Uh, yeah.
If I'm not mistaken, one of the original goals of XML was to make data simply interchangeable. Doesn't making it binary totally demolish that purpose?
Silly me, there I go talking sense again....
Actually I think he's diverging a bit. I used to think he's gradually turning in to Mr. Burns. But with this statment, I'm leaning more towards uber eccentric Howard Hughes; sans the charm and personability.
Hmmn.
Vegas = Nuclear bomb having nuts.
Boulder = Too smart goody-goodies.
Vegas = Criminals & psycopaths.
Boulder = Snow.
Vegas it is!
(Stephen King's "The Stand" reference for those confused by this)
This again goes to the point made in the article that corporations bear at leaast some responsibility in this problem. Don't just gripe about it here, tell your legal department about what you saw. Tell the people in your company who are responsible for hiring that document shredding company. Tell that accounting firm that this company is not doing the job that they are hired to do. Speak up man! It may well have been your SSN, home addy, and other personal info in that bin.
Doing right for yourself is good, but take it a step better and help your company be a better corporate citizen. Tell everyone who will listen that they need to re-evaluate who they have shredding their docs!
Please someone out there help me restore my faith in humanity and tell me that there are some GOOD e-voting solutions out there. It seems like every week we have another story about the horrendous problems with yet another solution. Does anyone know of any e-voting systems that work and are secure? So far it sounds like every one out there in use was architected and written as part of a 6th grade programming project. I know there has to be some smart people out there putting out solid systems, where are they? Please tell me!
Now just get my wireless phone to pick up signal where I need it (like at HOME maybe???) and this will be a great thing. Can we now get the lawmakers to force wireless carriers to push their signal in the areas they promise they cover and in reality don't? Far more useful if you ask me....
or is this a useless innovation for 99% of laptop users out there? In my experience, I've seen laptops beaten, melted, drop-kicked, hosed down, and generally misused. And every time the hard drive has been none the worse for wear. What ALWAYS gives up the ghost is the screen. Without fail.It either cracks, fails to work entirely or fades.
Can we get IBM to put a little R&D towards making those a little heartier first?
Oh yah the Challenger. My Dad's been a Cat mechanic for years now and has been around to see some of the wicked new Ag and Off-highway tech Cat's been working on. The Challenger got a roll out akin to Win 98 when it was launched. As far as tractors go it's pretty amazing. Wait'll you see some of the stuff they're working on! But right now they're already shipping GPS controlled, navigated, monitored equipment for mining and other extreme environments. This isn't all that new.
Some of the stuff in pipe is pretty cool. Remember that trick forklift equipment mover Ripley used in Aliens? Not too far off from reality.
Oh and if you happen to live anywhere in the vicinity of Peoria or Aurora, Ill Cat needs tech people who don't suck! Check 'em out and send 'em your CV. Tired of writing code for lame applications? How 'bout getting to work on the code that controls a 100 ton off highway truck? Far cooler if you ask me.
Just about everything in the Cat product lines will eventually be software dependant, if it isn't already. Check 'em out!
Actually, any company can get the same goo-ification service on site. My Dad's company has been using this service for years now. They drive up to your office with a big truck with all the equipment for doing this and shred and mush all the materials right there in the parking lot. The entire process is witnessed by someone in the company and they sign off on the completed goo. I've taken to shredding all my sensitive docs myself then smuggling the shredded paper to my company's same serviced bins which are locked themselves.
Far better than creating environmental toxic smoke and ash by burning it. And no worries about dumpster divers!
Nah, I think the Sosumi sound came about in part after Apple's legal tussles with Apple Records, the Beatles old label.
Check here and grep for sosumi.
Horribly off topic, but I had to correct this....
Back to the discussion at hand.
Take the Zire 71, give us a WiFi card that works with it, dump the USB for Bluetooth sync built in and you've got me buying. I really like the Zire - metal case is solid, I won't buy a PDA now without it. I'm sold on it since my Palm V which I still use. Keep the internal built in rechargeable battery. Give me these options on that Zire model at the same price point and I'll replace my V.
90% of the way there.
*I like the Zaurus but I'm not looking for a laptop replacement in my PDA. Its overkill for my needs. Plus its syncing options are a kludge at best. PalmOS does exactly what I need it to and it has since I bought a USR PalmPilot years back.

"...or their network admin staff are a bunch of incompetents."
Well, yeah. They're running SCO aren't they?

...no one is going to notice. Netscape has sucked so bad for so long that I know I've been totally burned by it. I know I'm not alone.
Harrison Ford was on Conan last week and said he hasn't even seen a script yet for #4. The release time frame is definitely tentative.
Oops- my bad, not at rackspace, just on Linux
SCO's website on Linux at Rackspace? Guess they needed to move it after the DoS recently. Odd choice of platform I have to say.

Sesame Street! Should be of some entertainment to the 5-8 year olds at least.
