On my intel (ich9r / q6600 / 4gb) rig, the longest at boot is the BIOS POST screens, followed by the Intel RAID BIOS. the vista boot time (until usability) is very tolerable (30 seconds including account selection screen and password entry). Then again, I seldom run complete boot cycles for Vista as STR sleep is perfectly reliable and wakes the Pc in 2-3 seconds, tops.
I love the smell of an updated Hosts file in the morning. You know, one time we had a website ad-bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink ad. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole website. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
Smaller size ? smaller than CD means no packaging, no physical album art, easier to lose... Doesn't sound like an advantage (consumer side)
Most of us still buy physical medias (aka CDs et al) precisely because you get those things.
This might be the surest way to have even die-hards go all digital download.
This physical media dead horse really is starting to stink.
If you ever let the athletes do what they want, i'm betting on a steep decrease in doping. If you let sponsors and recruiters decide, on the other hand...
free market means one can establish a new business in said market. NOT that established business shouldn't set their own price for the service they are selling.
Go ahead and establish a more efficient service than google's... but wait, what would be your interest in driving prices down, once you'll be the dominant player ?
My feeling is that Downloadable movies will actually HELP bluray adoption. why, you ask ?
Downloadable content will soon reach a point where it will compete with standard DVDs for quality and ease of use... killing the need for the support, and leaving Bluray as the "natural" physical support for movies.
While you are correct about it's unworkability, i can assure you this law is about to pass. The french political class, given its average age bordering on senility, is certainly one of the least tech-friendly, let alone tech-savy, of the western world. Add to this fact that most french politician have many interests in pleasing big media groups (like said FNAC retailers, whose CEO by the way produced the report on p2p on behalf of said government) and you can see we're going faster and faster toward... nowhere.
quote "Uranus doesn't point one pole at the sun year round. It points one pole at the same area in its "sky" year round."
Uranus should never point at any kind of pole. Uranus shouldn't point at the sky, either. It's only asking for troubles for poles, or god, or both.
now mod me down for an easy target
Many people come to envision God as a Big Beard In the Sky, because from their early childhood it's been their representation of supreme authority.
and double so for Dwarves.
"According to a Sunday New York Times article, 6 in 10 Americans are socially forced to pretend to believe in the devil and hell, 7 in 10 are socially forced to pretend to believe in angels, heaven and the existence of miracles and life after death, while 92% are socially forced to pretend to believe in a personal God." There, fixed.
So let me put this straight
The Iphone4 get the best smartphone score ever in consumer Reports testing.
Consumer reports concludes they cannot recommand buying an iPhone 4.
I conclude i cannot recommand Consumer reports.
where to draw the line between humans and other animals.
Realise the truth: there's no line
The problem is not speed or benchmark scores.
The problem is usefulness and usability.
we tend to focus on the former because it is "objective" while the later is highly subjective.
My experience :

YMMV.
Microsoft new experience is a bling improvement to the XBox360 GUI.
Sony's Home is a new GUI for the PS3.
And now for something completely different...

Big Disc soon to be the backronyme to Bluray Discs.

A lock without a key is sure, but useless
A lock with a key is useful, but insecure
