But I have decided that I should keep my ideas with me and take my own small inovations to the grave. This patent thing seems to be designed so that spending all my time on the bench = guarantee that any money I make will automatically be forfiet to some patent holder I never heard off. I'm sorry if I sound like a defeatest but I don't see any incentive. Excuse me while I go burn all my research.
I notice that after my post there are several saying that people are not interested in gay characters.
This is not what I meant by cultural crimes of Hollywood.
I enjoy gay characters in movies. They add another perspective. They are restrained and concientious.
The cultural crimes of Hollywood became most evident with E.T. and have grown worse and more evident with time. Notice there were no visible gay characters in that movie.
I don't really want anyone to see it. At least no one of the non-nerd camp. Hollywood insiders who read slashdot can get stuffed.
Movie theaters have been dying ever since cell phones came out. Decades ago, this began. The only reason we went to pay homage to the Lord of the Rings is to show Theater owners what they _could_ have had as an audience a long long time ago. Now that the financial message has been delivered, we are done with them.
Kaput, finished, over.
I refuse to say why, or what Hollywood's specific cultural crimes are.
I agree with this take on it, that "we already have equitable tiered service".
While I am repulsed and fear the end of free information/access; need I remind slashdot readers that the Supream Court of the US has alread ruled that Cable Companies providing Internet are not common carriers, but are in fact Information service providers.
As to the Idea that Amazon, or Google can do anything about this, I have yet to hear anyone come out and say they are specifically against "platinum," "gold" and "silver" levels of Internet access.
The age of the wild west is over. Barbed wire has been invented. We inter the age of the Cattle baron.
This is a huge mistake on your part.
I read this news article to mean "If we, the open source community, were to represent ourselves as one entity Microsoft would be glad to do buisness with us."
Did you even read the article?
I canceled my phone service with bellsouth 11 years ago. I have never looked back. Their predatory billing practices, and customer abuse are inexcusable.
High speed cable connections are the way to go. Free phone calls all over the world. I can talk to my Mom in Amsterdam from Baton Rouge as long as I want. I don't understand why anyone is still paying Bellsouth for anything.
Some facts. The 4 restaurants that are open north of Biloxi close at 8:00pm. Most people have to get home before a curfew somewhere. After a long day you will be hungry and hot food may be impossible to find.
Walmart and Gamestop are sold out of PS2. Gamecubes and x-box are still on the shelves. But every day angry parents with bored children line up to get a PS2. You could make a truckload of money with a trailer of PS2's.
The vast majority of people either want a new job so they can move outta state, or the schools to magically be rebuilt overnight. Beware the increase in beer drinking, and high school kids turned hippy. Also daytime trafic is either stop and go, or blindingly fast and aggressive like the wild west.
Police at curfew road blocks are armed, and will either turn you away or bring you to jail. Some good id and documentation is a must after curfew. Beleive me, talking doesn't work. The have heard it all by now.
Your saying that anyone can invalidate the GPL by adding proprietary code to it, and then releasing the extended code to the public. Wait a couple of years. Then sue because the GPL is protecting the unliscened distribution a few lines of code?

When ever they snap like this it's becuase the video games are not violent enough. They almost provide enough release but fail. These kids played a web browser RPG not a 3D MMOG. The Columbine kids had made a doom2 mod of their school, but quake 2 had been out for a quite while.
In both cases I think if these kids had had just a little bit of encouragement in their games, and had been able to keep up, they wouldn't have opted to pull the roof down on their own heads.
Many of the concepts still exist. Just in newly rendered form. In that sense only the old technology is dying. Not the concept.
10: Space Shooters
Star Fleet Battles. X-wing vs. Tie Fighter.
9: Puzzle
Myst, Snood
8: Light Shooter
I can't even count all the shooter games out there. And getting rid of the plastic gun that you plug into your controller port is a good thing.
7: Text Adventure
This is a key element to Quake, Half Life, Tribes, and other 3D shooters in multiplayer. Everyone has seen the sentence "so-and-so rides what's-his-name's rocket."
6: Maze
Doom. After 665 levels, I just couldn't stand another maze. Enough already, please make the first twenty levels a little more re-useable.
5: Virtual Reality
Uh, any 3D game. Just without the head-ache inducing head gear or googles.
4: Educational
Who ever wrote this article must not have children. There are tons of educational games out there. The worst of which is not the Barbie series.
3: Full Motion Video
Blizzard, has tons of cut scenes in their games. But they have figured out that game play is more important. Cut scenes should be used sparingly like spice in food.

I trust that my rant is no longer hijacked.

Will my AT&T "platinum," "gold" and "silver" levels of Internet access provide access to this underground market ?

Now the guys who picked on me are geeks too?

Myst, again.
