Processing is a great way to learn how to code. It is java IDE, but designed for graphically oriented people who are learning how to program. The gui is very simple and to compile a display is very easy. Check it out, it's designed for people to learn how to program with.
Just would like to point out that the C&C generals games are considered to be among the best of the franchise, according to C&C fansites and hardcore C&C players, not just the gaming press. I also personally thought it was an excellent game, very well balanced and fun multiplayer.
My friend runs his satellite TV connection through his computer and uses BeyondTV 3 to stream TV over networks. You can record and playback shows, watch live tv, change the channel from anywhere that has internet. It's awesome, just goes to show how much Tivo and SBC are behind in the game.
CNN has reported on their website about the initial warning that pegged the threat on the Torino scale at 2. But they haven't updated it yet for the increased threat. Probably they're waiting for the next round of observations before making any doomsday type claims and looking silly when nothing happens.
Nice try but did you stop to think about who would actually buy the thing if it cost $1000? Raising prices on a crappy product only goes so far.
The point here is that Nintendo is stopping these retailers from 'legally' selling these things in malls and stores. You're never going to stop people from selling them on the street, but all the same it's worthwhile from Nintendo's perspective.
By keeping it simple, I don't think they necessarily meant keeping the platform archaic. I think they meant that they should use a tested and reliable self-balancing platform that is 'off the shelf' such as the Segway, as opposed to developing their own.
He seems to have a good vision of the future. I read his book "The Age of Spiritual Machines" and it's clear he's not a 'nut' he's a smart and succesfull programmer and businessman. I think he has a lot more vision about the direction things are going in then most people. Many of his previous predictions have come true.
My only beef with him is that his timeline is pretty radical. His whole premise is based on his 'Law of Accelerating Returns' which basically states that the pace of technological growth is increasing exponentially and we're at the point where the pace of growth is about to shoot straight up. The reason I think his timeline for all these predictions is too optimistic is because of considerations outside of his realm of thinking. Things like politics, buearocracy and social concerns can really slow down the adoption of new technology. What good is the latest nerve regeneration treatment when stem cells are illegal in the US. What good is the latest disease fighting nano-bots when their FDA approval is pending. What good is the latest wearable computer when all your friends will make fun of you when you wear it. These are the types of issues he never really deals with.
On a rear projection HDTV I can watch HDTV programming from satellite no problem. Watching the Olympics in HDTV was amazing, really stunning detail and quality. The only problem for me is lack of content which is growing. This headline is rather alarmist, which is the norm for/.
Uses about 9MB of ram for me idling. Not very memory intensive at all. Also, you can play the games offline you do NOT have to authenticate with Steam to play offline. Originally this was not the case but they changed it not too long ago.
Let me just say that I think your anecdotal evidence that "countless gamers burn their lives away in the belief that "going pro" is just around the corner." is off the mark.
As someone who is familiar with the Counter-Strike 'pro' scene I can say that the vast majority of people play for the fun of competition and are well aware that only the top few can make a living and that their best bet is to stay in school. People don't drop school to play video games, they play these games for entertainment, and if they want to spend some of their money on attending a tournament where there is a chance to win some money so be it. (it should be noted that WCG pays for all accomodations to the finals for all players) Among the top teams, perhaps they do put in more time then is healthy, but again I can assure you that they are all well aware that this is not a strong career move, it's just plain old fun and if people are paying them to do it, all the better.
So... if the glove don't fit, you must acquit?
It's more likely to keep the cost of websites high and in the process piss off a lot of developers.

Not a fan of the browsers, are you Trebek?

lmao that was great.
No because the gas mileage per passenger is lower on the airbus "SUV".
Yea because keyboard and mouse is the epitome of looking cool...
Also the fact that it's minus 36 degrees celsius outside where I live. (Montreal)
When a device like this comes along it will prompt hardware makers to integrate wifi into portable HD's.
Until phones and ipod style mp3 players converged. I'm still waiting for the model that includes the kitchen sink.

Still this could help in the long run if the banks lose by serving as an example that big business can get royally fucked by patent whorders.

Someone should quantify the effects of a quality Slashvertisement like this. How much do these companies rake in?
Just take a look at this

I'm not suggesting it will be stopped. I'm just saying that his timeline is too optimistic.
