If you die from 1 all-nighter then you probably died from something else (very poor health). I think most of science and engineering have been built on all-nighters so sorry, not going to stop.
Thats the problem though. You can get a GPS chip (minimal programming, no maps) for a few bucks now. So the work is split between the satellites and the mapping.
Would something like $1 buck be enough? (~20% tax on the gps chip) Probably not. What about a 1% tax on all GPS devices. So that would be a ~5c for a chip, $1.50 for an inexpensive device all the way to ~$7 for a top of the line system.
The biggest issue though would be fleets and how it affects their pricing, I have 0 idea of any impact (if any) something like this would have on them.
Other funding for this would obviuosly then come from both the NASA, FFA and Military budgets. To be honest though I'm not sure if the overhead of creating a separate tax would be worth it. But if it were then somewhere between 5 and 8 dollars is what I would be willing to pay, hypothetically of course.
First of all this is despicable. However if it was "a source of community developed terrains, skins, and mods" then why was this the only place it was stored? Didn't they have a tgz ftp or something?!
I already pay for GPS in my taxes. Yes people who don't pay taxes and people who don't pay taxes to the US government still get to use it. But seeing as how easy it is to make a GPS device now, I doubt that non-US citizens would pay an extra tax for it/shrug.
Its been a long time since I've looked into Galileo but I would have to say that the positioning is done virtually the same as GPS. Though I think galileo probably has more orders of ephemeris data.
The basics are the satellite gives you enough info for you to figure out where it is, then you find the distance from you to the satellite and triangulate your position.
I was using imply as a non-mathematical/logic term and in fact in that sense I would say that imply is more clear than suggest.
It gets pretty pedantic though, the wiki for correlation does not imply causation points out that it can "not imply" while still "hinting" which to me seems like a misuse of english. But thats how it goes I guess.
Its because of very poor design. Its the same reason that slow loading adverts slow down a site. One small aspect of a site should not affect its performance the way it does today.
Yep. I actually live within a mile of my work. But due to ridiculous designs I have to jump RR tracks to get there by walking, or walk twice the distance along a busy expressway.
The reason is because you don't just take one trip from the second stage. It takes one trip from the earth to the moon, but after that you can do as many trips from there as your vehicle is capable of.
Also the earth's gravity is far greater than the moon's...
And its the truth when its spammed to the parents? Sorry but no matter how you pretty this up, this is harassment, and it was started by very insensitive people.
Just because we have freedom of speech does not mean we have to tolerate people who abuse it. You can own a gun, but it doesn't mean you can shoot it off wherever you want. You have freedom of speech but it doesn't mean you can yell in my face with no repercussions.
Post a picture of anybody with a good story to go with it and within a week you will have their name, their dogs name and who they bought their house from.
Its abosolutely worth it. You are looking at pure mineral gains from the moon itself when a lot of the real gains could come from asteroids or further celestial bodies. 4 billion dollars is absolutely nothing at the moment so it would be a perfect time to invest in creating a base of operations on the moon.
I haven't, and am not prepared to do the calculations but i would guess that fuel costs alone would cover any operation we make to set of a secondary stage (the first being earth) on the moon to recover all costs within 50 years.
In addition we wouldn't use the shuttle for mining operation, well at least no earth -> wherever. We could transport the mining "ships" in bulk with cheap unmanned rockets and the crew in bulk with more expensive and safe rockets. The crew would then take the mining ships to wherever and gather the minerals, bring them to another launch point on the moon and send them unmanned back to earth.
Is there such a thing as a "mac user" and a "windows user" anymore?
Anyway, you "windows users" get a good laugh off, meanwhile us in the 21st century will continue to use our computers whether they have macos, windows or linux.
Wow you have a lot of hatred for people making more money than you. It can't be that they actually have worked harder, its some flaw in the system that they exploited to make tons of money while holding you down.
I also enjoyed this gem "And make no mistake, those are the only qualifications that 90% of business managers have today."
And if we could sleep half our brain at a time (like sea mammals) then that would be obvious too.
Done it, usually on the drive to work. For me it actually catches up with me later in the day, in the morning I'm still very alert.
But yes it would be a pretty cool mythbusters to see how it affects you throughout the entire next day.

If anything I would have expected "its about time" posts, seeing as Europe has been using the US stuff for free.

Actually correlation does imply causation. Its further study that can show if there is causation.
The fact that correlation != causation doesn't mean statements are wrong, just that they are generally incomplete.
Ice is negative calories.

"I could care less" is Irony (a very good example of it too).

Cool, so it seems like if you are going to commit treason, that is the place to do it.
*to know that
Not everyone is a CEO. W/e apparently it is flamebait know that.
Yeah, those greedy bastards.
It's spelled "whoosh"
