Seriously, why would someone buy one of these? Its not like you are going to be watching video while working out at the gym, jogging, or walking down the street. Thats why the old portable TV Watchman was a failure, and the portable cassette Walkman was a success. You can multitask while listening to your iPod - not while watching a little video screen.
Most companies have cubicles, and the ones that don't have open offices with no walls of any kind. Does this mean they are not forward thinking, successful companies? No, it means they are not wasting a bunch of money on private offices and may actually turn a profit. I've worked places with the fancy offices that "catered" to developers, and I've worked at places with $50 IKEA desks thrown together in the big room. Guess which companies are still in business.
What theatres are you guys going to? "Screaming kids and people throwing popcorn"? I've never really experienced that, unless I was to go to a childrens movie on a Saturday afternoon, and I know better than that (of course, if you have kids, you might not have a choice). I just saw "Flight Plan" today, and not a single person in the theatre screamed, threw popcorn, or even talked on a cell phone. (Ok it wasnt that great a movie - maybe they were all asleep)
ummm - since all the Jedi were to be killed, and Yoda was a Jedi, why WOULDNT he go into exile? He couldnt take on the emporer himself, and most of the other Jedi were dead by that point. Live to fight another day.
The one thing nobody seems to have commented on is this - are the iPod Nanos TOO small? I think the mini was the perfect form factor for taking it to the gym, putting it in your pocket, being able to see the screeen, etc. with it still being fairly robust. For no screen, the iPod Shuffle (I own one of those) is ideal. The nano just seems to be the wrong size for the wrong product - flimsy, less storge than a mini and, to quote that long-ago iPod post "Lame".
Actually, although the number of available songs has decreased (Maybe from 20GB iPod size to 4 GB iPod Mini size) I think the order they are played in is still random.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Nice pics on that site - and it DOES remind one of the iPod (although I highly doubt the iPod designers were even aware of this product). Does make you think though - roughly the same size and shape as and iPod, was available 50 years ago, had batteries that could actually be replaced, and "held" an INFINITE amount of music (aka radio) that was randomly shuffled. Almost seems like the tech back then was beter than the tech now!
I saw the iPod nano at Sharper Image (no, I would never buy anything there - just browsing!) and the screen was clearly all scratched up - and the thing was behind a glass display case! Turned me off to the product then and there.
There was plenty of p2p back in the 70s and 80s - it was called making tapes of your friends LPs, and taping off of the radio. I did it all the time (and still spent plenty of cash actually purchasing music). Same story, different era.
Well for one thing convenience - I don't have to
leave my house to find a CD store (which don't really exist any more anyway, at least around here) and can shop for music at 2 am in my underwear.
Wow, that crew vehicle and lander look familiar. Where have I seen something like that before? Oh yeah - back in 1969! Seriously though, I guess there are only so many simple/cheap solutions to a problem so it is natural that it would look similar - just like modern airplanes dont look that different from ones 40 years ago.
BMW actually makes two adapters; the iPod specific adapater (which has the advantage of actually being able to control the device , change tracks, etc. from your car stereo) and an "aux" adapter that you can plug anything with a headphone jack into. Using the aux adapter, all you can do from your stereo controls is control the volume so it's not that convenient for using around town - but its great for long trips.
What R&D? They are planning to go back to the moon using many pre-existing components, e.g. space shuttle main engines. Sounds like they should have a good head start!
To play games. Its a different type of device altogether. No one goes bike riding with a portable game machine - but they do with an iPod.

They promised us flying cars! Where are the flying cars? Oh wait...
At least thats how I read it. Guess I've been innundated by the news the past couple weeks.

Yes - thanks for Gmail (seriously). But I wish I could apply the concept of folders of files on my hard disk to Gmail, not the other way around.

you mean Crazy Joe Davola.

yep. And to think he started out selling computers out of Georges parents garage!
I didn't realize there WERE 50 science fiction shows. Star Trek, Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica - can't be more than a few more than that,
Seriously though, every new music player that comes out seems to fit this years-ago comment.
What next, a black iPod? Oh wait...
don't worry - posessing a typical geek physique, I don't much like seeing myself in my underwear either!

I remember the Challenger accident, and I can assure you no one said "OMFG" back in 1986.

Huh. First time it took less than 10. Are we that much more stupider? Or just that much more broke?
