De toute façon moi aussi je peux prétendre parler d'autres langues en plus du français espagnol et anglais mais juste dire trois mot en celle ci ne prouverais pas vraiment que je la "maîtrise".     By the way I am not a communist hippy but a proud owner of two company's and think that honesty and business can go together.

    Depending who take responsibility for the actions of the corporation some companies act better than others, the problem with public companies is that nobody wants to take responsibility for their negatives actions. Stockholders want no responsibility but profit and CEO's claim they have to obey to stockholders.

    If technology keeps developing at the rate it has been, how long will it be before prosthetic limbs become superior to the ones we are born with?

    Genetic discovery is also evolving very fast and I wont be surprise that it will be easier to inject ourselves a DNA enhancer that will augment our muscular performances, boost our immunization and healing capacities, give us some "bath like" radar vision and really enlarge some part of the human body by some 3 to 6 inches. Of course you all understood I was talking about the brain. ;)

    Even if still scary, I think those kind of tweaking are better than to turn people into "Borgs/Robocops/Inspectors Gadgets". Still, I think you point is valid for some enhancement. In my opinion hardware tweaking that could be useful is maybe a brain data port ala Matrix so we can comunicate and learn almost instantly.

    First of all, lots of the money comes mostly from donation and private sector (think Paul Allan) then SETI@home project is done by volunteers that give their CPU time for free. They decided to support this project because it give them hope that some day we will be more than an isolated specie killing each other for resources on a small rock turning around the sun. If someone tells me that I must live without dreams and only occupy my time with practical URGENT matters I prefer die right now. Asking the world to do the same is equivalent.

    In my opinion football, baseball, basket ball and rap music are a much bigger waste of human resources and money than researching for the most important discovery of human kind. But many people will disagree with me because sports and entertainment makes them dream and keep them going in life and I respect that.

    Our world must have a balanced strategy and the amount of resources used on SETI are insignificant compare to what we spend on War, Entertainment and Everyday Comforts. Think to cut on those before touching a penny of SETI.

    Let's say for a moment it is confirmed that the thing will hit. Then we will have to determine where its going to hit. We know that damages will only be localized so if it is calculated that the asteroid will fall on an area populated by not so industrialized countries I am really curious how the world will react.

    Do powerful countries will prefer to do nothing to avert making a mistake that could possibly send the asteroid on their head?

    What could possibly do a small country in africa if nobody wants to help them?

    I worked for a cell phone company (GSM) and I once visited the main network control room and the operators showed me a software that allowed them to triangulate the position of any of their costumer by simply using the antennas of the network.

    Also if I wanted to log the speed of a car when someone is using it, I'll think of a better idea. I'll hide a training/running watch with GPS in the trunk; Nobody can turn it off, no monthly subscription, you will be able to export the data on a computer and you will be the only one who can access the data.

    There is a difference between having spiritual beliefs and being a fundamentalist zealot. The contributions of Christians to not only the rise of Science but also of society as we know it (schools, hospitals, libraries) is undeniable. Still, there was always a part of that same organisation that was trying to stop and sabotage the work of the great people you named. Like everywhere in society the church is composed of people with progressive tendencies and people with fundamentalist ones and the ones making all the trouble are the fundamentalists.

    Please stop censuring those technologies that you did not contribute to create, in fact why don't you simply stop using them at all and go communicate though bushes on fire or something else you believe in?

    I always liked Roger Moore's James Bond. Much more than the following Bonds. He was the total macho with a cool and withy attitude, not unlike Indiana Jones. I won't be surprise to hear some day that Roger Moore James Bond was an inspiration for Indiana Jones character.

    The Brosnan and Dalton Bonds weren't funny or charismatic enough in my opinion and never convinced me as real womanizers. Their character seams even sometimes depressed. Jee what a bunch of wimps!!! ;)

    Now that you are on the subject I saw an interesting article about that. Just after the French revolution, the French government decided to put everything in metric. Not only the distances but also the time and the days of the week and time was then calculate by something factor of 10.

    What made it fail is not only that it was a total pain in the ass to change every clock and calendars and get use to it but also that weeks were now lasting 10 day but still with only 2 days of weekends and workers were really pissed off about that. They were almost about to start another revolution so the French government decided to drop the metric system on time and dates.

    Oh yea and also about my "civilized" comment: It was meant to be told with a wink, so please to the ones that are taking that personally I say go buy yourself a sense of humor somewhere, jee I didn't know that people where now so touchy about something so meaningless and futile.

    The guy DID went to see many doctors many times and he is not doing this to play doctor. Because previous doctors weren't able to put the finger on what he have so he decided to write an account of his symptoms on the web and then, if someone can point to what he have he will go to see a specialist about that. He is also suspicious about a condition called "Actinomycosis" and because it's a rare infection he want to reach as many specialists to help him take a decisions on what doctor he should go to see. Going to the ER will do nothing for him, he already did it many times so people, please RTFA and stop commenting stupid stuff.
