XP - laughable, a considerable step backwards, eye candy for the easily deceived coupled with rampant instability.
My computer running XP is regularly up for days at a time, and my file server running XP has been up for 3 weeks. XP is stable. If XP crashes running YouTube videos there is something wrong with your computer. Period.
In all fairness those entries in the list probably mean something like, "Publisher/Developer X has order devkits for game Y. Y has no title and X doesn't want to be named, so here you go."
Looks like they're really the same thing. And the summary is wrong. Redmond isn't forcing anything. If you want to have the GFW brand on your package you have to follow a set of rules, just like Designed For Windows 95. And I can still release a game for the PC that is whatever I want rules be damned. I won't get the GFW banner but MS can't stop me from releasing my game.
I know it sucks, but as a web developer I can tell you this: Microsoft has won this war. If you don't code your site to work in IE you lose your job. It doesn't matter if it's 100% standards complaint. The people in suits don't care about that. You code for IE. Period. I personally make sure my site works in Firefox because that's easy enough to do and FF is popular. Opera? Most of my sites do seem to work in Opera but that's because I know what I'm doing, not because I care about Opera. Sorry. Safari? I don't have a Mac to test with. You're on your own. Sorry. Konqueror? Use Firefox. Sorry.
In a world where the vast, VAST majority of the market share is taken up by one browser and you've got deadlines to meet, you do what you can. I know it sucks.
I understand they want more people back on ham radio, but what will the old-timers think of these code-less noobs invading their clique? And, no offense, but will anyone new care?
1) Isn't success in Nerdcore self-defeating? Isn't the whole point that they're just a bunch of geeks with Acid and a mic? If one got signed by a major label would he really be nerdcore anymore?
2) While there are talented rappers in the mix, most of this stuff is terrible. Absolutely, unbeleivably horrible. And the ones that are good are usually only good because they're funny. How can that be considered legitimate?
Actually, Weird Al has made himself quite a living doing novelty songs, most of which are NOT rap. Remember Eat It? Sounds Like Nirvana? Not rap. If Weird Al had premiered with All About the Pentiums, would he be where he is now?
I read somewhere that some consider hydrogen to be sort of a liquid battery. It costs energy to make it so it's really just a transference mechanism between the source of the energy and your car. The benefit is this, though: That source does not have to be oil. It can be anything. Wind, nuclear, squirrels in hamster wheels, anything. It will not solve our long-term energy problems, but it could help relieve our dependence on foreign oil.
Editing has always been a major part of most recorded music. It's just that with "today's" recorded music editing has become more sophisticated. The problem with music right now lies not with the editing, but with the source material.
In case you haven't realized it yet, not everything posted on/. is earth-shattering news. This video was neat. I enjoyed watching it. I bet he enjoyed making it. All is well with the world. Relax.
So if I see a truck driving around taking pictures I will try to look as sexy as I can. So if you see the fat computer nerd trying to look sexy in the next beta of this thing - that was me.
To me it isn't about how many bytes the game is or how long it took to make it. It's all about how fun the game is. If you had fun with the little 3K Odyssey 2 game, then it may have been worth $50 to you. Some games are worth $50 today. Many are not.
If I dine at a fine restaurant I expect fine food. If I go to McDonald's I expect a Big Mac. I consider this OK. You know why? McDonald's is cheaper than the $50 a plate restaurant. EA's mediocre games are still $50, now even $60. EA's games(and, to be fair, games in general) are deteriorating in quality while increasing in price. This is bad.
I think it depends on the title. Sony would be foolish not to release the rare, collectible PS1 games for the PSP. After all, Sony doesn't have to mint more disks, they just have to encode it in their format and do some testing. Near-free money.
I'm following the train to off-topic-ville here, but I have to say this:
1) I've gotten some bizarre moderation on my posts too. The key is to not care. This is only slashdot.
2) The editors aren't doing anything? I disagree. They did do something. They created moderation and metamoderation. You said yourself you just righted some moderation wrongs. So it all works out, then, doesn't it? If the system doesn't work out for your posts in specific, see point #1.
3) You did just make a post about welfare in a thread about console sales. IMO you probably deserved to be modded down. Perhaps Offtopic and not Troll, but still...In fact, I am perfectly prepare to accept an Off-Topic for this post I'm making now. 'Cause it is.
But...they didn't invent it. That's the problem. They learned it from their parents who learned it from their parents. Languages are not created. They evolve. Nobody can own one.

Of course they can't release the hardware now. They can't release it until AmigaOS 5 has been announced, you see.
Who cares? Does anyone still have any of his CDs anyway?

"Designed for Windows XP"
"Games for Windows."

And let's not forget the mass-extinction event of the Polyestrian era in the late 20th century.

No, it's not wireless, which may be the plaintiff's whole spin, but still...
And in case your wondering, I actually owned one of these and it was as hideous as it looks.
Yeah, they taught me in school that latex was a good way to guard from viruses.

Yes, the North Korean middle class will be hit hard by this and I assume they'll both be pretty pissed.
Really? Let's try.
companyCanDoNoEvil("Sony");
COMPILER ERROR
Hmm. Ok. How about this?
companyCanDoNoEvil("SCO");
MASSIVE ERROR. MELTED PROCESSOR DETECTED.
Looks like these people need tin foil hats on more levels than one.

This is not a worry. Most of the big-name RPGs are Japanese and with the sales of the 360 in Japan I don't think Sony has much to worry about there.
