Why is it that outsourcing is only thought of in terms of India?
If indians do such a crappy job, why are all the biggest firms outsourcing their businesses there, maybe to lose a few million dollars for the heck of it?
Im not defending India or outsourcing here but there must be something worthwhile that all companies are outsourcing to developing countries.Maybe India IS better than most other countries in this field.
We again come down to what America wans or the way the economy of he world works.Businness goes the way its most profitable. If outsourcing is profitable , companies WILL outsource irrespective of anything.Companies sponsor politicians so theres no way its going anywhere.
I agree with the general thought that all package developers should do the same as Fyodor and refuse SCO the right to distribute their packages or software as part of a SCO distribution.
Till now there's just been wide spread noise about SCO but nobody's really taken any big steps outside the courtroom. This really has potential to take this game into a totally different league as it lets a lot of people do something about this mess.
As a company the Big Blue does pretty well for itself, has numerous patents but what is its position in the general tech scene? Do most people see IBM as evil or good?
Of course they definitely aint in the MS (bad) league by my standards, they've done more good than bad for the technology as far as i know.Ok so they wanna make a few bucks on the way, thats not all that bad is it? I'd say angel(maybe i just like the color blue.)
I fail to understand why the government has to butt into a private acquisition. If it was a govt firm being overshadowed or intimidated into selling out , it would have made sense.
If a company can afford to buy out another company there seems to be no logical reasoning for the govt to step into the matter. This means that with anti trust laws the govt can curb the growth of any company be it MS or Oracle or any power hungry firm which beats the whole idea of freedom of uhmm..whatever.
Besides Oracle does have the right to buy out anyone as long as they offer the right amount of $$!
My shell a/c got shut due to this raid as my shell hosting company had hosted their servers at CIT(Foonet). One fine day it goes *poof* and i realise that theres no shell company and no servers.
How much time does it take to copy all the data from these servers to analyse it or as someone said, just keep the frigging hard disks! Hehe apparently these FBI blokes still are'nt that tech savvy.Hope they sent the cyber crime dept of the FBI to check things and not the local FBI desk cleaners.
This step would prove very good for the average home user than the more literate computer user. Most people still dont have AV scanners and even if they do they hardly update it.This would be nice for that section of people as it would be easy to update ur Anti Virus from your start menu or say your IE.
A half decent AV is still better than no AV.Also this could prove to be more effective(if the AV itself isnt a bugggy software which needs security patches every month) than other AV scanners because MS has an upperhand in know the windows internals.
Would'nt accuracy differ from user to user? For a user who receive almost no spam and likes to keep his mail clean wouldnt the anti-spam learn to delete stuff that is just being cleaned and is not spam?
And also i'll be the one to judge its accuracy as ONLY I know what my spam is.
If you remember there was a Virus "chernobyl' that destroyed a computer's BIOS besides cleaning the Harddisk. After that outbreak, there was a virus protection embedded on the motherboard.(eg. Trend)Would this protection compare to something like that?
More importantly would it be really that efficient so as to block all kinds of buffer overflows?
They'll definitely punish anyone who's done a search for the source as according to them its against the law.
With the recent 'Mike Rowe-soft' deal, they probably won't sue anyone but they'll give the guy a free CD of Windows XP 'Special Edition'.Now thats a good punishment eh?
It would be interesting to see who's the first linux user they sue. Most of the biggest users of linux are much bigger than SCO themselves leaving aside a few million single users who downloaded a copy n installed it on their home desktops or whatever.Sco vs Google would be real nice.
haha, why do you people think i remotely care if any guys are getting calls even if they are on the dnc list? I take care of systems so my job is just get the work done.Outsourcing, telemarketing etc, no problem as long as i get a few solaris and HP unix servers to play with with a lil money.no sympathy required.;-)
I work for an outsourced Telemarketing company and i can tell you the DNC lists are NO fun at all to manage!
And now that its got wide coverage , everyone we call wants to be or has applied to be on the FTC's list. All this is besides the numerous state lists that are maintained by all the states.
Its happening more often than ever, you just can understand what they are trying to say in any of the GPL,GNU,open source license any more. The whole idea of sharing code and everyone free to use it has been lost somewhere.I remember a postabout a FreeBSD founding member quitting for the exact same reason.
Theres more emphasis on who gets credit and who's code it is than the actual code itself. And it creates more problems like this when theres no real alternative to the code being discussed.Even though i think XFree86 is great! but they could do without the mess and help it spread more.
the real question here is how much has a distro(or even linux as a whole) penetrated the overall desktop market? We always knew Apache + RH was a good combo.Even if it was'nt web server admins have enough knowhow to install, configure and run most distro's.But are normal desktop users moving to linux? If yes whats the distro they find easy to migrate to, from their Windows boxes? That should something interesting to find out.
Everything about Doctors in India is as good as any doctor anywhere else or maybe better but theres a slight problem like someone said in this postt. Its sanitation n hygiene.
The standard of hygiene is very different from hospital to hospital.Somethings can really shake you.I have experienced this myself.I was admitted to a sub standard hospital but only because the orthopaedic surgeon there was the one of the best in bombay. And you def want a better Doc than a better hospital when you are going in for a dozen surgeries(like i did) and a small mistake can leave you handicapped for life.
But things are improving and most big hospitals here are world standard.

Theatres being strict is in fact the best solution.Infact most places here in India are starting up a no cell phone policy like restaurants, clubs, theatres etc.

I don't think it would make a difference if it would be used in certain situations.
For eg. The other day i was watching a movie with a frd in the theatre. This guy behind me was talking so loud on his cellphone that i could barely hear the movie. After repeated attempts of telling him to shut up by everyone around he finally quit talking after 45 minutes. The only thing i wanted to do at that time was take his fone and shove it up his a$$!! Wouldnt a jammer do good to the general public in an instance like that?
Theres a linux version called Trinux. Its a security concsious distro that boots from a single floppy and you'd need another floppy if you need more than the basic security tools for linux.Def worth a checkout.
Its great that UT has released a demo for linux but what are the other options for gamers who want to run a *nix desktop? do most fps's have a linux/unix release ? can you guys give me some sites for unix games?
thnx.
with me being in another country, would i be able to use the [OPEN] source code for my government space agency? Would the US govt permit that, nasa being a govt agency.
They would probably only release code which would not benefint most people don't you think?;-)
Maybe this is not the appropriate topic to ask this, but seeing all the hype about fedora, i was wondering how fedora fared as a desktop OS as compared to FreeBSD which i run as an alternate desktop OS.
Just wondering if its too much of a development or testing OS as compared to RedHat?would it be worth it to move over to Fedora?Thnx.
I still have loser friends that still think the Internet is one BIG porn movie.Their sole purpose of logging on is to get porn.I bet there are a whole lot of these guys out there.

have you heard of anyone downloading buggy code intentionally?? The leaked source code is pretty much safe.Relax MS.
