    ..instead of people asking or commenting about the actual launch itself, most people are bothered about why India is not feeding its hungry people and launching satellites in space.
    Doesnt it feel a lil daft asking these questions over & over again?!Is a developing country only expected to feed it hungry nad look after the poverty problem.I really fail to understand that point of view.

    China and India are one of the oldest enemies, both insecure about the others rising global presence.This is just a statement by the visiting chinese PM to try and be friendly to the indian government.
    I live in india and i have yet to see india and china collaberate on anything except avoiding war on the borders.
    Its just one of those those kinda statements like, Bush telling the Jap pm.."Lets go grab some sushi". But who know maybe one day, it comes true :-)

    We have a small website that we run for an irc channel.Just a couple of us maintain it and even then it sometimes becomes a pain in the ass to make small decisions and put something new up and things like that. I cant imagine how a website/project like apache is handled smoothly with soooo many people, all volunteers who have day jobs.Its really tough to even remove 2 hours a day from your schedule to dedicate to a project.Amazing. :)

    Most of the bigger companies have research centers based in India.And HUGE onnes.Most of them are based inthe south, in or around Bangalore.Theres GE,IBM,HP,Microsoft etc..
    Not only does the American company benefit from these R&D centers due to the cheap & skilled labour(does research count as labour?) but so does India as it takes almost as much from the R & D as does USA.

    Roger that, how can anyone say prices in the office arena have'nt dropped when one of the biggest MS Office competitors is F.R.E.E!
    OppenOffice is also a very nice to use office tool, even if you are very used to ms office.I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to migraate from ms office to OpenOffice.

    i ran ms anti spyware on 2.4ghz p4,256mb ram and it had trouble handling it.Besides the download itself is 6mb compared to the near 2-3mb of adware n spybot.
    If you run it on a badly infected slow pc, wonder what will happen to the poor machine.It will die of the anti spyware instead of the spyware. :-p

    ..even though India has a huge software industry(IT is one of the few industries thriving right now), most of the software is produced for oversees companies which is the software exports industry.Software patents do not mostly apply to this genre of IT.
    The local software industry is too small to care for patents which will be applicable locally.Thats the reason why no one really cares about patents.

    What most of the posts essentially say is :
    1. India is re-inventing the wheel with manned space flights.
    2. India should put in money into infrastructure,starving people,poverty..
    3. India is stealing american jobs.
    Not 1 post(maybe 1) tries state reasons as to WHY India must be investing in Space programs at all?? Do you guys actually think that no one in the current Indian Govt or opposition must have thought that they'd rather invest in reducing poverty etc instead of Space programs?!.I am not jusifying their expenditure but just saying that there will be a good reason behind it.Besides there are specific norms as to what a developing nation needs to be.
    Also there are certain things that need to be re-invented.If there was 1 mission to Mars, do you think no one else would attempt to send a probe into MARS?
    And when it comes to stealing jobs, India is not stealing jobs but America is offering them jobs.If you call that stealing, ok. :-)
    Just my 2(3) cents.

    Yup, A lot of the cars here in India do it too.The natural gas converter kits are very popular especially with taxi drivers.The reduction in performance is negated by the cost reduction so the guys are pretty happy.
    And of course its less pollution. :-)

    I was using FF 0.9.3 for a few months till the 1.0PR came out.The 0.9.x had never crashed on me.I ran one desktop with 0.9.x and the other with 1.0PR.
    The 0.9 was as smooth as ever with no functionality missing, but the the 1.0PR had at least one crash a day.I still have'nt upgraded the FF on my laptop and its still running 0.9.3 as stable as it gets.

    ..but all other solar/electric/natural fuel powered vehicles crawl slower than snails.Usually never more than 80-100kmph.
    For these cars to be be commercially viable for production, the speed has to be near 200 kmph.Thats more than enough for most people.I think speed is one of the reasons why these cars don't sell.

    I use v0.9.3 of firefox on one machine and the 1.0rc on my other machine.both the machines have exactly the same config, the are both hp ,same models bought on the same day.But the one with 0.9.3 performs really well.The new version keeps hanging n crashing after a few hours of use n abuse.
    have you guys experience a decrease in speed of the later version?

    If you don't mind spending a little money, RAdmin is really good.Its light weight, works perfect over slow connections and works beautifully over lans or wans.One of our systems is completely dependent upon RAdmin becaue our gateway is in America and we are in India.
    We use RAdmin to connect to it and run it as a service on the Win2k Server.Without it we'd be really dead.So far it performed much better than any other VNC, we've tried WinVNC and UltraVNC.

    I've never, in any vague reference too heard anything of CherryOS.Don't even know if the company has any credibility or if the software has been tested on any hardware.
    You guys heard of the cherry before??This is either totally groundbreaking or aa dud hoax. :-)

    I completely agree with that.I mean what would happen if you have critical data on the web server if you are running an ecomm businness.Without backups/redundant servers you are RUINED.
    Every minute of downtime is one step deeper into the shitpot.You are going to have absolutely no credibility or trust left in the market if you cannot bring your servers up in reasonable time.
    Another thing to be thought about is collateral damage, what happens to other people hosting stuff on those servers.The govt should have no right to keep that data.I don't think any kind of compensation can get your business goodwill back.(Not that Govt's are known for compensations!!).Stupid mops.

    1. They are not too popular in their main business(internet access) 2. They buy netscape and screw it up.From being the best it goes to worst. 3. They buy Winamp(Nullsoft) and screw it completely.The worst version of winamp came after AOL bought it(v3 i think).
    What is it?? Do these guys hate profits or they tryin to see how much they can mess things up! . Weird.
    Now they wanna release a browser for people who already hate them.They've completely lost it and have no clue to where they've headed.

    they are just going to add to the piracy with rulings and suits like this.A lot of people who used to buy the games are now gonna stop buying them WHICH doesnt neccesarily mean stop playing them.I would just go and download a copy from the net or buy a cheap pirated version.
    A lot of people care gonna take this adly and it might surge up the piracy for Blizzard.Great games though, Warcraft,Starcraft n Diablo esp.

    I use a 2800+ on my laptop and its a beauty.Its cheap and works like a beast.I have 512 mb RAM and the system can run any app you throw at it(almost).Games run good ( on my ATI RAdeon 320M), though i have'nt tried Doom3.
    If your going for a laptop go for a 2800+ processor, its cheap and good peformance.

    I think we ate up enough bandwidth that the store usually consumed in a month.
    Thats losses for a months worth of nerdyware.At least make sure your site has enough bandwidth before posting on slashdot OR use one of those caching things :-p
