Girlfriend and I share an apartment, 2 bedrooms, 1 as an office.. generally we just IM each other random links, but if it's anything else, i'll go through the motions of actually turning around in my chair to talk to her...
As far as families go, I can't imagine while growing up not being yelled at by my parents to tell me to "Get your ass out here, what in God's name did you do this time!?!?"
I'm generally a fan of MAC address restrictions.. when I lived in an apartment in Berkeley, if I was in the living room, I would be connected to my own wireless router, but in my bedroom I got someone else's.. Oh well, I just used their bandwidth instead, they had the better link to me, so their loss.. But when I would check the router's logs to see connected users, there were FAR too many people who weren't my roommates trying to connect.. poor them, no free access from me (at that time, I'm reconsidering my position on that as I get trafic shaping improved on my linux box)
I seem to be having this problem a good deal today, not completely clarifying my points..
Instead, let me restate as "Current standards of 802.11x wireless internet should not be used, as they are too new, too fraught with holes and problems, etc"
My apologies... instead, I should have said that "while I lived in Japan for 2 and a half years, every driving range I ever went to, day or night was completely full, and every golf course I ever inquired about had a waiting list of several months at least", thereby making me believe that "there are a good many citizens of Japan who enjoy the game of golf" and perhaps "they play video-game golf in order to get at least some sort of golf-experience that they otherwise could not afford the time or money to have".
And while I know that RPG games sell VERY well in Japan, I do not believe that everyone there wishes to go out with a sword on the street, slaying first rats and small animals and then moving on to larger things, ever-searching for that eventual girl to rescue.
not every simple mis-speaking/mis-typing is racist, and I hate it when it is viewed as such.
For someone with a sig line of "I hate liberals, if you are a liberal do not reply" your PC flag flies very quickly, it seems
I have great doubts that say, the government will ever allow sensitive or classified information to go on a wireless link, even if it is "secured".. there's just too much freedom in the air between origin and destination.
Fiber should continue to be used for any info that could be considered sensitive at all.. but then again, who am i kidding.. businesses just want things to be easy, not safe
But I guess it makes sense.. they all love the sport, but so little space to play it.. years-long waiting lists makes PS2 golf look much better.
And speaking of the PS2, 18 games are PS2, 7 GBA and 5 GC.. wow.. that's some PS2 lovin'...
I bet executives at Rockstar and Take Two Interactive go home at night and roll naked in piles of cash screaming "Thank you for all the free advertising, Haitian Videogame Activists! It's going to be a Happy New Year after all!"
there's always some corporate executives rolling naked in cash somewhere, isn't there? those silly guys... i'd spend the money and buy hookers to roll naked over.. sheesh
That said, whilst reading the article, I was mulling over how to go about building one myself, and what chance I'd have of convincing my girlfriend that while yes, we do have 3 PCs between 3 of us, another one *would* be a good idea...
I convinced mine by doing it.. once she could easily access all of my mp3s, movies, tv shows, etc on the file server w/out having to make sure my computer was on, not doing anything too terribly important, etc, she saw that it was not such a bad thing... just make it quiet and stick it in a corner or behind something where she won't really see it, keep the cables neat and tidy, and it's generally okay...
except for the fact that it's NOT a file server, but only a backup system.. you can't easily browse the thing, only using the software can you backup files, etc..
reading the article... a truly lost art
there's also the "bad" element... go to see 1 movie, alone, and it's bad and you blow $10. buy 1 game and it's not worth your time or money, that's $50 blown.. you can see 5 bad movies for the same as 1 bad game
but if it's a choice between BF1942 and a rousing game of Codename Eagle (DICE's first game) then Codename all the way! And I know at least 10 other people who believe it, too.. and umm.. well.. that's about the whole Codename community..
not if you own the boards.. which ya can often buy really, really cheaply, but don't feel like switching them out over and over again when ya wanna play games..
Finally, keep this in mind: most serious gamers who are so concerned with fps that 60 is not adequate, also turn all the extras down or off in their graphics setups. I'm willing to bet they didn't do that in the benchmark test. you can often double your fps by sacrificing unnecessary detail.
this is very true.. i know what i was playing UT competitively, the only graphical nicety i allowed myself was running at 800x600.. besides that, everything was down as low as possible.. as long as i could tell the difference between people, walls, edges, and flags, everything was gravy...
You said the magic word: Marijuana is a weed. Just drop a couple seeds in some dirt and it's likely to grow. With full-spectrum lights it grows in your closet. Wait a few months, pluck some buds, and you're ready to smoke. It's just plain fucking easy.
True, it grows really easily... but then of course, there's always quality levels.. it's not TOO hard to make bathtub gin, but i know i'd rather have a nice bombay or tanqueray ten instead:)
No, I wish it were.. FFX has been a great selling game for a long time, since it came out.. it's sold far more than many (most?) "greatest hits", but it was still selling well at the 40-50$ price it was at, so there was no reason to drop it.. i guess sales slowed down a bit
well, when another newspaper delivers the high-quality, award-winning articles that the NYT does, and gives them away for free without registration, then we can talk about it...
i always thought it was "unless you are poor, you have nothing to fear from the government".. isn't that how it all works? or am i missing something...

Gas Goes Solid

· Score: 3, Interesting
with regards to the transportation, there are a couple of big bonuses, really
the first is safety.. if a truck full of methane hydrates wrecks, so what, you've got these not-very-harmful rocks slowly melting and releasing methane into the air.. not a big deal..
on the other hand, a tank full of pure, liquid methane would tend to ignite w/ the sparks of any sort of tank cracking.. not good
also, it probably is cheaper to use regular, everyday refrigerated trucks and train boxes rather than getting a tanker truck specially made.. the safety requirements, pressure requirements, etc on one of those are HUGE
Yesterday's Mirra link for overpriced "solution looking for a problem"

They should be considered weapons of mass destruction
But damn if getting hit in the head by a hardback book doesn't hurt like the dickens..

WTF is an AOL keyword!?!? I'm confused now...
That thing, in this case, is available for the price of parking in your neighborhood chinatown. As many have mentioned.
Which is great.. if you have a neighborhood Chinatown. Down here in Florida.. not so much....

40$ also buys a couple of lap dances.. no calories gained, but quite a few burned through "exercise"
