customers to select from "thousands" of clips dating as far back as 1990
One, he talks briefly about the business decisions behind this, and then spends much of the time about how Apple "feels" about games. I don't think this plays as much of a role as he thinks. Apple is a much more business driven company than this man wants to believe.
Two, take a look at the apple developer's main page, developer.apple.com. The top item for featured content is "Developing Games on Mac OS X...".
2)The record companies gets the feeling that the band/artist/whatever is likely to do this in the future. That's when the career ends.
I don't think either thing you mentioned is the case here. I think that Pearl Jam genuinely wants to get their music out there. Their new record is their first on their new label, and this label seems more supportive of this kind of venture.
PJ releases their own "bootlegs"; they are starting to be compared to the Grateful Dead in many ways. I think this is one of those things that PJ likes doing.
I've seen what happens when you enter a solar race... you get stuck on some island in the middle of the pacific and have to push some stupid button every 108 minutes...
Two reasons that I can think of off the top of my head:
1) Graphics. That $100 playstation (or $400 xbox360) may have ok graphics now, but in a year, when mega videocard 3000 comes out, you can upgrade, still play all your old games, and make all your old games look/play better.
2)Games. There are many game types that don't translate well to the console or just aren't generally made for the console. One example that comes immediately to mind are MMORPGs. The only example that I can think of is FFXI for the PS2. Also, the games that are out for pc and not out (or not as good) for consoles, i.e. doom 3, half-life 2, etc etc.
One cool new feature that Google's start page doesn't seem to have: when you click on a story, you can get a preview in a sort of popup window, without having to leave the site.
Even if this is Microsoft, competition is always good for us as it tends to make everyone improve.
There's a big difference here, though. The gas companies set their prices, and so they make sure that they aren't exploited. The workers at places like wal mart can't form unions, and don't have any bargaining power, so their employer sets their wages, and if the workers don't like it, their only option is to leave.
So, while wal-mart doesn't -and shouldn't- have to pay more than what is fair, they do have an obligation not to unfairly exploit their workers for profit.
Well, that would work for most things.... but there's only going to be 1 Episode 1, 1 Episode 2, and 1 Episode 3. It's not like I can say, "Well, I heard Episdoe 2 was bad, I'll not buy this one and wait for the next Episode 2 to come out."
These things are effing ugly!
You know those "Indian" paintings of wolves that you can get at flea markets and truck stops? It looks like those, but with star wars characters instead of wolves.
Lee Iacocca isn't just some luser on the internet begging for money. He's an industrialist that was at one time the president of Ford and went on to save Chrysler from almost certain failure.
If you read on to the bottom of the wikipedia article:
Following the death of Iacocca's wife from diabetes, he has become an active supporter of research to find a cure for the disease, and has been one of the main patrons of the unorthodox diabetes research of Denise Faustman at Massachusetts General Hospital.
And following that link for Denise Faustman, you'll see that she is noted for transplanting islet cells.
So, I don't think joinlee.org would be such a bad place to donate to.
A few years ago, when gamefaqs announced they were acquired by CNET and later gamespot, I was worried they might begin having "influence" over the site.
I use TGT Soft's Style XP to display different themes, but my main UI addition to XP is YzDock. Its development has been stopped by Apple's legal team the last time I checked, but you can still find it. Basically, it's a dock just like in OSX, and it's incredibly customizable, supporting things like the recycling bin, etc.
It seems to me that people should be worried about Word marking something wrong that isn't, and let people use the grammar checking feature knowing that the English language is too ambiguous sometimes even for a computer to completely understand, and therefore they need to proofread anyway.
Not true. While personally I went to University right after high school, I know plenty of people (at a top ten US university) who took a year off after high school to live in another country. This was one of the most fulfulling experiences of their lives up to this point and it helped them gain a better perspective on themselves and how they interacted with the world around them.
Anyway, that being said, I wouldn't take a year off without having a plan of what to do. Otherwise, like the parent said, you might just end up doing nothing.

The bunker in White Sulphur Springs has the "pos" Green Brier resort above it, and you can take tours of the facility.
