- Poor backward compatilibity with PS1 and PS2 games
- Numerous high def upscaling issues including PS3 BluRay movies not appearing in high definition properly
Both of which are most likely fixable through firmware upgrades. Especially the compatibility which is supposed to be fixed in short order.
- Poor graphics on side to side game comparison tests
- Poor framerates and "tearing" reported on multiple game titles, including Tony Hawk and Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
I say this a lot. Maybe I should make it my sig. Launch titles suck. Always. It's a fact of life. These games are not representative of the system. Play Kileak for the PS1 and Evergrace for the PS2 and get back to me.
- Poor buggy development tools which make development very hard as compared to other current gen systems
- Multiple launch titles cancelled or delayed due to development issues
When the PS2 was in development the developers of Oddworld were working on the third game for the PS2 when they suddenly announced that they were switching to an XBox exclusive because the PS2 was too hard to code for. This of course sent the game media into a frenzy. And look at where we are now.
And finally the losses-per-system articles all use fuzzy numbers. Many of these devices are patented and manufactured by Sony themselves and nobody outside of Sony knows exactly how much it costs Sony to manufacture said device. Microsoft on the other hand mainly assembles their systems based on parts that they have to buy. I'm not saying the 360 costs more to build than the PS3, I am merely saying that you me and whoever iSuppli are don't know how much they really DO cost.
Me, I'm going to play the waiting game to see who comes out on top. But while Sony certainly has screwed this up I don't see any real indicators yet that they are going to lose.
Right. And if the president of the company you work for tacks a memo on the message board telling you not to do something, what do YOU do? Clear Channel was never about playing what people wanted to listen to, it was all about dictating what people were able to hear through a commercially and politically motivated ideology. And I doubt that will change just because the evil changed hands.
Well, at least NVidia is accepting the blame for this one. I still don't think they admitted the 7900 fiasco was their fault(which it was). My next video card is going to be ATI. Kick-ass forceware or not, I can't trust these people anymore.
No. eVGA was not the problem with the 7900s and it doesn't look like they're the problem now. All of the companies had problems with their 7900GTs. And when my 7900GT croaked eVGA cross-shipped and paid all the shipping both ways. And overnighted the new card. So eVGA got themselves on my good side. NVidia on the other hand can kiss my ass.
...the newspapers tried to get away with half-assed research and now they're trying to get away with none at all? Really, will they pay this 'crowd' anything?
Oh, but once the Republicans finally get rid of those liberal activist judges we won't have to worry about silly things like judicial precedent now will we?
I've purchased some asian pop DVDs from YesAsia and they're pretty good, especially if you can snag one of their free shipping deals. They're kind of a one stop shopping place for Japanese, Chinese and Korean CDs, DVDs and games.

$600 for a gaming console = insane
$1000 for a Blu-Ray player = insane
Oh, wait. You said I wasn't supposed to do that. Sorry. My bad.
Maybe I'll go out and market a new video disc that has players at $10000 so that when I release my game console at $5000 people will think they're getting a deal...
It matters. Indirectly it matters a lot. The question you have to ask yourself is why is this happening. Does Sony have a good reason for this insane power consumption? Maybe. I can't think of one. Nobody in this thread seems to have been able to think of one. So does that lead us to the thought of bad hardware design? If so, what else is poorly designed?
If this route actually does lead to securing Windows, kudos to them. Hats off to them. And it's just too bad for Symantec if it means the OS is more secure. The problem is that I don't see that happening. I disagree with you when you say Microsoft is attempting to address his point 1. It seems to me that Microsoft is attempting to make it LOOK like they are addressing his point 1. The fact that the security monitoring companies are already finding flaws in an OS that's supposed to ship in a month is a very bad sign.
Though Amigas were made by Commodore the names aren't exactly the same. Amiga was a hardware company bought by Commodore. And the history was basically this: Amiga = smart, Commodore = Stupid. Amiga was making great hardware and Commodore was completely inept at marketing it and selling it. So both of the paragraphs of the original post are completely applicable.
So it IS the same Digital Illusions. I was about to ask that. There was persistent rumor back in the day that they were also former members of The Silents too, but I was never able to confirm that.
Nods to the 2 people who actually know what I'm going on about.
Intelligent Design makes no attempt to prove it's truthfulness. It relies on faith. String Theory may not be provable today or tomorrow, but scientists are trying. They want it to be proven.
The PS2 was primarily just a graphical upgrade to the PS1. The controller is the same. Can you honestly claim that PS2 games play just like old PS1 games? Of course not. Innovation in games will take place on the PS3. And Nintendo's new controller does not inherently guarantee innovation any more than Sony's tilt function.
And any console shortage is temporary. 360s were so rare for a while it was laughable. Now my local walmart has them everywhere. The same will be true of the PS3. There will be a shortage at first. Then the shortage will go away.
Lastly, unless you're a temporal fugitive from the year 2008, you don't know how successful Blu-Ray or HD-DVD is going to be. Period.

The really sad thing is...I'd probably buy that.
Nuts to that. I'll just wait for Banjo Hero to come out.
I wouldn't go that far. The Madison, WI Air America affiliate is a Clear Channel station.

Neanderthals, eh? I think I dated one of those once...

You mean the Nintendo with the proprietary ATI chip? OK.

White programmer needs Dew badly.
I'm sure the Sci-Fi Original Movie is already in production.

Well, opera is considered 'highbrow' music, but it is still considered entertainment.
