It isn't as though it would be idintifying the people, it would just know someone/thing passed there. I don't see any privacy issues with something like an IR beam that logs traffic on the trail.
You mean like any application that touches your mail? Like that nice spam filter?
It isn't as though a person is looking through it. Its just a machine looking through for keywords and puttings ads on the side. It isn't even collecting stats.
1. For some inexplicable reason, the Europeans I've talked to really like Hershey chocolate, which is crazy because its crap compared to most European chocolate I've tried. Guess the grass is always greener.
2. Didn't some guy buy a castle, take it apart and reassemble it here?:)
This is a great idea if it works. But if its all directional, how would you have an access point serving many clients? Unless the access point used (an) omnidirectional antenna(s), there would need to be multitudes of these to track each client.
Most of the benefits of compiling from scrath lie not in speed gains, but in the ability to customize the features available. Some packages allow you to choose gtk or qt, such as lyx or vlc.
"Blackholes.us does not list spammers, spam supporters or vulnerable hosts at the present time. These lists are meant to contain all known networks assigned or allocated to the respective provider or organizations within the respective country. Lists are created for research purposes, primarily, and are made public for any use others see fit."
It seems the purpose of the site is to list the IP ranges associated with various bodies in the event you should wish to block their traffic.
I've tried Rythmbox, and its coming along, unfortunatly the sound quality seemed to be somewhat lower than what I get with xmms. I'd love to see that change though.
I haven't watched TV in about 2 months, It'll be another month before I do again. Don't have the time with school, and while difficult at first, its positivly blissful how little commercial crap I have to deal with.
Right, because you'd have your receptionist install the DAT drive either./p
No. You hand them the drive you assembled, clearly labeled for what time period it is, show them the usb port, or heck, get an extension cord, run it to the front and label it, and you say "plug this into here, click this." how s that harder than swapping DAT tapes?
Seriously though. This is quite a good thing. I'm really really interested in getting windows under linux at native speeds, however, or even at a hit if that would guarantee a windows crash won't take linux with it. VMWare is good, but painfully slow for running photoshop, and forget 3D applications. I'm perfectly happy to run windows for these things (I'd prefer native linux applications, but hey) if the all windows can bring down is itself. I'd like to see some of the work done here applied to doing this, and from the looks of the article, some of the concepts may apply.

IPsec? but Windows has such lovely 40 bit PPTP!

When are we going to get options to order real pizza?
...or you just do it yourself via ssh.
...or you set up cron jobs to automatically update packages every night.
Imagine the effect on the porn industry.
Some of the things it can calculate are really crazy.
It surely does. Just call 911 and your coordinates will be sent to them.

This is really getting annoying. Places like Design Technica show up on slashdot repeatedly, none the worse for wear. Whats the point?
I especially like how you repeatedly say "Hi their" in each post. Kindly stop spamming every article with this crap.
So tell me, do you have a script that automatically makes useless mirrors? How come we never see mirrors of things that actually get brought down?
I can easily browse the web or watch movies on my computer while upgrading the system.
I'd burn it, personally.
Make an example.
The states.
Or rather, thats who is supposed to... and the people are supposed to control the states.
What happens now is something like, the state takes our money, the federal government takes more, and then proceeds to bribe the states with it.
This is what I've gathered, though I make no claim on being an expert. I'd like to hear if anyone thinks thats (in)accurate.
Did you bother taking a look at the side-by-side comparisons? I mean, all they did was take the exact original image and plaster text over it.

Careful! She's WATCHING YOU! hehehehehe :)
you have it all wrong. Its more like:
(geek tries to impress prospective female)
geek: "Look at..."
(girl walks off)Right, because you'd have your receptionist install the DAT drive either. /p
