I think it's great that SD/MMC has taken hold as a "standard" of sorts. CF was once the king, but is too big by today's standards. SDMMC is good because it's not TOO small (i.e., I'd expect my own mother to lose a microSD card but not an SD card), and it has a wide range of applications like SDIO cards for wi-fi and other uses. And, the adapters for micro/miniSD make sense too.
Now, if only they can convince Sony to at least stop making their OWN formats obsolete...
Good god, not Atic. GST evasion, they sell refurbs without telling you, and they install cracked windows on to new systems and charge people $50 for it.
See, what you may not understand is that the very concept of a command line SCARES the normal win user. Dell won't ship many systems with Ubuntu on it. Dell won't be bad for Ubuntu - Ubuntu will be bad for Dell. They know this though. They are just paying lip service to Linux fans everywhere. Truth be told, Dells are not going to be purchased by Linux users. And even at that, they are smart enough that they won't want Dell installing Ubuntu for them even if they do buy a Dell (god help them if they do).
Perhaps my views of Linux do deserve an updating, but honestly the whole apt-get thing is just a band-aid. There is still command line work required, something that isn't normally required in Windows unless things seriously go sideways.
The only operating system that has ever worked for me is MacOS X. I've never had to reformat due to OS corruption. It's secure, has millions of dollars in R&D behind it, and functions as a day-to-day low maintenance system to boot. Yes, I know it's a nix, but it's still a hell of a lot better than Linux.
One thing I want to know - If Ubuntu wants to be taken seriously, why don't they give their products professional names, rather than "Feisty Fawn"... Something not seemingly right out of a Warner Brothers cartoon, perhaps.
Ahh you Linux users just *wait* all day for people like me to make a comment like I did. Hah, so easy to get a rise out of you people, yet so easy to put you back in your place.
Just cause some 15 year old wannabe hacker can install Ubuntu doesn't make it accessible to everyone. There are people I know who can't install MacOS, and that's pretty sad if you can't do that.
What I wonder is, why is everyone using Ubuntu these days? Perhaps I've missed out, maybe Ubuntu is the distro that takes all of the BS out of Linux and makes it easy to use. It's been a hell of a long time coming - and should have come years ago - if that is the case.
By the way, you Brits really pay out the a$$ for software if you're shelling out $80 for a program I could buy for $30.
Try explaining that to your grandmother over the phone.
It might be impossible in Win but frankly I'd take the inability, over having to spew out lines of commands.
Dell will NOT sell systems with Linux on them. When ordering, Grandpa Joe will ask "what's a Linux". The Dell rep will reply "well, it's this different operating system". And grandpa joe says "what's an operating system".
I have tried Linux recently. Ubuntu seems to be the only distro anyone is using these days. You do know that they had to implement those app downloaders simply because programs were a bitch to install?
Folks, let's just step back for a second. I have never paid the levy on media here in Canada. Why? Because the retailers I buy it from refuse to pay it. Go shop at your local little computer store, or even at London Drugs, where they do not pay the levy and refuse to do so, simply because of this reason!
The levy exists, but to my knowledge only fools are charging their customers the levy, and only fools are paying it.
Linux. Still. Sucks.
Now bring on the flames.
Sorry, but Linux will ALWAYS be beyond the average user. I've been in IT and have avoided Linux for years, even in my own personal systems. Why? It frustrates me. Not because I am stupid, as Linux users would say, but because I find it to be unnecessarily complicated. The lack of simple installer packages is one thing that could be changed. It would not only let basic users actually do things, it would just take the stress out of Linux in general.
Of course, Linux users don't want mom and pop and Joe users to use the system. They just want Linux to be popular.
In all ads I've seen, they are branded as ThinkPad brand laptops, and the only mention of Lenovo is in the fine print. People are still calling them IBM because, well, it's the same design.
Considering we had power issues with a system we built at work (DUAL 7800GTX, dualcore Athlon 64, 3 hard drives, 2 optical, etc etc etc), i would think a thousand watt power supply isnt such a bad idea!!
Well, I have read up on it, a couple years back when a car like that was posted on/.
Diesel in general is far far better than gas, you get more for your money. Look at Europe, they use far more diesel cars than in North America. however, we prefer power over efficiency and environmental stability. Happy frying!;)

And now they;ve just told us that an image of said power plant is online, please raise your hand if you knew of this top secret information before and havent actually gone now and googled it now that it is news.
The union had their chance to accept a fair pay increase from Telus, they really are making such a huge fuss of all this, like any union does. I for one really don't like unions and didnt even really support anything when i was a member of the UFCW working for Safeway... they just seem to indoctrinate and bite the hand that feeds them, so to speak.
Well, I don't know what you're on, but MY readings say close to 80% of comparative statistics are in opposition to each other, while about 20% of all statistics continue to be made up. How about that eh?
i make $9/hr canadian where i work fixing computers, and we charge $70 an hour for service. it's not the best, but that is basically what my time is worth, the work is easy.
Can someone tell me how he got the touch wheel part to be sensitive? I was under the impression that you needed a bare finger or at least something electrostatic-ey to be able to use the scroll function... the buttons i see working, but the scroll is NEEDED to use the iPod!

Buy the $1200 Monster Cable with solid mahogany plated connectors and heavy guage bark wire shielding, and you've got yourself an incredible sounding device.
Well, I wasn't even talking about particular segments, just the most common format. Which tends to validate my statement.

So wait.... we have to kill Bill and Melinda to speed up the process??

After seeing their ripoff image use, I call BS also.
