"Flawlessness" is unattainable. No intelligent design team would aim for it. But reasonable security via a reasonable effort is certainly attainable. UNIX is proof.
please, let's not start THAT old discussion here, as if the evolution team makes such flawless products;-)
1. Amazon is a serious company that's about "Getting Work Done", not the very vague "Getting It", which is about the same as "Being In". Seeing that Amazon is a successful dotcom for years, I say they 'Get It'
2. Bloggers want to whine, preferably for money, and think everyone should love them, and be and think the same. You can blog about what you want, just pretend it's the greatest thing in the world. The whole blogosphere is nothing more than a bunch of self-basting ego-fornicators.
Spank me, that was of course Wernher von Braun: "Crash programs fail because they are based on theory that, with nine women pregnant, you can get a baby a month. "
Then again, if you're an employer there's not much difference between an employee watching pr0n and an employee watching nudists. unless you're, say, a travel agency and offer trips to those resorts
yes, and gmail has a builtin jabber client, and Mail.app in Tiger has integration with iChat and that's about it. still very small scale and very proprietary.
but you register at a site, and you get an email confirmation. i bet you have a lot of other applications that send out an email on a certain event.
a lot of those would benefit from IM integration
SPIM is easier filtered than spam, imho, and most IM clients have tight control over buddy lists.
more examples where IM could replace email could easily be found:-)
Is this the first step to a true IM system that is complementary system to email?
If more IM vendors start opening up (Jabber, my personal favorite, has always been open, ofcourse;-) ) more developers will integrate IM into their applications. In a few years we should have one dominant protocol, and from then on IM will finally become as transparant as email is now.
then again i'll be driving with 4 scandily clad girls in my newest lexus besides copacabana beach.
Microsoft originally wanted to relate to the youngsters with this campaign featuring Snoop Dogg where he would pitch their products saying 'Yo, Them Snoop Dogg tracks will Play Fo' Shizzle, Mah Nizzle"
but market research and focus groups watered it down to this
because after all the delays, hype, anticipation... no matter how good the game is, hopes will be higher than it can deliver. And reviewers will say: "Well, it might be the greatest game ever, but it wasn't worth the wait"
Five years to reverse engineer a difficult, obfuscated protocol is quite frankly amazing
Five years of poking a black box with a stick is such an immense waste of time that it's only possible in academic circles, and only applauded by free-hugging hippies that have spent those 5 years playing nethack to kill time, then go off ranting about how great and amazing an accomplishment Samba is.
If they focused their time, energy and skill on something that would integrate seamlessly with windows, unix and others, would be a breeze to set up and have more features, be free, faster and more secure, everybody would've used that, and they would've been done 3 years ago.
1. World Computing had only a Windows Client until today 2. Team Slashdot is the #1 Team -> lotsa computing power 3. Slashdotians are in general Linux zealots.
Conclusion, The few windows users on slashdot that engage in World Computing have some pretty hefty Windows boxen;-)
i like www.3ivx.com as my mpeg4 compliant codec. once you have that installed, it'll play in WMP too works on all platforms, fast, easy, gives good results.

Still, it's a good fantasy
I don't understand why the scientists of today haven't genespliced wings into pigs to celebrate such announcements
Everybody will set it either to 'La cucaracha', 'Shave and a haircut' or 'SOS in Morse'

I'm taking the 50/50 chance here that you are a Simpsons fan:
"There is no emoticon for what i am feeling!"
Why?
...
because after all the delays, hype, anticipation

So, in 2006, Samba is finally able to do what windows was able in 2000?
Way to innovate, OSS community!
(Yes, i know i'm burning karma here. See if i care. you know that i'm right on this)

Chimp mommies probably don't tell their young to 'be a good boy and do everything the kind mister asks you, ok tommy?'

I don't see how this is new. It exists already a long time and it's called .Mac
More likely because most Americans kept calling it 'nucular'
