  1. Easy project? on Indian Military Organization To Develop Its Own OS · · Score: 1

If that doesn't work, eliminate the more expensive one. This Grassley guy just want something to cry about. Maybe 'cos no one wants to do anything in Iowa.

I saw a lot of comments which say that foreign governments spend on education. I am from India and currently in a masters program in the United States. The Indian government does NOT sponsor any part of your foreign education. The truth of the matter is that the US government sponsors a lot of us. All my friends in engineering programs have scholarships which are full tuition waivers.

As a thumb of rule most engineering students get scholarships. I am in a business program where scholarships are less and we pay way more than American in state students. But its students like me (no scholarship) that the university makes money from. If they put a cap on student visas as some dumb wits have suggested, the American government will be losing millions of dollars a year. Go figure.

In my opinion I dont think there is any country or a group of people that cannot do a certian job with the proper training and sufficient time.So if work is being outsourced to India or anywhere else for that matter, it can only be because of the cost.
Anyone who thinks that people from one country can code better than people from another country are absolutely wrong and biased in their opinions.Yes, one group might take longer to adapt to the conditions or require more time to train but thats about it.I know its tough for anyone who loses his job because someone else will do it cheaper but thats the way all business's work! Don't they?

Most of the comments Ive read here are based more on the anger arising out of outsourcing than anything else.A lot of people will just insist that the outsourced service sucks or sosmething else just because of the fact that it was outsourced. I think we need to look at the bigger picture here and understand that any nation that can undercut you in pricing is going to take away your business, be it India,China or Tanzania! Moreover most corporations are no longer just american companies. They are global entities which just a big office in america. So its really upto the corporation to decide where they need to operate from , to help them grow the most. Most of you guys need to take it easy and rethink before you coment on outsourcing again. ;) PS : Maybe its easier for me to say this cos i havent lost my job due to outsourcing, in fact i got iut because of outsourcing.

Its just a few jobs lost by outsourcing and not that the whole economy is gonna come down because these jobs were outsourced to India or wherever.

Its high time people stop whining about outsourcing because it CANNOT be stopped.Big Corporations ( who also put in money into the political campaigns) are going to save money because they get almost the same quality(maybe not always) for much cheaper. The only way for America to stop outsourcing is to beat the price which is kind of impossible. And that is what trade is all about, isn't it?
Why don't people who constantly cry about outsourcing read a book about macro economics or something and come to terms with the whole situation?

  22. Definitely a deserving #1 on PCWorld Dubs Firefox Best Product of 2005 · · Score: 3, Interesting

I think FF definitely deserves the #1 slot.A lot of people would argue that IE runs better or Opera is a better browser.Yes , Firefox crashes.Yes, it has bugs.Yes, it sometimes uses huge amounts of memory.BUT so does every other peice of software ever written. It just doesnt have to do with the firefox itself but also the user environment like the operating system, the kind of hardware, buggy systems themselves etc. These are not ALWAYS the reasons for crashes and slowdowns but most of the time they are.

And I think what most people miss while comparing Firefox to Opera or IE is that Firefox is a much younger project than the others.Opera has been around for a number of years and has only just started to add better features.IE has always been around since there have been webbrowsers..So if you equate the amount of time these products have been in the market and the innovation/features they have been able to produce...Firefox wins hands down.Given a little time more, I dont think there will be any comparison to it.
All this without considering the financial aspects of software development(IE & Opera are commericial FOR PROFIT projects).
