Two friends of mine in high school messed about with the Novell network, giving themselves admin rights, etc etc etc. They were punished for it - their argument? They were conducting a security report for the school, which of course they were going to notify the school about AFTER the fact. I told them, if you want to help, TELL them you are going to break in, then tell the admins how you did it after the fact.
"And now, here is the section of the ECS factory where we add a mysterious defect to one out of every three boards, just to keep QA on their toes. Oh, it looks like they are on lunch break....."
What I want to ask is, with such valuable data, why didn't they just pay someone $500 and fly them to the destination, and have them carry it in their carryon luggage? Humans are more reliable than UPS.
It feels to me like Apple software and hardware have always been emulating each other. First we had a bojangled system of PPCs emulating 680x0 code, then we had more and more OSes that still allowed that code, then we had OSX, which emulated OS9, then we had 64-bit CPUs, which sort of emulate 32bit things with the OS, now we're going to have a whole new slew of CPUs that emulate code designed to run on PPC cpus!!! Make up your mind Apple. PCs have survived for so long because there has been a basic unified architecture allowing code from all generations run on all CPUs, provided the software is right. I can go and install windows 3.1 on my brand new PC, but i can't go install system 7 on my brand new Mac. This is why businesses have stuck with PCS - banks for example, who spent millions on expensive dos-based terminal and account systems have been able to upgrade for years while still keeping their rock-solid systems in place, because the CODE STILL RUNS! If apple had decided on a 64 bit system years ago, and built on that (it would have been expensive but possible), they would be the dominant force in the galaxy.
Well, the benchmarks show that AMD CPUs are better than Intel chips, so why not go even one better and use AMD chips in Apple systems. They are almost the same anyway!
Heh, he hasn't read it because he's working down the road from my house, filming/producing/acting in a movie. The signs say "Antonio". BY THE WAY Is it just me or can nobody see the stupid letters behind the evil black lines on the "type the random text shown here" image?
They need to make it just like the existing PS2 controllers, except with a litttttle bit bigger grips to it, like the xbox. Frankly a white controller makes no sense either. In any case, I'm SURE either sony will re-design this new controller to suit the demands of us users, OR a 3rd party will manufacture a controller that looks like the current ones we know and love.
I don't understand why some of these features don't make it to Google Canada as well. I know the US is the US, but Canada isnt that much different (same movie premieres, same movies, etc etc etc) So why not have a simple version of this on Google.ca, maybe it will link up with the TWO (yes, count them) movie chains in Canada and tell us the showtimes:D
This makes me think of the old attempted "iTools Riots" of '02 or whenever it was that they switched to.mac crap. I know having a mac.com email was free advertising for users, and I know that they were loyal, but there are terms of service after all.
What's next - hacking notepad? There are too many of these books. It seems every time a geek chic app comes out Pogue or an Oreilly hack (pun intended) comes out with a book loaded full of features such as "press enter to submit a form" and "clicking the X will close the window far better than file->close. What a hack!" There is only so much you can know about one application or one device, i.e. iPod books. (or any mac book for that matter, totally useless due to the inherent ease of use of the OS. any power user using macos doesnt need a book to tell them how to telnet!)
There is only one market group concering windows - everyone. That's the way it's been for a very long time and until someone comes up with a similar non-linux alternative and markets it appropriately, then we're all screwed (and i say non linux specifically because linux now confuses and intimidates some home users)..
Aaaaand Cue large argument of some kind about *nix vs. windows vs. a llama
Consumers won't buy a 15 gig iPod if they know a 20 gig with more features will be on sale for the same price next month.
Well, this happens ALL the time, and i'd rather see the newer model for $1.00 more expensive and with more features, than seeing the new model at the same price with more features. Of course, one of the features added to the 4G iPods was later (at least 9 months) added to 3G iPods. (The feature i speak of is the "Shuffle" option in the menu.)
However, you do have a point. I need a new iPod and a new Cell, and now that I have found out Apple and Mot are designing a new phonepod thing, I'm holding off buying a Razr and a Shuffle! If it turns out to be a crap device (which IS possible), then I will still have the other two separate devices to fall back on to:D
Why not just have the phone be able to plug in to a shuffle, or something. phones do NOT need to play MP3s, as far as I'm concerned. It'd be stupid - you are listening to a song then all of a sudden the phone rings and your song ends and you're thrown in to a conversation. the iPod is great. Cell phones are great. But maybe Apple should just design a cell phone, rather than designing a music player cell phone. Apple reinvented the personal computer, the portable music player, and now they have to re-invent the cell phone.
This is why I use Acrobat 5. No bloated features, but still lots of functionality. Does anyone else love the fact that Mac OS X can produce PDFs without having to install ANY Adobe products?
I love how Google still reports on itself. The irony would be if the linked article was in fact an AFP article, with AFP pictures of their headquarters!
While I do agree with you (I hate that intro song, and it made my day when I heard Herbie Hancock play it LIVE in Detroit last month, and with just a piano too), some Canadian content actually is good. Avril seems to have been accepted as common pop crap, and many many of our actors have made you laugh over the years - what would you do without Mike Myers, Dan Aykroyd, and Jim Carrey... and uh... Keanu Reeves...
Melting happens when you open the Ark of the Covenant. It's pretty cool and liquefies your skin first.

Come on people, he's a muppet! Of course he's a little senile and self centred. They all are.........
$1 each? I'M RICH!

I was under the impression that the Prius virus/crashing was a hoax??
This article has far too many strange australian foods for us junk-eating north americans to understand!

... With the Detroit Tigers and Tiger Balm coming with reinforcements later.
No no, in Soviet Russia, planet lands on you!

I for one welcome our new insect overlord. Oh wait, it's a man. Just a man with lots of plastic and no singing ability.
