It has happened to me, a few times. I'm 22 and I often skateboard around the city at night. In fact I often skate the same places, and although I do get kicked off of private property I'm allowed to skate on the streets and it has happened to me that I end up talking to the same cops more than once, who in turn get to know me. Maybe everyone's mentality in the US is that every cop is just another faceless government entity. Whereas once you get to know those cops you'll realize that we're all in the same community, and if you can't talk to each other, yes even cops, without erecting personal barriers then maybe there's something wrong with your community. It's nice to be able to trust your local cops enough to talk to them like normal human beings. I'm sure all the soldiers in Iraq are being told to try and get to know the people, just as cops in North America should too.
I live in Montreal, a city of 3+ million and around 7 years ago the city started a community police program where instead of large centralized police stations, they would have smaller community stations. I've never been arrested but I have had my ID checked before, I've been stopped a number of times, mostly because of skateboarding (it used to be much worse) but the fact is, if you hold that against those cops what's going to change? Nothing, animosity between the cops and citizens grows. If you treat them like regular people, chances are they'll do the same to you. Patriot act civil rights abuse notwithstanding.
As much as I can sympathize with how you were inconvenienced, if it was nothing more then 10 minutes of your time I would consider that a job well done by the cops. The fact of the matter is, young males commit most crimes, don't take it personally. And although in some regards it's troubling to see the steps the US government is taking in terms of law enforcement, stopping people who look suspicious (even if they're innocent) late at night to ask them what they're doing is not something I consider a breach of privacy or any other such nonsense.
It really is quite amazing how much diversity there is on a planet that is usually considered barren and lifeless. Although the viking, pathfinder and spirit rover landing areas all had some similar features, this landing spot seems very different. Very exciting stuff.
While it's probably true that these scams don't net a large amount of victims, the American public most definately is the target. When scams are tailored to look like they're from American federal agencies I think it becomes quite clear who these scammers are targeting.
As much as I applaud Nintendo for being innovative and taking a risk, I can't help but feel that this move will alienate 3rd party developers. On the other hand, Nintendo's first party games are usually very good and without a credible competitor for the moment in the handheld department Nintendo could pull this off. Regardless it's a risky move.
Your *virtual* collection if DVD's sounds very intriguing. If you don't mind, my associates and I would like to inspect your collection first hand. Please reply with your coordinates. Thanks a bunch!
The Counter-Strike finals at the CPL Europe a couple of weeks ago saw 10,000 people spectating over the internet using HLTV, I was among them. Likewise the final matches of all the major tournaments (WCG, CPL, CXG) see similar numbers of online spectators. In fact ALL of these tournaments have trouble keeping up with the demand for HLTV slots for spectating. I'm sure soon we'll be seeing numbers going on 15,000 to 20,000.
And as others have pointed out, places like South Korea have 3+ TV stations dedicated to video games and spectating. Whether or not e-sports will ever get to the level of NBA, NHL, NFL remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure it's growing fast.
The fact that ATI and Valve are both dual promoting the 9800/9900 and HL2 is a rather disturbing precedent that's being made here. The fact that the Nvidia HL2 benchmarks are so low compared to other DX9 benchmarks suggests that ATI and Valve are doing a little more together then cross-promoting. And although Nvidia is hardly a pillar for honest and open benchmarking ethics, I fear for the day when games are exclusive to video cards just like consoles.
Very funny:D

They can see what songs you're sharing the same way anyone else can; posing as a user of the p2p system. People freely allow others to view what's in their shared folders. Why would it be illegal for representatives from the RIAA to view them just like any other user can?
The Doom 3 trailer was pretty impressive, graphics-wise. However, the Half-Life 2 trailer displayed more astounding physics and AI. Both engines, years in the making, and built from the ground up are sure to compete for consumer and developer dollars. It'll be interesting to see which will be the ultimate victor.

Back when IGN wasn't filled to the brim with adverts and flash pop-overs I found their reviews to be especially good and for the most part without bias. I especially like how (and they still do this) two reviewers will review every game to get a second opinion.
These days however, I'm just fed up with that site and stick to peer reviews online and from friends.

Or you could give them the Slashdot version of that same list:

- The Bottom Line
Peter Jackson should just say screw it, and wear sweat pants to go along with the rest of his grooming.

And not the other way around?
Embrio will be shite if their servers are any indication.
At 35MPH it looks like holding on would the biggest issue.

How exactly does the fact that someone is gay make it harder or easier to recognize them?

The more they argue the more free p2p downloads become entrenched in society, thus leaving them with less money.
